From what i hear the scary black men always fall on any female crewmen who show up at the base. It was an airforce base though, could be different.

And there's a tip, Thats her full name, She still keeps the name of the ship she was born on and grew up on, Nar Rayya, 'Born of Rayya'

I've read both books, ascension is my favorite since it's so quarian-centric.
