Hypothetical question: If you were still unable to have Tali in any of the ME games who would you want to have her instead? Personally, I rather like the idea of having Tali with Garrus if not with me. And I'm fairly sure I'd be leaving her in good hands.

Garrus is a good choice. Jacob may not be bad, either.

Anyway, as long as she's happy with that person, it's cool.

I doubt she'll get along with Garrus

With legion on the other side... That will be super fun! I'll even install a camera!

Indeed legion would make for some great dramatic tension.

Erm. Garrus with his dextro-aminoacid DNA? Could be tragic for Tali. Jacob would make a good chice if you wanted to have someone to protect her from harm. But as a lover? Nah.. seems not right.

About Legion, the other Quarian's could start thinking of her as a traitor. Thane maybe? He need some care from such a nice person like Tali, and he surely is a strong warrior. Could eliminate threat's before Tali even sees them.

Quarians and turians are both dextro-amino acid based. It's why they can eat each other's food.

That's something I don't get. I am not a native speaker, so biological therms are a bit foreign to me. As far as I know, Quarians and Turians have this dextro DNA. SO what does it actually changes? What about human's DNA against Quarian DNA?

Apparently there was a chemist in here last night who explained the proper scientific terms of the four bonding parts to our DNA structure. Apparently the difference, in layman's terms, is that the parts you would expect on the "right" side of human DNA would be on the "left" side for the Turians and Quarians. Apparently the DNA structures are far more similar than they are dissimilar. Still, not directly compatible in terms of bearing offspring as far as we know.

This thread never ceases to impress me. =D Well, it's been like 300 pages since I posted, so it's about time I helped the Tali post count again. =D

So does that mean you could do it without protection?

In chemical terms, there are two different forms of any one amino
acid; right-handed and left-handed. They differ in that their
three-dimensional structures are mirror images of each another, just
like the right and left hands on human beings.
Amino acids from either group can easily bind together with one
another. However, research has revealed a most astonishing fact: The
proteins in all living things, from the simplest to the most complex,
are made up solely of left-handed amino acids. Even if just one
right-handed amino acid is added to a protein's structure, that protein
will become functionless.

In some experiments, bacteria have been given right-handed amino acids,
but the bacteria have immediately broken down these amino acids-and in
some cases, have reconstructed from these fragments left-handed amino
acids that they can use.

In short human metabolism would most likely see turian genetic material as a glitch, it would then break it down and rebuild it in a way that that seems right
I hope I got this right, if there's anyone around that knows more about this, please correct me

If they really wanted to have "incompatible" couple wit a child, they could always invent trans-neurogenic base pair sequencing or some other deus ex machina genetic procedure

Just to clarify dextro, in thiscontext means right handed, and left headed would be laevo

They can have sex, but not reproduce with another race...not sure about Turians. Turians are like Quarians, so they can eat eachother's food though. If thats what you wanted to know than I have done my job :P

I remember Grunt saying something along the lines of Quarians not having soft skin...Unlike the Salarians, Asari and Humans....So...if they don't have soft skin...what kind of skin do they have?  Hoping it's not like sand paper...:(

*sigh* How many times must we go over this? My apologies if you are new here and haven't asked that question before. And if you have, for shame.

No. one. outside. of. BioWare. staff. knows.

Grunt's comment may be an observation based upon the armoured plates that may, or may not, be incorporated in Quarian space suits. In other words, unless Grunt has seen a Quarian outside of his or her suit (which is unlikely since you woke him from the storage tank and he hadn't been outside of it before), he can't know what the Quarians' skin looks or feels like.

As for quarians-turians it'd be more likely for a quarian to catch a disease (virus, bacterial etc) from a turian than a human, simply because turian diseases would be more capable of attacking a dextro based immune system.

Doubt so. The thread has slowed down considerably in the past few days. Maybe next week?

Not quite. The thread has slowed down over the weekend (which also happened to have Valentine's Day fall in it), so a slow down is to be expected. The past two-three days I've come on here we have managed to round a new hundred page mark each day. That said, I do agree that it is likely we will see this thread slow down the more time goes by, with possibly upticks during ME related news releases, new DLC, expansion packs, etc.

For some reason, I doubt there will be a lot of ME2 DLC, with the 2011 expected release date of ME3.

Unknown. Biologically anything is theoretically possible, so even though many do not expect human diseases to be directly transferable to Quraians and vice-versa there nonetheless exists the theoretical possibility that a disease - malignant or otherwise - might have an unforseen effect on either of the two species. As for actual sexual intercourse that would depend on the physical make-up of each species (i.e. do they have matching "parts"). Both humans and Quarians are mamals which implies that Quarians may have a similar reproductive system to that of humans.

And that is what I wanted to know. Great thanks. So in the light of this knowledge, Tali and Shepard can be together, with much attention to what they eat, and knowing they will never have a kid ( from combined their DNA ).
Hmm, never really expected them to have a child, but this would make it much harder for them to live together. :(

That suits me just fine. Casey did speak of a genuine old school, full-on expansion pack on that Bombcast broadcast. That's something I hope to see.

You think we would be discussing the philosophy behind Tali's creation every post, now, do you?

I'd say that 60+% of this post is pointless banter and spam.

Just like my message here right now.
