In terms of gameplay, what does this do for you, exactly? Does it open up new dialogue options during the course of the game? Do you get access to equipment you wouldn't have otherwise? Or is it just something that looks spiffy on a resumé?

I wouldnt mind knowing this too. Im betting it has more of an effect on ME3. I havnt noticed too much difference thruout the ME2 story if your reinstated.

Hmm... there was one shopkeeper on the citadel you could try to convice to give you a discount because you were a spectre (talked to her BEFORE getting reinstated). Maybe you'll get it if you're officially spectre again? Have to try that.

A few times you get to use it to immediately override people's authority. It only really works on the Citadel though, as they don't care about the Council's authority in the Terminus systems.

I didn't get reinstated, and I told a C-Sec officer "try and arrest a former Spectre!"

Spiff up that old resume.

2183 CE: Became a Spectre.

2183 CE: Destroyed ancient half-organic, half-machine construct the size of a Dreadnought and foiled his plans to harvest all life in the galaxy.

2183 CE: Died. Lost Spectre status. =(

2185 CE: Became alive again. Still not a Spectre. =(

2185 CE: Became a Spectre!

2185 CE: Took care of some crap for Tim.

Bah. Reinstatement. Being dead is about a hundred times better. The Council talked to me like I was a lunatic after I threw away eight warships and nearly three thousand human lives to save them. I essentially told them that they could go ahead and reinstate my shaft. With their mouths.

When you interrogate the guy with Thane it opens up a new conversation option.

You can get the citadel souvenir discount without saying its your favorite shop.

When you help out the Quarian girl you tell the csec guy hes not going to run in a Spectre.

Also its worth noting that Anderson says you never truely lost your spectre status, since it has to be specifically revoked by the council. So the only way you won't be a spectre in ME3 is if you have Udina heading a Human Council (they disband the spectres).

Oh and if you fail to talk/beat that one guy into telling you who Kolyat's target is, and his lawyer comes in you can pull the "I'm a spectre" card and the lawyer wets his pants and you'll get your info anyway.

It sounds more badass to say you're a Spectre rather than a "former Spectre", which makes it sound like you lost it for bad behaviour.

Or you just retired because you decided you were too badass.

Death is always a pretty convincing retirement option...

you just get to throw the 'i'm a spectre' around in a couple dialogues around the citadel in quests and whatnot.

That's a case of the collectors deciding your were too badass to be allowed to live. Little did they know all it would do is ****** Shepard off.

They didn't want you dead. They want you to be the leading mind of the Human Reaper. That's why they're trying to get their claws on you during the whole game. :P
