Infiltrator, just as stong as soldier I think, plus the steath aspect is great to bash enemies. You still get the sniper rifle from the start & can pick up the assault rifle traing on the collector ship. My 2 cents anyway

Same here (infiltrator), but I chose the Widow sniper rifle over the AR on the collector ship.

Wait, so, even if you cant use AR's, if you get the AR, you can use it? Image IPB

when you go to the collector ship, and get the pile of weapons, depending on your class, you can pickup a really good weapon, or choose to train in a weapon skill that you can't use

so for infiltrator, you could get the big widow, or train Assualt Rifle or Shotgun

Speaking of which, I was under the impression that when I started a second playthrough with my Shepard, that all of his gear would transfer (i.e. armor, weapons, abilities, etc.). Now the armor and abilities did transfer (except for the Paragon/Renegade states - they reset which makes sense), but my weapons were gone! My beloved Revenant assault rifle was no more! :crying: Now I have to run around with the in comparison lame pea-shooters until the Collector ship mission comes around and this is while I'm playing on a harder difficulty level to boot! Bah! Also, at the end of the first playthrough a message stated that all your heavy weapons would transfer over: That has not happened! Where's my pimped M-920 Cain?! GAAARRGH! :D

Bumping for Tali epicness.

P.S. What class did people play when romancing Tali ??

Sentinal. All the Way, Every Time.
I am an unstoppable beast, readying tech armor for a huge bonus to shields, with a power boost to my biotic powers from it, as well as an explosive shockwave when the shield fails, knocking away any enemys.
My biotic powers are Beasts, with Warp and Throw, destroyed barriers and tossing around foes like burlap sacks

Many a time, i've flat out Broken Cover, and rushed a solo enemy, or a duo, knowing that if they spotted me an opened fire, well :3 Shields go down, Boom, and i beat them to death with my rifle butt.

Many a time have i gone toe to toe with a Geth Prime, and Won.

So, my wife knows about my Tali love and is ok with it. She has looked at the forum and has a question for you guys (I'm guessing most are guys). She thinks men go after women soley on looks, yet you've (me included) have fallen for a woman you can't even see. You have taken the time to learn about her without her looks being a factor. Now not knowing what you know of her now, how many of you would have even given her the chance (or even time of day) if you could have seen her upfront and she was ugly? Would you have had her in your party, given her a chance and grown to love her, would you have not even have recruited her, or would you have recruited her but not have any dialog with her? To be honest I don't know my answer.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I have returned.

Ouff! That is a tough question. My personal disposition is that looks do matter. The question then becomes "How much do looks matter"? And that is something that can be influenced by other factors such as personality, ability, intellect, chemistry and history together. Granted, chemistry is often based on both physical and psychological factors but can also easily simply be based on physical stimuli and urges, at least initially.

So to get back to your wife's question, I'm not sure what my reaction would have been back then if Tali had had a face like the predator. She had useful skills as a party member so I might very well have included her regardless and developed a more "buddy-buddy" relationship with her. Then again Tali's voice would most certainly not have been a complimentary match to a predator face and I have a difficult time associating her personality with such a visage.

Perhaps Tali'Zorah's situation is a unique one that simply happened to land at the right time, in the right place, in the right "packaging" if you will. Because her features are covered up, and because she wasn't a romanceable character in ME1, it has built up a level of mystery and interest/desire. The fact that her womanly curves suggest at something potentially exquisite under that helmet and suit - which is further reinforced by that voice of hers and a spark of a personality that feels safe, comfortable, warm yet intriguing and passionate all at the same time made it all but irresistable for so many of us. Whether BioWare intended for Tali to become a love interest or not (they have stated that they were worried players wouldn't like her because of her "chicken feet") events on the ground have moved at a pace that has left them playing catch-up. To BioWare's credit they have done a fantastic job in upping their game with Tali in ME2, and have clearly teased that we are on the verge of finally getting to that moment of truth where we shall each be able to ascertain whether or not Tali's face and physical features measure up to the standards we each individually can accept or not. I do not expect to be disappointed yet I also do not intend to fault anyone if they simply can not see themselves with Tali after seeing her face. We humans are many things and amongst them is the irrefutable fact that we are visual creatures. We have evolved to take in, analyze and react to physical stimuli - especially through sight - more than anything else. As our civilisations have advanced it has steadily freed up the possibility of focusing on more than just the outer looks and instead also give credence to what lies within a person's character. And thus we come full circle because while looks may attract us, they are not capable of making us happy on their own. That requires certain character traits that gel with our own which will be expressed as an inner longing for as long as such remains unfulfilled. In a twist of fate Tali'Zorah has ended up in a reverse process of the usual human romance courting patterns and it is precisely because of this, I believe, that she is so appealing to so many.

