I liked Jacob. I liked his romance too.

I liked the pet talk between Shepard and him, made it feel very realistic and flowing, and I especially liked the casual-way they went about it, making it feel even more my speed. I don't just wear my heart on my sleeve, making the Garrus and Jacob romances very fitting, more-so than the true-love approach they took with Kaiden in the original.

To be honest, I'd prefer a casual fling at first that could perhaps grow into a romance, because realistically that's how it happens to begin with.

I just wish he would say less 'We got a good thing going on here Shepard'

Jacob, to me, isn't boring at all; he's just not horribly mental or tied up into some trist of galatic politics like Tali. Personally I think it doesn't matter who the human is, be it Ashley, Kaiden, Jacob, Zaeed, and probably Kasumi coming soon... Everyone will always think human squaddies in ME are 'safe' and 'boring' Only the Females get different perspectives because most of the people who post here are boys, so we get either. "She's HIDEOUS lawl'" Or.. "She's so hawt" Because obviously if you're evidently flawed, hated, or extremely gorgeous it doesn't matter what the character's backstory is.

Personally, if I were in Shepard's situation, I'd pick Jacob over most any other crew member on that ship, he follows orders, doesn't talk back, and isn't psychopath; not to mention his resume isn't just heresay. His feats are noteworthy. Not many fit that bill outside of Garrus, Jacob, Thane, and Samara.

This. I didn't mind Kaiden when I played through as FemShep in ME1. But I hated Carth. What a tool

There's just not much to his character. He's like Kaidan or Ashley from ME1. Very meh.

I like Jacob, he's the Paragon to Miranda's Renegade.  I like his line when he gives Shepard a bro hug.

Pretty much this, my Shepard is black as well so it was just, well it was a true bro moment.

He is exceptionally boring. I do dislike the fact that he has to drop his two cents in pretty much every time I bring someone new aboard. That gets annoying.

I actually enjoyed the dropping of the two cents, it gave me a handle on where my Cerberus folks where coming from.

Jacob is okay, he gets a little on my nerves when he greets new recruits. Maybe he is just too bland, I don't know. It could be the VA. I felt like there could be more emotion, more outrage in his personal quest, but they all can't be Tali's.

I like Jacob's loyalty quest, it's pretty straight forward but there is a ton of emotion there and the aftermath with TIM was great as well.

I think the big thing that bugged me about it was in the beginning he makes a big point of saying he isn't going to second guess my decisions and then he spends a good deal of time doing just that. Considering their respective positions in Cerberus, it would have made more sense to me if Miranda did more of the criticizing. But I totally understand where you're coming from. Most of my friends really like Jacob, so I can see both sides of the issue. That's one of the great things about the game, we can tailor our own experiences. :)

Edit: Spelling fix.

This... he's sane which cant be said for some of your squadmates and he seems like a nice dude. I dont think he'll make the cut for ME3 but I wouldn't mind him coming back as a squadmate.

Jacob has nothing going for him at all. It really is a shame with how much potential was wasted on what could've been a fairly interesting character. If Bioware capitalized on Jacob's Alliance/Cerberus morality complex, it would've made both him and Shephard's ties to the faction much more compelling.

As it stands right now, even his dad has more of an interesting persona.

I hate Zaeed because there is no depth to his character and nothing likable about him.

I don't hate Jacob, but I find his character very bland. Probably him telling me that he doesn't want to "force" our talks didn't help, though. He seems "all business" to me, except for when you do your little fist-bump half-hug thing after you run out of dialog options, which felt more forced than anything before with him. I'd rather he pull a Garrus and just tell me he's busy.

I did like Kaiden a lot more, but I'm not sure why. I guess I found his personal history more interesting.

He's cool. Seems like a good friend character, like Garrus and Alenko. I like how he dealt with his father.

I like the character alot. But yeah he did not come along much on my first playthrough. Didn't like his combat options and his dialogue was good on the ship I felt but lacking during missions. I ended up romancing Garrus, since I felt like it would make sense since they were side by side through all of ME1 or I probably would have had my femshep go for him. What wierds me out now though is I'm playing thru with my maleshep and all the lines they stick you with are the same to have convo with him and it comes off as if maleshep is flirting which is fine if thats your thing. It's not mine, and it's just awkward. Other than that bit of weirdness I think he's a great addition to the ME universe, just not near the top of the heap for me. Maybe he makes a gallant sacrifice in 3 and becomes remembered more fondly and as a big deal, we have to wait and see.

i like jacob and i would hate for him to die off in ME3 because he is the least favorite :(

I like Jacob, he's a down-right nice guy. I think he and Kaidan would probably be best buds, given the chance. He doesn't even seem to dislike aliens that much, to say he's part of Cerberus.

The only thing I don't like is the female-Shepard's forced flirtation with him. Jesus, you're forced to all but sit on the edge of the table and say "come get it."

He's dull, his opinions on every new squadmate are either bland or stupid (like when you rescue Legion from the IFF mission and Jacob advises you to "space it"), most of his conversation is standoffish if not downright rude, and he is by far the weakest squad member in combat.

Did I miss anything?

Don't hate him. But I'm not a fan. To me, he comes off as a nice guy who's either lying to himself about who he works for, or is simply a world-class idiot.

And his whole introduction with Tali just made me want to punch him. (Of course, after hearing what Cerberus did to the Quarians, and not being given an option to lock up every Cerberus operative near me....that annoyed me too :P )

So no, I don't hate him. Just find him boring and annoying.

Again don't dislike Jacob just not one of my faves, more of a bud than romance but as my FemShep seems to turn into a total slapper every time she talks to him I avoid talking to him.

Zaeed is easily my least fave and I'm not big on crazy so Jack loses my vote too.

for my view I'll be able to put it pretty bluntly:

Jacob is a sweet, well rounded, likable, every day sorta guy. and there in I think is most of the problem. he is such a wonderful every man, that he can't stand out too well compared to other characters that will inspire obsessive love, or deep hatred.
