It was absolutely worth it. I highly approve of how they handled the romance, and really showed us Tali's perspective, her emotions about having to spend her whole life cut off from a world of sensations that everyone else takes for granted.
From reading some of the threads before the game came out, and some of the developer commentary, I was almost afraid the suits would be retconned, like they're really no big deal. Just some casual affectation. But that was clearly not the case. Hearing Tali talk about being unable to do something as simple as smell a flower, and her anguish over that, was heartbreaking. And of course it made the eventual culmination of the romance so much more significant. There is sensuality to the Tali romance, of course, but there is also a very deep emotional connection and commitment to Shepard that I feel is lacking in some of the other romances.
Agreed. As mentioned previously, Miranda - while in possession of her own merits - strikes me more as "sex just for the sake of sex" as opposed to the deep and endearing connection we can establish with Tali that also comes with a nice dose of sensuality to boot.
I agree whole heartily with you KFD. One night stand, and Jack = One night stand. Tali was the only one that actually had any meaning behind it.
I don't think I agree about Miranda. Obviously she has the more...titillating...romance scene, but she undergoes some important transformations as a result of her relationship with Shepard as well. I haven't done Jack's romance yet so I won't comment on that one. I do think
every romance I've explored in ME2 is better than their ME1 counterparts. It was very easy for me to create an entire batch of ME1 Sheps for import with no romances. Honestly, I am not curious about those characters or how their romances may play out in ME3*, not in the slightest. ME2, definitely.
* I support their inclusion because I believe all fans should have satisfying closure to their Shep's romances, but I personally won't be exploring them.
