I still haven't finished DAO, while I really loved ME2. I prefer ME2, but DAO is clearly the superior game. But DAO is a shade of what it could have been if they had made it PC only.

They are both fantastic. ME 1 and 2 are great, Dragon Age is a different game though, a bit more thoughtful maybe? I mean one is a quasi shooter. I can't think of a single encounter in ME 1 or 2 that requires as much thought or strategy as many of the fights in Dragon Age. I do believe that Dragon Age would have been better PC only, but we have easy access to mods to make up for many of DoA's shortcomings.

I miss Jade Empire though :)

Bioware make great games, that you prefer one series over the other only shows your preference, both series have tons of fans, and are fun in slightly different ways. Dragon Age has better sex scenes, especially with a certain mod heh

They're both very good games that are essentially of different genres that play nothing alike (classical tactical based RPG vs. Shooter/RPG hybrid). Saying one is flat out better than the other is just showing genre preference more than anything.

For what it's worth, I played both games for two weeks straight with every spare hour I had (2 playthroughs for Dragon Age, 2 and a half for Mass Effect 2). I don't think it's possible for me to choose between the two. I think I had more fun with Mass Effect 2 while I was playing it, but I'm pretty sure I'll get more play time out of Dragon Age.

Baldur's Gate 2 = Dragon Age = Mass Effect  = KOTOR > Mass Effect 2 > Jade Empire

I'm not going to argue ME2 vs. DA:O because I dont think they are the same type of game. I am shocked that anyone would prefer ME1 to ME2. I actually am going back and playing ME1 again just to have another character to import and, after playing ME2, it is almost painful. ME2 is just so much more polished its almost embarrasing.

Considering how many corners have been cut with ME2, "polished" isn't exactly a definition I'd use...

Mass Effect 2. Dragon Age is in every way more generic, although still very good.

I'd liked ME 2 better than DA, mostly because of this:

While playing DA nothing really surprised me, not the story (all major plot points were made clear from the beginning), not the characters (maybe with the exception of Morrigan and Shale) and not the surroundings.

All seemed to be known, familiar, even dull sometimes. Maybe I read too many fantasy novels, maybe I played too many RPGs or maybe my standards are too high, I don't know.

Mass Effect 2 on the other side seemed to have more fantasy in it and I got carried away sometimes.

Dragon Age never accomplished that.

From my POV:

DA > ME2: story, character interactions, replayability

ME2 > DA: graphics and presentation, connection with my character, VO for the PC, music, pacing

If DA and ME2 had a child it would be amazing.

Well, so far I've played through DAO and halfway through ME2, and I have to say, DAO totally kicks MA2's butt. (Though I do love MA2. Especially Jack, who is freaking insane and cool.) I also think DAO does something very well that many other RPGs that let you create your own character neglect to do. It really allows the character you create to be as fleshed out as any of your other party members instead of making it so your character is just some lifeless cardboard person watching other people interact. I didn't feel so much that I was playing through as a spectator as I felt that I was watching my character's story. He even has a personality! (The voice options helped heavily with that. <3 cocky voice option.) DAO made me care about my character, and I can't wait to import him into the expansion coming out.

Seriously??? As I said I played thru ME2 and now am back playing ME1 so I can carry over my character on my next playthrough. ME1 just isnt on the same level.

one thing that isn't really polished is the graphics glitch, mainly the weapons behind your back and character's eyelids

This is how i see both franchises.

 1. Dragon Age - Is you more RPG content containing game, it reminds me of how ME 1 was minus the shooting and the whole space exploration thing. DA is where you can really customize you character, their clother/armor, and of course weapons they use. One of the Devs wrote that with individual character modeling there are limitations to what you can do as far as choices of armor etc, I would have to loose that ability in DA.

 2. Mass Effect - Mass Effect started out as a nice blend of RPG/Shooter you had really nice customizable character options within the first instalment of the game I personally ( opinion inserted ) enjoyed that aspect to the game very much. Mass Effect 2 came out a very polished game but with some of that polish we lost our ability ( those of us who like to have control over armor/weapons etc or just have the choice of it) to customize our characters. The game went in more of a shooter direction with a hell of a story line setting up the third installment of the franchise.

Both games have diffrent aspects that are awesome for their genre and others that are lacking for people who wanted something a little more, but like anything these two franchise's will be refined even more in the next installment  we get, hopefully Bioware will listen to what players on both  sides want and find a nice medium. One thing to remember is noone will ever get what they want in a game.

For me the perfect game would be a Mixture of the openess of Oblivion with the graphics and story telling abilities of Mass Effect / Dragon Age. But agian I realize I will never get what I want fully and just learn to enjoy what I have.

Both are very good games in their own way. Yes, DA:O has far more 'rpg' in it and I do wish ME2 retained a bit more that it had in the first game but I have enjoyed both for different reasons.

Only criticism I have is ME2 has gone a bit overboard with the 'streamlining'. I'm hoping BW give us a nice mix between ME1-2 in the last instalment. Dragon Age on the other I feel needs to be a bit more open-ended. So yeah, neither are perfect but I feel I got my moneys worth from both anyway.

DA:O was heads and tails above ME2, its not even close

As a shooter ME2 is better but if you like character development, interaction, emotional connections to story and characters (you know all the things that make RPGs great) then DA:O is the game for you.

ME1 still my all time favorite game at 9.5 score
DA:O my #2 at a 9.0 score
ME2 comes in well down the list at 7.1 score

ME2 has a good story but thats all it is, a good story. Since you dont really effect it in any way till the final scene you basically just following a linear path from start to finish doing what someone else wanted you to do, when they wanted you to do it, and how they wanted you to do it. ME2 has zero immersion for anyone that values character development and interaction with in a story.

Put it this way
ME2 is a great story, id definately rent the movie and watch it and enjoy it
DA:O is the better RPG if you looking for long term entertainment with replayability.

This.
