Random bit of history: that was the year the Crusades started.
That's the year the first crusades were started. And they started in 1095, just never really got around to the actual Crusading part until 1096. While those and the second were interesting, I personally love the third Crusade the most. It's more like wit on the battlefield rather than raw, unadulterated violence (though there was still a lot of that).
Not to mention no one is more baller than Richard I, King of England who didn't speak English since he spent nearly his entire raised life in France in that baller Angevin Empire. Unfortunately his death would bring about the horrible King John who would begin to lose all the land that England had gained.
Not to mention Richard I is so much cooler than Frederick "let me keep my armor on while I swim in the river and drown" Barbarossa.
It's all because of that damn Donation of Constantine *shakes fist*.
