16,500 posts...now, I like Tali, and I like the Quarians and the trip to the Migrant fleet...but I admit to being a little mystified by her crushing popularity on the forum; she has more posts then everyone else put together. Now, thread size is only one way (and probably not entirely accurate) for gauging a character's popularity...but still. What is it about her that causes such an enormous amount fan outpouring?

(To clarify: I like Tali, and I'm glad she's popular and will be back in ME3. I'm just wondering why she seems ten times more popular then everyone else.)

I could rattle of a non-comprehensive list of traits that Tali'Zorah vas Normandy possesses (intelligence, sweet, shy, earnest, quirky, passionate, courageous, strong yet gentle, reasonable, a voice that makes grown men weak at the knees, a touch of mystery, etc.) which are immensely appealing to many. Yet perhaps it is more succintly summed up by stating that she represents a figure that many of us yearn so deeply, even desperately, for; like a drowning sailor at sea clings to flotsam to keep his head above the encroaching cold water, so too are people here desperate-yet-hopeful that perhaps maybe, just maybe, someday they may count themselves fortunate enough to encounter a real-live woman who encapsulates if not all of these traits, then at very least some of them. In short: Tali has become a symbol of attainable perfection. It is a powerful thing for it speaks to a yearning inside many of us and we feel its call. The character of Tali'Zorah has reached out and captured our hearts and our imagination and we want more. Much more.

Don't you wonder, though, that if they gave you more, much much more, it would completely demystify her? Would you still think of her as a 'symbol of sustainable perfection' if you knew all there was to know about her? (I actually think imperfections are what make a character compelling.)

(I'm sure I'm jumping into a they should show Tali's face vs. They shouldn't show Tali's face argument I'm barely prepared for...)

To the discussion about Tali's real look behind the mask...I'm not sure if I really want to see that. I'm not afraid that thear would be somekind of tentacle-mess, no. :D It's just that everyone has a unique taste for beauty and I'm pretty sure art-director of Mass Effect has different taste for women than I do.

For example: Tali's accent reminds me about eastern europeans (like the old eastern block if that's not rude) and the quarian culture somewhat jewish or muslims, even a little gypsie. But I don't like to think her with a look like that. Or with any kind of spesific look, cultrure and those things doesn't matter. I've always loved masked villains and characters, I would even mask myself if that wouldn't be socially awkward. I wan't to let Tali's lovely voice fill my mind with beatifull images and let the imagination fly. Even in this topic there's many "Tali unmasked"-pictures (Wrex included XD), but I don't like those faces. They are by the imagination (beatifull still, of course) of other people, not me. So if they want to reveal Quarians and Tali's looks in ME3, please give me at least a editor where I could make Tali look like the girl of my life. xD

I actually went to High school with the lead cinematic artist (Parrish Ley) and all I can say remembering from his art back then....if he has anything to do with designing Tali's face in ME3, it'll be epic.

Salient points. I suppose part of the beauty about this phenomenon mirrors that of Shepard: Each of our Shepards is Shepard and yet each version of him/her is our own unique version. Thus perfection in this instance has a sliding scale in regards to what quantifies it pending the expectations, desires, needs and hopes of each individual aspiring to find it. Furthermore, perhaps for some people part of that perfection might entail the person in question not being without flaw (and thus not "perfect" in the traditional sense of the concept), but rather in possession of flaws like we all are yet in a manner and combination that to them - each individual that is - is perfection. Call it "human perfection" if it makes it more apt.

As to demystifying Tali'Zorah through increased knowledge of her - both personality-wise and phyiscally speaking - that is a possibility, and one which has caused some concern amongst the players. There are those who would prefer to see Tali not have a face reveal in ME3. While I can appreciate their concerns and respect their opinion, it is not one I agree with. As others have stated, at some point the mystery has to be rewarded or it will seem hollow. Given that ME3 is by all appearances going to be the final hurrah and swan song for Shepard and company, it's a case of "now or never" in regards to revealing Tali's face and determining the relationship aspects between her and Shepard during the course of ME3. That latter part also goes for Shepard and any of the other potential love interests in the ME trilogy.

Really? Well ME sure has some epic stuff (including art) in it, but I'm just afraid that I have a little too "unique" taste for beaty. ._. But I still believe that if they're going to someday reveal what Tali looks like, she is going to be beautifull! That is if they don't read this topic and decide to make sick krogan-joke. xD

Fair enough; personally, intoxicating as the cake of mystery may be, at some point I want to see all cards on the table. "Put up or shut up" essentially.

:o  BEFORE I HEAD OFF TO BED WANTED TO DROP THIS JUICY INFO FOR ALL US TALI FANS:

I just read this on Destructoid.com where one of the journalists got a chance to ask some more questions from Bioware...The part I felt was most interesting was this...

"...One thing we’re going to keep an eye on is how people make use of each of the characters in Mass Effect 2. That will influence our decisions on the importance of those characters in the ongoing story into Mass Effect 3."

All video game companies do this now due to most people being on-line.  They leave a code in the game that uploads certain information to the Developer they want to know.  e.g. what guns are most used in a game, where does the player die the most in a multiplayer map, etc.  So it seems Bioware is actually watching us to see what characters we use the most during our playthroughs too!

My advice?  Do another playthrough and get Tali on your team as soon as possible...then, *laugh* go into a mission and leave your xbox on for 24 hours before completing the mission and sending the data to Bioware!

Well that's true too. I've got to admit I held my breath when Shepard removed Tali's mask and sighted when you couldn't se even a little hint. And I don't like something it is well...like personality-mysteries. I wouldn't love Tali so much if she would had kept something in secret from Shepard. At the same time, I wait and fear to see Tali's face. :D