P.S. I just realised I didn't answer your wife's question. She was asking if I would have engaged in conversations with Tali if she had been of an uncomely visage. The answer is yes, I would have.

You've been rehearsing that all day haven't you ;)

can you get more weapons by reusing the same character in multiple playthroughs? I got sniper for my sentinel and am jealous of Tali's new dlc shotgun... or does the weapon training skip/replace on subsequent playthroughs?

That question was raised before and the consensus seems to be that you can't pick up more than one special weapon at a time. Either it locks the special weapon you already have in place on the next playthrough, or it removes it. I've started a second playthrough and my Revenant AR is missing. I was/am quite dismayed by this as I had been looking forward to demolishing the pesky mechs and Collectors early on with a fully leveled up incendiary skill coupled with the Revenant.

Of course I would talk to her if she was ugly, not talking to someone because he´s/she´s ugly or just not your type is pretty F*****up. Tali has more to offer than just her looks, she has so many adorable character traits. Would still love her.
And I think she has grown to most of us during ME1 so it doesn´t matter what she looks like.
Just my opinion though

settle down big guy, but seriously keep that in mind in the real world and you might just find your own "Tali"

Wow!

Personally, I think this is the best fit to Tali's voice and personality I've seen to date. Human looking or not, doesn't matter - this would do. It would do more than nicely, IMO.

Wow first off your wife is super cool!  My wife has grown to really hate ME because I love it so much and she doesnt like Tali because I talk about her and she is on my desktop lol.  Funny though she agreed to dress up as her for Dragon Con 2011 and Miranda for Dragon Con 2010.  I am not that shallow and I beleive that people can grow on you.  Every woman I know is not some one I think is super hot and that doesnt keep me from speaking to them and hanging out with them.  I think Tali has proven that many of us are not shallow.  The fact that we feel for her comes from something deeper then just how she looks because other then nice hips we really dont know.

Have in my party?  Definitely.  I have some power gamer in me, so getting all the party members is key.

Romance?  Less likely, but it's a video game, so I don't think my choices in it reflect real life that well.  Plus I highly doubt she'll be unattractive--I think she'll be roughly human but slightly off, like the Navi in Avatar.  It'll be weird at first, but then you'll start to get used to it.  But hey, she already has a hot body, so even if she's a butterface, she can just leave the mask on. =p

If you're talking real life... looks definitely play a factor.  There very important for initial attraction, but once I get to know someone, personality plays a role, too.  I'll start to think of pretty girls with bad personalities as less attractive after a while, and ugly girls with good personalities as more attractive.  There's some boundary though at which point, no matter how much I like you, you probably need to start taking care of your appearance.  It's not as close to supermodel as you might think, though.

Indeed that pic is good! the only problem i see is that her head appears to be smaller than it actually is... size the head up a bit and it could be what she looks like.

Alright gentlemen! Since I just woke up a short while ago, and because I think this thread's very own Sergio did a bang up job of it, here's a link to a fan made ME2 video with what could easily have been (and still can be) Shepard's theme song. Man up! Tali needs tender, soft, caring men, this is true, yet she also needs men with passion, conviction and the strength to stand up for themselves and the people and things they value in life! Without further ado, I present to you "ME2 - Don't Fear The Reaper".
