I downloaded and completed RTO earlier and a while later I got chatting with Alistair by the campfire when he started getting melancholy about Duncan saying that he missed him and wishes he had a momento of his or something to remember him by ( paraphrasing ). I couldn't help but think " well, DUH !! you have his sword strapped to your side, will THAT do for starters " ?? lol !!
Bit of a plot **** up spotted

That convo is from the original game. And it's tied to something else of Duncan's you can give him. But yeah, that convo gets a little screwed up if you give him the sword.
Of course, if you don't have the DLC, it still makes perfect sense.

Keep in mind that it was this way before RtO was released. As a straight-up addon, I doubt the developers would take the time to alter the core game's details to account for such matters. Besides, Duncan's Shield (the intended gift) is a Gift item that, after presentation, becomes a usable item. It would be massively frustrating for players to have to go through that process to get Duncan's weapons, especially post-Landsmeet if Loghain joins you and Alistair leaves, which would incapacitate this process.

Very true ! It's just a character flaw of mine I guess, I'm a bit of a nit-picking fault finder ( which is quite ironic considering how many of my own I have lol ) I do it with films as well, drives my wife mad when we go to the cinema. I went to see "Sixth sense " 3 times just to try and pick holes in the the whole " Bruce Willis was a ghost all along " thing..................Oh crap !!....was that a spoiler ?? LOL

That would explain how he survived all the gunfire in "Die Hard", I guess...
