Of course we all love Tali for her personality. I mean come on, we have never seen her face even once. Well Shepard has..lucky dog.
But thats the beauty and perhaps the curse of being human. We *are* creatures of curiosity. From wondering what will happen if you throw rocks at a hornets nest and how fast you can run away, to sticking your arm down a deep dark crevice because you thought you saw something shiny to wondering what a girl looks like underneath that veil, mask , helmet.
Its why if ever Science Fiction becomes Science Fact, we humans will definitely be snuggling up with some blue skinned alien or working out a way to spend quality time with someone fitting the description of a Quarian.
A salient point...It is also one reason, amongst several others, why we would promptly build an enormous interstella fleet and be prepared to blow anything that so much as twitches at us in a perceived hostile manner to smithereens. Nothing quite warms a beating heart than overbearing firepower.

In all seriousness though, there would certainly be a need for space naval capabilities. To protect civilian and military installations. To mount rescue operations when and where needed. To patrol and uphold the rule of law against pirates, other criminal elements and possibly secessionist colonies (though I would like to think they could be kept on board with a free and fair federal senatorial system of representation headquartered on Earth)....Oh, and just in case we should end up bumping in to something that's less than friendly it's always a sound policy to be able to hold and defend what you possess.
