Well nobody ever said ME2 is a true RPG regarding your last point. Its more of a shooter/rpg hybrid with the second being a little more focused on combat.

Mass Effect is an action RPG. This was stated a long time ago. Ad for why you hate, because you just do. No one can make you like it.

first let me say, im disappointed how ME2 turned out. but i have already beat it within a week because i had fun.
i have lots of fun playing it, but i wish it had more RPG features like character customization beyond 4 talents and a couple random "%" upgrades that you have to look up on your ship in some arbitrary "upgrade" window..
i love what they did with combat in ME2. i love the physics, i love the ammo, (even if its partially makes the lore a lil wonky) and i love the precision shooting. if they would have added this to a ME1 approach it would have been nirvana for me. but thats my tastes.
i love spreadsheet RPGs. DAO is way more spreadsheet than ME1 but ME1 is way more than ME2. maybe with ME3 we will have a happy medium.
i just wish biowares answer to rough features werent a blunt force trauma to the hard drive. i wish they would have scaled things instead of cut them.

Good job. My thoughts exactly. Though I can agree on only these things:
1. Helmet Toggle/No helmet during dialog
2. Lack of variety in armors/weapons (needs more options, not that the current stuff is bad)
3. Better depiction of romance scenes (ME1 pulled it off great, ME2 had better characterization, but fade to black in full clothing is just lazy).

Seems to be the general response to the game thus far. And I think I found the answer why. Because it's not ME1. People hate it because the second installment is not exactly like the first game. These people are afriad of change, and how they have managed to stay engaged in video games for so long is beyond me.
No i dont think its that simple.
Most people that dont like ME2 as much as ME1 are more RPG type gamers, and ME2 has clearly dumbed down the sort of complexity usually found in an RPG such as DAO or to a lesser extent ME1.
Also its not right to say they or I "hate" ME2. We dont hate it, we just dont like it very much and expected something much better.

It's like a banana. You strip off the top part, and all you're left with is the inside. This is just like ME2. They stripped some of the RPG elements, and just left the other things. Not in a bad way, just not in a way that appeals to its audience.

I'm not here to defend BioWare. In my honest opinion, they should stop making games. Everything they do gets thrown right back in their faces and complained about. When Mass Effect came out, people were ecstatic about it, but in a month or so the complaints came rolling in. Same thing with ME2. Even NWN got tons of complaints and that's as close to a "pure" wRPG as you can get. And I'm going to reiterate, people seem to expect that everything BioWare makes is going to be perfect, but that's never going to be the case. So instead of crying shenanigans on them, we should be a little bit more civil with our criticisms.
