Indeed. The writing in Mass Effect is way better than Twilight (trust me, I've read the first book and it was awful). But I am simply noting the parallels for you all.

Sometimes I wonder if Tali is bordering the edge of overratedness... I like her, but Mordin and Liara are still the top dogs in my book. (I hope Liara comes back for ME3.)

With increased popularity comes increased disdain from those who do not share the views of the group, and are subjected to hearing + seeing it constantly. I agree completely that Mordin is one of the greatest characters, and I still love having him around. Same with Liara, I adore her, and she was my LI on my very first time playing ME, so I have good memories of her (I also understand her in ME2, unlike the vast majority).

Agreed. I happen to like all the characters that were introduced. Each of them had their own brand of personality magic to contribute, which is why I find it difficult to vote on "Favourite character" polls. It's an a fantastic cast of characters BioWare created.

Stop kidding youself, son! You gotta have a favorite! Tali, si?[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]

Considering which forum you post on, obvious.
Doctor is back.
And always has a favorite!
For ME2, Tali!

Question: To anyone who HAS played with a custom Shepard, did you notice that your scars go away when you're brought back from the dead at the beginning of ME2? At first I thought this made sense; being brought back with your face and everything re-structured will remove any scars on your outer epithelium...but how come default Shepard keeps his scar?

in non-fluff terms = dedicated texturemap, no need to change the posterboy face
in fluff terms = Cerberus thought Shepards distinct looks were integral to his image as humanity's hope.

Haha figured as much. Say, has anyone noticed the funny things that Tali occasionally says on some loyalty and/or main missions? I always have her in my squad, but to those who missed a few missions, I remember this particularly funny one:

Mordin's loyalty mission, on Tuchanka:
Shep (to Krogan scout): You have to get yourself back to Urdnot!
Scout: But I can't!
Shep (Paragon option): Are you just gonna sit there like a Quarian with a belly ache?
Tali: I'm standing RIGHT HERE!

I seriously could talk about Tali and Mass Effect for hours and hours. I like every squadmember and could talk abotu them, but seriously the more I read this thread and repeating my own thoughts, it makes me believe Tali is the main character. Seriously, I feel more connected to her in the story than Shepard. She's got a family, Shepard doesn't. I should have chosen Colinist instead of Earthborn, but really besides the I Remember Me mission, he doesn't talk about his past that much.

I really wish Shepard had a son...and he has a chance of dying in ME3. Wouldn't that be dramatic? If you recruited your own son?

Depends on the background you select(ed) for Shepard. My Shepard's mother is the captain of the Alliance dreadgnaught "Ishimura" and declined a promotion to become a one star admiral because she feels she that it is a political move and that she is better able to honour her son's memory (she sends you an e-mai later when she finds out you are alive) that way, which repeating news casts broadcast throughout ME2. BioWare really went to town with all the major and minor stories.

any chance for a screenshot of that letter? My ME1 import was a colonist (which gave me a nice letter from Talitha, albiet she's in the care of Cerberus doctors, which worries me)

I'd be happy too, but unfortunately "PrntScr" has only produced black boxes on my end with ME2 to date. Fraps wouldn't install due to some conflict with my OS. I may try a different download and see if it was just a bad install file.

You could always try using Xfire, if all else fails. It's quite reliable for taking screenshots.

I still have yet to read that one, I think I'll do that now.
On the note of fanfic.. This is one of the most emotional, and well written I've read. I cried before the end.

Don't know if anyone is interested, but for my ME1 Earthborn import, I got this letter:

Hello from the Reds

From Finch:

Had family on a colony that got hit. I used some contacts with the Reds and found a couple of people who said they could get you this message.

You might not have much use for me. You spend too much time with the damn aliens, pretending your time in the gangs back on earth never happened. I know you weren't happy when I found you at the Citadel a couple years back.

But I'm glad you're on this. I hope you find whoever took my people on Freedom's Progress and kick their scaly asses. I'm glad it's a human finding these bastards. I'm glad it's you.

Do the Reds proud.

End quote.

So yeah I don't feel really attached to "the Reds" but hey, what can you do?

To be on topic, how would growing up with gangs affect me and Tali's relationship? For one thing she's used to danger, and she likes club music. Earthborn = Tali's favorite?

Concur. Tali is also personal favorite. Hope role in ME3 will be no less than ME2, if not greater.

I think its safe to say that there isn't a more perfect video game girl out there...

*sob*

Why's she gotta be in a video game...

Time to find a girl like her, I'd say. No girl will fit the mold perfectly, but some will come close...

That's my current plan. I figure it's going to take time, so I'll take it easy and not push when there is nothing to push. Besides, I find my most rewarding and fulfilling relationships tend to have been the ones where Love found me and I didn't go chasing it.

I'm with you on that. Thing is, sometimes that doesn't seem to work out 100% of the time. I broke up with my gf of 4 years last August, and that was one of those relationships that just "happened". Been single since, and sometimes it got hard...but after playing Mass Effect 1 and 2 these past few months, I can sadly say that I've felt feelings I don't remember ever feeling during our relationship. Don't laugh!! :crying:
I really hope that a girl like Tali exists out there in the galaxy for me. Until then, I'll play Mass Effect. Heck, I'll still play Mass Effect once I find a girl like Tali!

You have nothing to feel ashamed about regarding what you wrote above, IMO. I've been single for close to a year now; my previous relationship lasted 1 ½ years or so and it started by complete chance due to a random voice chat amongst online players in a CS: Source zombie mod game. Some people might laugh at meeting someone that way but hey, I'm the one who ended up with a super sweet and loving girlfriend for a year and a half because we were both willing to take a chance on each other (yes, we did end up living in the same area, etc). Besides, people take chances on each other every time regardless of how they met - it's just the circumstances that differ. I can earnestly say that I've never been more at peace nor felt a more selfless and unconditional love in a romantic relationship than I did with that girl. Still, it didn't last and now I find myself smitten with Tali/the personality of Tali. It's going to be a tough sell matching that calibre of persona, but not impossible.
