Kal'reeger is the fooken man - he's the quarian version of Jayne Cobb from Firefly for Keelah's sake!

Seriously, I see him as having a bit of a sweet spot for Tali, but only so far as that all the other members of the Haestrom team (who were Tali's friends, don't forget) were men, as far as I remember.

It's like this - he was in charge of a marine team there simply to protect Tali. They all became friends during the missions they went on, and with Kal being in charge, HE was responsible for Tali's well being, and if anything had happened to her he'd be the one reporting to Rael'Zorah, not any of the other marines.

As each of the marines died on Haestrom their bond would only grow. He's a good man, but simply a friend. Anyone can see that. :)

Aye, but 'tis a mighty fine stereotype

I think archetype might be the word you're looking for.  If so, then I agree.  All great characters in literature share qualities with an archetype.  And Tali is truly a great character, and BioWare has advanced game design to an art.

That was my point in it. Tali isn't a cliche character. She has her own motives, story. But she shows similarities to the archetypical "hidden beeauty" ( if I may call it like this ).

So, the reason why Tali is so popular is because she represents the stereotype of a strong, yet gentle woman that everyone wants to be with.

I need to look for this stereotype in other books/media as well. Is it common?

Gyaah.

Stereotype vs. archetype.

Of course. He love plot is archetypical in that she's the one in the shadows watching the commander but not getting noticed, until now.

They are a right pair those two! I find their interactions amusing.

Kenneth: "Commander, I don't want to bore you with the details....garbledegucktechnicalrabblebabbleblahblahblah"

Gabby: "Kenneth! You're boring the commander."

Yeah, they spend all that time down in the engineering alone...

Though someone somewhere suggested Ken, gabby and Tali, implications disturbing

Sooner or later you're going to have to trust someone. If you can't trust a true and tried old crewmate and new found lover then odds are you may be in a spot of trouble.

Ah! Thank you for making that distinction for me. These words rarely crop up in my daily usage, so I tend to blend both terms together, using them interchangeably.

Tali doesn't fit into a known stereotype yes, but there are subtle similarities between her and many other female characters that danced on the great stage of human culture...

Hey, have you heard all the engineers talking's between NPC only? There may be few cool things said about Tali in it. Actually I only saw the male speaking of Tali's looks. He also mentioned
"her suit being tight in right places" Tali: "You realize, that I hear everything?".

Yeah, i love those engineers. If you want a  laugh, head down to engineering...:)

Hypothetical question: If you were still unable to have Tali in any of the ME games who would you want to have her instead? Personally, I rather like the idea of having Tali with Garrus if not with me. And I'm fairly sure I'd be leaving her in good hands.

Garrus is a good choice. Jacob may not be bad, either.

Anyway, as long as she's happy with that person, it's cool.

I doubt she'll get along with Garrus

With legion on the other side... That will be super fun! I'll even install a camera!

Indeed legion would make for some great dramatic tension.

Having the action in front of your eyes is much better. If Legion takes my Tali i will destroy the Geth and hand Legion to the Reapers.

No prob.  And you're right about Tali's character.  I think that, for modern literature, characters still need to take major traits from different archetypes.  But it's very much a part of 20th (and now 21st) century literature to toy with these different types and see how it changes the nature of the story's conflict.  Good sci-fi in particular has been doing it for many years, and Mass Effect is no less interesting in its character construction than many of the best sci-fi authors/moviemakers.

Erm. Garrus with his dextro-aminoacid DNA? Could be tragic for Tali. Jacob would make a good chice if you wanted to have someone to protect her from harm. But as a lover? Nah.. seems not right.

About Legion, the other Quarian's could start thinking of her as a traitor. Thane maybe? He need some care from such a nice person like Tali, and he surely is a strong warrior. Could eliminate threat's before Tali even sees them.
