I've never really found much of a use for the AP ammo. Incinerate and/or a few well-placed Sniper shots take out ammo lickidy split.

When playing as an infiltrator you probably shouldn't be worrying about any shield boosting abilities since the sniper (when use correctly) puts you out of the line of fire for most of the time. Miscellaneous biotic/tech abilities (Slam, Incendiary grenade, Reave) don't have the range you need when playing with snipers so they too should be avoided.
That leaves you with ammo types and since you won't be using many tech abilities to bypass shields and barriers Shredder and AP ammo aren't good choices.
That leaves you with Warp Ammo. It's powerful, goes great with one-off weapons like the sniper rifle, and is pretty.

I think Reave should be a good bonus ability.
The infiltrator has good armor killing ability with incinerate and shield removal with disruptor ammo.
But has nothing for barriers, also reave returns health on top of it and stun some enemies.
I know about ammo powers like AP and Warp.
But even if you get somewhat less damage by using squad AP with Garrus I think that is the way to go for me.
That way I can sort of get two bonus abilities, if I always use Garrus as one of the squad members.
The really good thing is, that since you can now respec you talent points and retrain the bonus abilities you can really play around and try things out.
Can't wait to do some sniping and a cloaking with one hit kills.
Currently doing Sentinel.
Btw, is is just me or does warp ammo actually work on shields too?
When I first equipped warp ammo it looked like the shields on enemies went down a lot quicker than without any ammo power?
Perhaps it is just the damage bonus that makes it look that way.

on higher difficulties, you'll need one of the defensive powers. Reave still works wonders on higher difficulties

Range is not a problem, anything you can zoom in on with a sniper rifle, you can use your power through quickkeys. Sniper rifle zooms your power, teammate's power and of course the bullet itself. a good combo would be zoom, use Miranda's overload to bring down shields, take your shot.

Hmmm...AP Ammo does bonus damage against both Armor AND Health, 70% over Warp Ammo's 50%, but it does effect Barriers. Still, the Mantis or Widow on a Headshot rips through Shields/Barriers like tissue paper, and the AP Ammo helps take out those ridiculously annoying Scions.Space Shot wrote...
Warp Amno.

I honestly haven't used Reave, but that's because I'm usually spamming Incinerate, and I'm never exposed long enough for Reave to be that useful. But I'll take your word for it.
