Their chiralties aren't "almost the complete opposite" they're just slightly different on a genetic level, which simply means that they are unable to have children.

As a chemist, I should clarify.

Different chiralities does indeed mean completely opposite. Mirror images in fact.

Human (and all other earth life) amino acids are generally portrayed as a carbon atom bonded to four other groups: an amine (NH2) group on the left, a carboxyl (COOH) group on the right, a hydrogen atom above, and a carbon chain below. This would be described as a laevo-amino acid (or S chirality).

Since the canon seems to state that quarians and turians are based on dextro-amino acids,  that would mean that, in their proteins, the carboxyl and amine groups in their amino acids are on opposite sides, making them a mirror image to human amino acids (R chirality).

Essentially, it's like comparing a left hand to a right hand.

On an unrelated note, this isn't how I imagined my first post on the ME2 boards would turn out.

I conceed to the actual Chemist, but still, you'd have to agree with me that the genetic difference only prevents them from having children, and they have to use protection to have sex, correct?

I don't think anyone actually knows...Except maybe for the actual creators of the Quarians and that's if they bothered to show enough forethought to think that far ahead.

I think that turian might need to have a word with you "outside" if you tried it :?

That turian could try, i'll punch him square in the gut.
Or a good throw over those towers.
That just doesnt seem to be very safe construction on a planet dominated by biotic powered people.

Please don't. Perverse discussions like this could get the thread closed.

And NONE of us want that.

Post a new chapter >:3
that'll distract them awa from what exactly was on all those vids and datapads mordin sent us.

Wow, talk about a slave driver!

You know, I never actually got those vids and data pads from Mordin. Not through lack of trying, I have to say, but he never wanted to hand them over, it seems.

Also, KFD doesn't have a talent unless glancing over at his vast porn collection and writing down a few titles counts as a talent?

:innocent:

You'll retract those unsightly words post haste sonny boy! Or I shall flail you with a cat o' nines!

Well of course, never challenged that.

DNA and protein structures are actually probably fairly similar; just turn in opposite directions.

True, though I've found that few things have quite the same reaction as a platoon of well armed and trained soldiers. Maybe it's just me. *shrugs*

Lol...

But that does bring up a good point, if Tali ingested or absorbed any "liquids" it'd be the same as trying to eat human food, it'd likely tear up her insides, just like a human trying to eat alien food. >.<

Good thing Mordin is only a deck away.

Still, fairly basic organic chemistry.
