Alright, I gotta be going now. Long day ahead, but after today...easy 4 day weekend for me!
Thought I would pose one question to everyone though, get some more discussion going: What combo of pre-service history and psychological profile for a male Shepard do you think Tali would be most compatible with/find most appealing? I know it doesn't really matter that much, especially in creating extra dialogue (none to date as far as Tali goes) but it's something I have been thinking about. I thought Spacer would be good, spending your whole life aboard ships like she has. Colonist also poses the situation where you know what it's like to have no parents either. Could get some interesting mixes I guess.
Anyways, have fun guys, 1100 pages by tonight? Keelah Se'lai!
Now this is a very interesting question.
You do realize that almost no matter what Shepard’s background is, Tali has a hook or can empathize with him.
For example, Spacefarer seems the most obvious but I don’t that is as strong as anything other than another “space migrant”. But it is at least a common ground she understands.
It really becomes interesting when Shepard has his background other than as a Spacefarer.
For example if he is a colonist, there’s lots for Tali and Shepard to talk about and for her to find things of interest to her. Shepard’s loss of his parents and the raid that killed them for example. She can definitely relate to your lost of home and family.
Even as an Earther, I would think she would find it fascinating to talk about how crowded the slums were and how gangs worked on earth. Looked from her perspective, in this case, Shepard’s life on earth and climb out of poverty to prove himself sounds quite a bit like he went on his own personal pilgrimage.
As for the other traits, She’ll see a “ruthless” character as someone willing to make hard choices like the conclave or those serving on the admiralty board, or rather her ideal of someone on either bodies should make. Strength of self and perhaps she sees her father in you.
Sole survivor would speak to her on a more personal level as she seems to always be the one “left behind”. First, on her pilgrimage, at the end of ME1, then at Freedom’s Progress , then at Haelstrom and later on the Alarei. She knows more than any other what it means to be the one left behind by friends and the ones she loves.
Everybody loves the Hero, though I think her view of Shepard the Hero is quite something different. She mentions shepard saving her, that’s personal, she mentions Sehpard saving the colonists on Feros, Shepard’s willingness to take the high, harder road to save everyone speaks to her a way as only a Quarian who must always think of others first can undertand and she mentions Shepard trying to save the galaxy even when the galaxy turns its back to him. Her perspective of him is something quite more intimate I would think no?
No other “love interest” had quite the same development in terms of having something common and a real genuine feel that she’s the real thing as far as her emotions go. She does love Shepard, and it’s not “puppy” love, or lust, but something born from her time spent with him and knowing him in more intimate ways that the other Love interest just doesn’t have.

the main purpose for the background was for your bonus to alignment in ME1
spacer/warhero was double paragon
colonist/sole survivor was mix
earthborn/ruthless was double renegade
it does play into miranda's LI conversation thou but not Tali's unfortunately

Doesn't change how people like to percieve their Shepards history and how it would connect with Tali.

My wish is for Tali as continued romance and squadmate in ME3 and for her to utter those 3 little words in that sweet voice of hers...

Everyone is either drawing, writing, or sleeping I guess?
Lurking is popular as well, for those of us without minds to rest, or creativity to flex. =)

I like the spacer/war hero myself. Seems to be more viable to me since we are expanding to the stars and I just like the feel of it.
@lariet

I looked at it the other direction: I mean, Shep gets off the streets. He was surprised to see Finch again in ME1. It was something he left behind, and in general Shepard doesn't seem to leave anyone behind.Lord_Moose wrote...

Earthborn doesn't understand family like Tali does, I think. But I personally like the choice.
But it gives him an understanding of cooperation, and the strength in working together.
he joined up with the reds to live.
So its a little sad to hear that the Red have lost people in the colony attacks, men... women... children.
tens of thousands, that im unable to save.
Earthborn is the "renegade" choice. It's debatable exactly what the being in the Reds taught him.
Not true.
That's like saying everyone born in xxx country is poor and has no tech skills.
For example, an Earthborn Ruthless Shepard would for most people be a full renegade but what if because he was in the gangs, he learnt the lesson that power is might but might does not always mean right? He swears that he'll get out of the slums, better himself and come back to clean things up, starting with himself? IF you RP Shepard this way, he'll turn out Paragon because he knows how it is to be down and out and truly want to help people and still have some Renegade points because he doen't let others screw him either.

Do you remember Noveria in ME1? I love when you walk up to the guards with Tali in your party
Guards: You have to give up your weapons
Shepard: We'll cooperate.. for now
Tali: is that armor in good shape? Im standing behind you when we find the geth...
