I have two things for us all to ponder regarding Mass Effect 3. Both questions are open to debate, and of course, I will share my views on each of them.

Should there be NEW romance options in ME3?
This is something I have been thinking about alot. Keep in mind BioWare have specifically stated this will be a trilogy, and low and behold... we are now awaiting the final installment. So surely at this point in Shepards story... he/she would be tying up loose ends rather than creating new distractions. It makes sense that the surviving love interest from ME1 (whether that be Kaidan, Ashley or Liara) would figure more into the third installment, and it will be interesting to see how they approach any relationships from the second game (considering any number of characters could be dead, and also the fact you can cheat on your partner from the first game).

Who will be the main party in ME3?
Another almost impossible question to really answer, but it is definately worthy of debate. Again, to me, it wouldn't make alot of sense for Shepard to make a squad comprising of new characters. At this point you'd expect him/her to stick with people he/she can trust. But there's also a (very rare) possibility that everyone but Liara and Ashley/Kaidan are still alive at this point. I'm sure Shepard will return in the third game, but who will BioWare bring along with him/her? It just seems too far-fetched to think that BioWare would really have the time and resources to include a fully flexible squad depending on who lived and who died in previous games.

I want to be clear too: for these questions I am not asking what your preferred squad/romance
would be, I'm asking what you think the squad/romance WILL be.

Well, we know Ash/Kaidan and Liara will be back as squadmates. I think the more popular squadmates from ME2 have a surefire chance of returning. In my opinion I think these will return, almost guaranteed:

Mordin

Miranda

Tali

Garrus

Legion

Grunt

The others have a 50/50 chance I think.

1. new romances would be way too cumbersome at this point; we need to develop the current ones, not tack on new ones no one wants. bioware is all geared up to bring our original LIs to fruition in 3, its hard enough to do the same with the new ones who all couldve died.

2. again, it would be a major story killer to have another new team; 15+ main teammates is way more than we shouldve ever had, adding more just makes all your characters worthless as individuals and kills the narrative when pretty much the only constant is shepard. bioware has written themselves into a corner with this one, some players can have 15 squaddies alive for the 3rd, some will have 2; i really hope they handle it properly.

There has to be at least one new romance option (some people RP their Shepard as a galactic james bond...)

I want to keep mostly ME1 and 2 squadmates, with a smattering of new faces to 'cover the bases'.

I don't think there should be a new romance character. Let the romance/drama take place between people you've already romanced (Miranda and Ashley for me).

I also don't think we need any new squad members. We have very complex, interesting teammates on the Normandy already, we don't need more and I really don't want to spend more time finding them.

I really hope that in ME3 you get a chance to reconnect with your love interest from the first game.  I'd be really sad if they just go away forever and Shepard totally forgets about em.  Also, it'd be fun to see Ashley and Miranda both fighting over you. Image IPB

As for returning party members i think Tali and Legion are a must since the geth are sure to play an integral part in the story.  Maybe have one or two new faces to replace Grunt and Thane but otherwise have same party as in ME2.

Unless, of course, someone let a substantial amount of teammates die on the suicide mission.

Then, they are up ****s creek and need all the help they can get, lol.

Talking about ME2 squadmates: basically everyone who survived has a chance of reappearance I guess ;). Depending on how loyal they were and other "conflicts" that might have occurred with them. (Thinking about Samara and playing renegade or Jack who's mentally rather instable and does what she wants, Thane who's about to die, etc.)

Liara is the only romance I want, unless they have some sort of civilian I can hook up with in a normal place like Earth, human, of course.

And the only party members I want are Tali, Garrus, Liara and Wrex.

lol there is absolutley no way bioware will fully write, voice and animate 10 characters of which a huge number of combinations could have been killed off. keep dreaming

I have said this before, I would like to see some of the ME2 faces come back (in more than a cameo role), but I am not holding my breath. They would either need to override player choices or pursue another resurrection scenario, and both don't sit well with me.

If they really invest in character development and team access for Ash/Kaidan/Wrex (possible ME1 fatalities) + ME2 team (all prone to fatality), I will be pleasantly surprised. Liara is the only one that can play a major role in ME3 without the need for a resurrection project or player choice override. I don't really think anyone is guaranteed more than a cameo at this point.

Romance options are really something I don't put much thought into, they add to the story but I am happy to work with whatever BW throws my way, as long as I have a choice in the matter.

Permutations abound. I don't think they can release this game in a year. Too much shtuff. And possibilities. Unless they get lazy and everyone magically comes back to life.

1) No new romances please.  Finish developing what we already have.

2)

Liara/Ash/Kaiden

Wrex

Garrus

Tali

Thane

Legion

Mordin

Jack

Bioware will most likely give us the best of both worlds.

there will be some new characters, i'm almost certain. also, a lot of people act as if Ash/Kaidan/Liara are locks for ME3 squaddies. Don't get me wrong: I want them back as badly as anyone out there, but until Bioware releases a recruitment trailer I'm not going to get my hopes up.

In any case, a mix seems most appropriate. At least 1 new romance for each gender and a squad that is both old and new. But again, I dont have a clue, and I doubt anyone else really does either.

On second thought i think they should stick with the party members in ME2 plus Ash/Kaiden and Liara.

Ashley, Kaiden, and Liara are all about as interesting as belly button lint.

Keep some of the ME2 squadies and add 3 or 4 new ones

youre right. they wont. But they might for a few, such as miranda, jacob, garrus and tali. The others will (unfortunately) like receive the same treatment in ME3 as Ash/Kaidan did in ME2: cameos. *shudder*

alas, thane, we parted too soon...

I could work with that.

Even if you let everyone (save shepard) die, you still have Alliance person who didnt die and Liara. That makes 3 people needed for a squad. Lock and Load!

Sadly this could be the reality of the situation.

Of the new characters, I hope they at least bring Legion and Miranda back. Specifically Legion.

Garrus and Tali will no doubt be back.

1) "Should" there be more romance options? I don't think so because I've played the first 2 games and think there're already plenty of options. My guess is that they'd at least add one new option though for folks that are starting with a clean slate Shepard.

2) Very very tough call, are there any of the ME2 characters that can't die if you succeed in the suicide mission (are Garrus, Miranda, and Jacob the only ones that can lead the 2nd team successfully and can they die another way?). My guess is Liara will be a given since she's definitely still alive. I would assume they would at least add at least some new squadmates (though obviously nothing on the scale of ME2).

lol i think people on this forum cant quite grasp the fact that a lot of gamers who played this will have a few squadmembers who died, and not just 2 certain ones like me1, any number of squadmates can die, and that means they wont be back for the sequel if included in me3. the idea of just using the squadmates from me2 is retarded beause youll have a huge amount of people who will have large amounts of squadmates unavailable for their playthrough in me3
