Really, Jack is psychotic, Grunt is blood hungry, Tali's a racist, Zaeed is a grumpy old man, Miranda and Samara are cold blooded, Garrus and Mordin have no morals, Kasumi is a kleptomaniac, Thane is pretty much emo, and Legion isn't a living being. What is Jacob? a normal guy.

Yup, probably, and egh.. she's an pally.. not really cold-blooded. She has yet to kill someone for an in-valid reason, jack is more likely to be cold-blooded.

Garrus has plenty of morals, most of it depends on what edge you told him to go in ME1. Mordin is an respectiable scientist, sure he made the genophage but that is exausting all other possible ideas.

yeah and if you had cancer and you were dying in 6 months and had to deal with that fact you be pretty emo too. but yeah totally agree.

depends upon your definition of living but he's basically an schizeophatic considering he has 1,183 people in him. =P

As several other people said, I didn't like him that much because of the way femShep automatically wants to get in the sack with him the moment you begin your first conversation with him. What the heck!? After my first couple of attempts at a normal, professional conversation I gave up (outside of getting his loyalty mission squared away).

I realize troll, but would people make this conclusion if Jacob and Verner's models were swapped? (IE, Jacob became a blonde white guy.)

I'm not a frigging Troll so get of your high horse, and get a SOH.
Oh and if Verneer had the same dialouge and demenour the character would still be as boring as bat### and people would still continue to make fun of him.

I didn't USE him because anything Jacob can do, Grunt, Jack or anyone with a shotgun can do it better.

Personality wise, he's all right in my opinion.

 I like Jacob, bland yes I agree, but I think for the male human on your squad he is much more interesting than Kaidan in ME1.  When I met Jacob I thought "Wow he's quite different than most Cerberus operatives" and I actually trust the guy.  However when going up to him just to chat between missions...I can't stand how my Shep is all of a sudden flirty with him.  Yes he's nice to you when you run into him the very first time but that's not how I'd react to anyone when I want to talk with them and I barely know anything about them.  Overall I do like his character and attitude about things, he seems like a pretty cool guy...he's just surrounded by all these other personalities that kind of drown his out.

You need characters like Jacob to play against the anti-hero's with "deep seeded issues" that we typically get with, well, the rest of the crew. I do think some players go overboard with the "hate" of certain characters. I never got the dislike of Carth, Kaiden or Alistar. I think the point of these characters is that if every character was Wolverine or House, it would stretch believability a bit.

I like Jacob a lot, not as much as the others, but he's in charge of your armoury, so he must be doing something right.

People tend to dislike him because in-game, bluntly, he sucks. Everything he can do, there's a character who can do it better (Jack for Guns and Powers, Grunt for Guns, etc), and WHY BioWare decided to give him Pistols instead of Rifles makes no sense considering he's an Ex-Soldier and uses an assault rifle in Galaxy (and if you don't get Zaeed, Garrus or Grunt, you don't have an assault rifle for a while), and he's a bit one-note in my opinion.

Still, he did take a level or two in badass in ME3, and I like how they made it so he's the only LI who cheats on you.

Personally, I think it's that when they made Mass Effect 2, that's when Bioware and EA decided that the series needed to be amped up; the stakes raised, the pace heightened, and its characters made larger than life. It seems the only way to keep a team-oriented gameplay style intact with Shepard at the helm, who, at the end of the first ME, seemed larger than life. His entourage needed to match pace. Let's face facts, at the end of the day, Jacob seems more a character in line with the first ME; if he were a playable character in the first game, it would make more sense.

Besides that, have you used him in combat? Early on, the only distinction he has is that he can use an assault rifle, a trait severely lacking in the early teams (until you pick up Zaeed and Garrus). After his loyalty mission, he becomes completely useless, and I can sum up why in four words: "PUTTIN' UP MY BARRIER!"

Yes you are, and that's ALL you're doing. At least fire your gun a little.

Truth be known,. ME 3, I do suspect, is a fever dream of Shepard during Arrival made by the Reapers but he broke free due to that he found out it had bad writing.

But... apparently it's just that quality that turns people off because he doesn't have any major quirk to make him stand out.
