She doesn't trust your alien squadmates, (at least initially)
And her reason for not trusting aliens in command is because she believes if a decision comes down to saving themselves or humans they will automatically pick themselves, because this is her logic.

It is perfectly valid reason for distrust since it's reasonable expectation -- it's how the self-preservation instinct works after all, it makes one look first after survival of their own kind. You only need to look at fate of the Krogans for the example of it.

Being an alliance soldier in her blood would imply she has a deep love of humanity.....isnt that was cerberus is too? Plus wasnt that **** a xenophobe? Cerberus is perfect for her...

There is a massive list of reasons why Ash is not a xenophobe. Simply one is cautious of aliens and making sure humanity does not become reliant on outsiders. Desiring independence is not racism.

Plus, she can work with Captain Kirrahe on Virmire, and she compliments there skill, and she outright calls the Human Extremist group Terra Firma as a group of xenophobic "jackals" who have replaced the originally noble aims of the party with anti-alien paranoia.

I can understand Kaiden and Ashley being upset.

They thought you were dead for 2 years. Suddenly you come back and you are working for a known terrorist group. Would it really have made sense for them to suddenly rejoin you without a second thought?

Um. Yes? Like every squad mate you have says, they're working for Shepard. Not Cerberus. Tali and Garrus were no less willing then Ashley/Kaidan. Except those two has a pole up their asses and refused to listen to reason. If you bring Garrus along, even he get's pissed off.

Garrusleans more towards the renegade side in the sequel (something I really dislike), so it makes sense for him to giv eCerberus on a chance.

Tali on the other hand.......why did she join me again? She was very vocal about her distrust of Cerberus. More so than any other squadmate. Does she really have that much blind faith in Shepard, even when you're working with Cerberus? I mean, look at what happended to Veetor.

Though maybe she does give an explanation if you talk to her more. To be honest I haven't really talked to Tali in the sequel yet.

Your loss. Tali is there following Shepard, not helping Cerberus. Offers Shepard grenade for Cerberus destruction.

I know that. It's just that I don't understand why Tali trusts Shepard almost immedeatly. You'd think someone would be skeptical of a person who shows up with two Cerberus employees and then drags off one of their friends for interrogation, regardless of what their relationship with them is.

Tali trusts Shepard. Fully. No question. Captain during pilgrimage, helped even. Has strong feelings for him. Still don't understand some of it, though. Taking Veetor acceptance little exteme.

Plus, she believes in God. That's a subject that rarely comes up in video games period, let alone in a game whose setting screams otherwise. That's deep. that alone sold me on her character. God is win-sauce. (Yes, I am comfortable enogh with my beliefs to not only state that here, but say God is win-sauce.)

No worries you aren't alone in the God is win-sauce thing.

Eh, Ashley's never been the "big picture" kind of gal. She thinks she's staying true to something important, as though it will stop the reapers. That's why she's Gunnery Chief Williams, and Commander Shepard is Commander Goddamn Shepard, and that's why he'd win.

Granted, I'm glad Bioware had the courage to not make your LI kiss the ground you walk on. Ashley's happy to see you, but she can't reconcile what she sees as you "switching sides."

To be fair, she's now Operations Chief Ashley Williams.....doesn't make her any less of a **** though.

Which she is because of Shepard. Without Shepard she'd still be Gunnery Chief Williams being looked over for promotions. "It's in my blood" good grief but it is cliched enough for Ashley Williams and at least she didn't start spouting poetry.

first point can be nulled if you woke up and saw the council ( assuming you're para / neutral ) you can ask Anderson where your former team mate is and he says he can't tell you to that degree

It's hardly nulled when Cerberus out of all people actually knows about her whereabouts  Not to mention obvious means of communication like extranet mail which doesn't require knowledge of person's physical location. Overall it's of course the game setting you up but from Ashley's viewpoint there's no "game" but simply Shepard who appears uncaring enough not to get in touch. Just like you can't even send a note to your own mother if you have spacer background, and she mails you with complaint about it, too.

the second one is a fault in the conversation tree, there's absolutely nothing to allow you to "prove" yourself like Tali in Freedom's Progress

But then she's hardly at fault to decide there's no reason to trust you when you don't have any actual reason for that. Yes, the game screws the player here (again) to achieve desired resolution but to get pissed off at Ashley as if she's the one acting unreasonably here is completely biased.

Though I can understand why Ashley was pissed and upset. Seeing someone you buried standing right in front of you is kinda of the Shock and that line was deal breaker with me... I wish I could have put in my own line...I would said something like..

"You know what I died my last thought as I was burnt to a crisp making planet fall was of you.. When I woke after two years first thing I thought of was YOU!. I came here looking for you... I am not here out of duty ,,, I'm here for you, Guess something things I should buried back with the Normandy..... Joker prep the shuttle...I'm sick of this damn colony."

Either Himmelstor is Mordin, or he is quoting him. =D

Anyway, yeah Ashley really made me go through both a facepalm and a WTF moment.
To be honest, I wanted to treat her like I did that Journalist the first game!

Maybe she was on her *special day*...

I really don't understand what everyones beef is with Being alliance and being for the council. Everytime I play through the first game and save their life, they mock my Reaper and Collector theories in the second game.

Why is everyone so hung up on being a part of that corrupted organization that is more concerned with their political seating than the survival of their respective races. Lets face it, they don't respect humans at all in this game.

To me, I have some love for doing work with Cerberus, while I don't completely agree with the ends justify the means, if only one organization is actually going to believe you and help you, that tends to be your only option.

Personally, fk the council, so sick of that Turian council member and all their BS.

So Ashley was as acerbic as Kaidan was? I can see why Bioware may have done this.

1) So Ashley and Kaidan don't join the suicide mission, thereby surviving to ME3.

2) So one doesn't feel quite as guilty for choosing a new romance interest, because you could reason it kind of ended. It's been 2 years, and Ash/Kaidan is running their mouth about you being with Cerberus.

3) Story telling. It needs conflict.

I've noticed almost all of the Ashley hate seems to be a result of the fact that she doesn't define herself by Shepard's actions.

That's exactly why this exchange made me appreciate her character more. She's there to do more than just get plugged by a male Shepard. She's Miranda's Alliance counterpart, the tried-and-true soldier who holds true to the Alliance and everything that it (ideally) stands for. Her family's heritage, her religion, all of it.

Shepard is not her life; he's merely a part of it, or was, two long years ago.
