Two words: "The priiiiiiize".

He's still less annoying than that insufferable big noter Miranda.

Miranda's annoying traits are largely a mask for her hidden insecurities and doubts, which actually makes her a great character, no?

YMMV. For me it's just unfortunate that the only Aussie in the game is a big noter, and if that's only to cover up the fact that she's really a sook that's even worse. Good character perhaps, but still one that'd be a pain in the arse to deal with in RL.

He's annoying and arrogant and really just has way too much attitude. And I have to say I feel like he's a clone of Udina in some ways. Not as bad, but when you bring back recruits and he's there (not sure if it's miranda for a male shep since I play fem shep) he lays a lot of judgment on them and gets very surly if he doesn't like them. Well, take it up with the Illusive man because he's the one who sent me this crew. I also have to wonder if there's a bit of racism at BW given that Anderson is the only African American that's presented in a good light. Udina is a lunatic hothead and now jacob is a tool. And his father? Let's not even go there. That seals the deal for me on BWs leaning toward some kind of derogatory stereotype. If they toned him down so he doesn't get so full of attitude, he would have been a better character, but now, he falls in line with Udina way too much for me. I've considered not doing his loyalty mission this run just because I don't need his assets later, small as they are.

I'm killing him this run. No loyalty mission for him. His attitude just grates me. The two things that sealed his death were telling Tali to introduce herself to the AI - totally toolish and what an IDIOT for doing that. Then how he treats Thane. He gets all uppity about Thane being an assassin but Thane is the one I take to the IFF and damn he's good there. I take jacob nowhere but the first few where I have no other teammates and have to take him and then his loyalty mission. Now, I can deal with him all but his loyalty mission. His attitude is horrid. I get he's upset but if anyone needs to get shot out an airlock it's him. So death for him. No loyalty mission. Trading in ME3 has given me the freedom to just get rid of this idiot. YAY!

I loved Jacob. In every way possible. Until ME3. Then... not so much. Ahem.

Simple: Because out of the entire cast, he is the most "normal." You can't say the same for the other 11 characters in that squad, or the rest of the important crew, or Shepard. Jacob is the odd man out, the normal one and that made him the least interesting.

Jacob's a good character in one of those I can empathize with of not knowing and searching for his life's direction and looking for it anywhere and trying to be best person he can be as he does it... Though he's not that colorful given how Mass Effect's characters usually are however... And its nice to see that the only two characters of African descent in the series are good-natured people with good morals and character...

I didn't like that EVERY character had a petty problem with the other in ME2... Jacob bickering with Thane and Tali was silly, especially since all three are good people at their core...

His character would have been much more tolerable if they simply allowed us to tell him to shut up...or something along those lines when he questions some of the members you bring in during briefings.

After ME3,
I think the real question is who the hell in their right minds would still love Jacob?

I never romanced him.  I just hated his attitude toward new recruits (some of them). He's either a brown-nose or a total jerk. To thane he was  horrid. He tells tali to make sure she introduces herself to their AI edi (WTH?). He puts on the charm for samara. The only one he's most normal and most like a well trained crew who witholds bias toward is mordin and garrus. But how he handles Thane, Samara, and Tali especially makes me want to throw him out of an airlock. Total tool. But this is as a femshep. I don't know if playing a male shep changes it to having Miranda there for all the intro in the confrence room. I suppose it could since at the beginning of ME1 male shep had Ash in the sick bay and fem shep had kaidan.

Nope, it's always Jacob.

I just dislike him because he so bland and token. He's clearly there as a 'nice guy' to make us think Cerberus aren't so bad. Yet they tried so hard not to give him any notable character flaws that he ends up being completely wooden. Which is annoying on a ship full of interesting characters.

I personally think he brings up valid points with every character especially his point about Thane being hard to trust given him being an Assassin though Thane pretty much kills his idea with a well said retort and you do tell him to relax, but mentioning the ship has an AI to Tali and telling her to "introduce herself" to it was kinda boneheaded...

I dont despise any of the characters... My least favorite is Jack, but mainly but because she's on another planet to the others...

I seem to remember him having respect for Samara's talent. How is that a bad thing?

I guess you and I interpreted his mannerisms in a different way...

It was like he was had this deep liking for them or deep disliking. He was never balanced in his approach. Samara was almost like some kind of adoration of her. Or that's how it came across to me. Yet his rudeness toward Thane was really unwaranted given that you would want a master assassin on a team to take out a collector base. So basically, he lacked any ability to be professional about his dealing with them. Tali he showed some, but then turned into an idiot with the AI comment. I guess because Thane proved to have honor in the end of getting him on that mission, and theoretically, based on ME1 at least (conversations characters have) you get the idea that all are there on all missions despite you only take and see two characters... I expected more professionalism and less attitude from him. He has far too much attitude. Over the top even. It's annoying. Yet toward samara he's practically kissing her feet. No balance. How do you like a character that has zero balance and so much attitude?

I don't hate him, he's just pretty meh compared to the rest of the squaddies

What I dislike about him is the way Bioware seemed to be pushing him as the 'canon' romance for FemShep with the way she acted around him, having her sound seductive and sultry when she asked him about himself (eh BW, I justed wanted to ask him about himself, no need for FShep to get all flirty with him, save that for romance chats if the player CHOOSES to romance him).
Seemed a bit sexual harrassmenty to me

He's corny. He's like a loyal puppy dog following you around, waiting for you to toss him a bone. He has very little personality. "The priiiize." classic.
