The commander didn't try to take it off in that opening scene, he/she tried to fix the seal of the helmet... no one wants to die in space... freeze-drying is painful I believe ;)

Freeze-drying doesn't go that fast, especially the freezing part. In vacuum, you can only lose heat through evaporation and radiation.

But I agree, the helmets kinda... kill it. I mean, how can you take someone serious when (s)he's wearing an inferno armour? Or worse, that Death Mask thingy? How do you even get 10% negotiation bonus from it, realistically?

Forgive me if this has been mentioned already, I didn't read every page.
While they are making the helmets removable (a must), it would be nice if they also removed the low LOD filter placed on the armors. The helmets are nicely detailed with a high-res texture, but the rest of the armor, the body, suffers from a reduced LOD texture much like Garrus face did in ME1. This is particularly noticeable on the Terminus and Inferno armors, though the CE suffers from it as well.
While I understand the need for this for consoles, it is not necessary on the PC. Let us see textures in all their glory, only scaling back LOD for older hardware. ME1 had an "Ultra High" setting, why did ME2 get so consolized?

Agreed.

It's what us PC Gamers are forced to put up with. It's like we are second class citizens because we have the money to buy a top-of-the-line gaming rig. DA:O had the same problem. Even on the highest settings I was very disappointed in several of the textures. The fan-made high def texture pack somewhat fixed it, but it was still sad that Bioware toned everything back.

I know a few people in the mod community that have said they'll be working on this, so I wouldn't worry about it. They fixed Bergen's Honor having this problem in DA:O, so I trust them.

Sigh . . . there is a small part of me that hopes they will actually change this. It actually believes that there is a chance. However, i have never heard of a game update changing something like this. For any game. Patches are patches, not upgrades. Does anyone know of older bioware games that fix tiny things like this?

I remember back when KotOR was released on PC and you couldn't walk, you could only run. Many people, including myself, gathered together to ask for a walk/run toggle function and they added it in the next but one patch.

It can happen, it just needs enough people to make a fuss about it. In this case, it's a really obvious oversight. It NEEDS to be changed. It's stupid otherwise. Even the new Cerberus armour has no option to remove the helmet. It's totally lame.

Support added. Especially with the whole 'how do people recognize Shepard?' thing.

Supported. Never used my Collector's, Inferno and never will use Cerberus armor because of the obligatory helmet. I like to always see my Shepard's expression unless there's a good reason.

Also, I wonder If the staff ever thought about how awkward the drinking, kissing and recognizing scenes would be with helmets. I mean, REALLY.

It's not something I really bother, Mass Effect 2 for me is a 10/10. But, why not toggle helmet off? You're working on goddamn paid DLC, why not patch something EVERYBODY seems to be complaining?

+1 for helmet toggle.

Even if its not a toggle, off for conversations unless the helmet is required.

A few more non armor outfits would be good too.

Cerberus crew uniform

Cerberus Officer uniform

Science uniform

And a ratty, dirty looking spacer outfit.

If you are anti Cerberus, your choice is sceince nerd or dirt bag.

It was done to reduce pop-in most likely. Lowers the texture bandwitch. ME2 gives the impression it looks better thanks to better shaders, shadows, lighting, and an all round top notch art direction, and faces are still high detail, but body textures are quite low.

It all depends on what kind of quality the game files are. Its totally possible the ingame files are packed at those low resolutions, which would mean they'll never be 'fixed' unless BioWare release a texture pack.

But thats another issue for another thread. Bumping this because with the Cerberus armor released (mucho gracious BioWare) the problem of forced helmets persists.

Agreed 100%!

When I started my first game, I thought using the Collector´s armor would be good while not upgrading my own. Second conversation after that, without Shep´s face appearing and I dropped it. It´s really terrible.

Toggle the helmet!

And I understando that those armors are very specific things. But since you don´t buy armors, just upgrade them, maybe those armors could be open to some of the upgrades (like arms having that extra spare ammo upgrade).

But Shep´s face during conversations in paramount before anyone even thinks about using another armor. Without it, playing with the same equipment all the time is gonna be boring...

I would love it but a dev confirmed it isn't possible, so enough of these threads please.

Its possible, just probably not as easy as a couple of clicks. They'd probably have to totally rebuild the model so that the head and body are seperate, test it thoroughlly to make sure there's no collision issues etc etc. Worse case scenario rebuild the whole model in 'sections' so it functions similar to the current armor, but is only selectable as a whole (minus the helm).

If they're not going to do it for current armor, fine, but they should take the issue into serious account for future paid DLC and expansions. We all know the latter will come, and we'll eventually get something on a scale of Awakening for Dragon Age.

Fact of the matter is even if I'm buying an expansion and it comes with some sweet new armor I'm very, very rarely going to use it if it covers my head. Its avoidable, but it does require extra work. If they dont want to apply that extra work to the free DLC thats fine, but its a voiced complaint that needs to be heard for paid expansions and content.

I'd love to be able to at least remove the Helmets or customise the other armours, I've been really impressed with the quality and effort of the DLC so far, and I'd have to assume that there is some reason why Bioware didn't include this.

Agreed. That Blood Dragon armor is just taking up space in my Shepard's closet. At this point, I'm pretty satisfied with the look of my M7 armor, but it's still beyond understanding why they would have developed the DLC armors this way.

/signed. Toggle please or slider or - ideally - both, please! During cutscenes would be nice.

Personally, I love having the armors for the sake of having them, and the in-game emails from the Illusive Man are really brilliant, but I never wear them because of the face issue. I usually don't even have a helmet on Shepard most of the time for that reason.

Same here... I didn't go to all that trouble to create the face of my femshep that I've used for both ME1 and ME2 only to have it covered up by a helmet during every conversation.
