It was fun because Shepard and Tali were discovering eachother. will it be fun now that the mystery is gone? You never really got to see you ME1 that much. Speaking for myself, yes. I want more. Loads more. What was unleasheded in ME2 is only the beginning as far as I'm concerned.
I'd prefer that ME3 immediately continues with Tali's and Shepard's relationship where it left off, or very shortly there after with some background info mentioned either via e-mails or dialogue options, from ME2. It should still be feasible to incorporate challenges, issues, concerns, etc.

The problem of your LI being expendable still lies though, don't forget that. They would need to have a hell of a lot of extra characters in ME3...actually...just thought of this, perhaps your team is already assembled based on who died and who didn't, no more recruiting. Those that are meant to return from ME1 do so, and everyone that lives from ME2 returns as well. Therefore, the more that died in ME2, the harder a time you will have in ME3. I don't know if anyone here has thought of this, but it certainly clears my mind of all technical issues...
