Freeze-drying doesn't go that fast, especially the freezing part. In vacuum, you can only lose heat through evaporation and radiation.silverhammer08 wrote...
The commander didn't try to take it off in that opening scene, he/she tried to fix the seal of the helmet... no one wants to die in space... freeze-drying is painful I believe
But I agree, the helmets kinda... kill it. I mean, how can you take someone serious when (s)he's wearing an inferno armour? Or worse, that Death Mask thingy? How do you even get 10% negotiation bonus from it, realistically?
Actually as anybody who ever prepaired food at high altitude will tell you, boiling and freezing points change based on external pressure. In a vacume water and most other fluids will actually boil and freeze simultaneously. Getting spaced aint pretty, though I don't know if your eyeballs will pop out total recall style.
A lack of oxygen is the least of your worries. ME2 loses some realism with those breathing masks, though they do look kind of cool in there own right.
Definitely need removable helmets on DLC, pronto. Not two-three years from now.
Let us appreaciate all of biowares hardwork. Dont make us choose between enjoying DLC or the acting.
I think (and I might be wrong) that bioware mapped all the expressions for all of the dialouge. No procedural genneration. That is an increadible feat. Why would you want to cover that up?
I kind like the design of ME1s armour screen. The fact that you can customize your whole squad. I would like to see something like that return in ME3.
I loved the detail of art of all the armour in ME2. N7 armour especially had some cool customizations. I cant help but wonder if they meant to do more but instead chose to focus there attention on making other parts of the game awesome. I think the combat is mindblowingly increadible. Theres hardly in bugs in the game day release. The eviornments seem more populated and real. I think there is some really big hurdle with the armour or this wouldn't even be an issue.
I hope bioware says something about it soon. I can already tell there is a lot of support for this. They hopefully will adress our concern sometime soon, though if I was an ME dev I'd probably be on beach somewhere with my cell back at the hotel room where it cant bother me.

I'm not using these armors because of this annoying problem. Please BioWare, patch it!

Another reason why could be due to the default N7 helmet giving you a health boost and the DLC armors giving a set group of boosts. You can't tell which boost or part of a boost would come from the helmet and removing it would, in effect, reduce at least one of the bonuses you get from said armor.
That being said, it would be nice if the DLC armors had been created in individual pieces, which each granting a part of the overall bonus. That way would have allowed the player to mix and match a little, though most of the bonuses are already paired with non-DLC armor, making it a moot point.
I still support being able to toggle the helmet on DLC, but I understand the difficulties (and cost in work hours, effort, and so on) that it presents to change it.

I can't remember where it was said, but the reason the DLC armors can't remove the helmets is because they were created as a single piece, one image. In order to allow for removeable helmets, the artists and designers would have to create two, one with helmet and one without.

That point is moot, because when selecting one of the DLC armors you can't select the N7 armor pieces anyway. I can totally live with that aswell, i just want to see Shepard's head at the very least. You should simply be able to toggle the helmets, the bonusses for using the armors should stay the same, helmet or not, since you can't change any other parts anyway. Again, i can totally live with that, and so can 99% of everyone else, as long as we can simply toggle the freaking helmets!
The people who thought it was a good idea to keep the helmets on at all times should be punished severely. Given the customizability of the dfault N7 armor it should NOT be that hard to add a simple helmet toggle for the DLC armors.
