Changing class resets appearance, a Bug?

If you change the class of your character, it resets the appearance to a preset.  This is rather annoying.  I understand it reseting between races, but why should changing my human character's class from say mage to warrior or rogue, cause all the appearance settings to reset?  I have the appearance set to what I want but  I have yet to decide on which class to play.  So I want to make 3 different versions.  I made extra copies by changing the name and saving, but when I change the class of one of the copies, everything resets.  It seems the only solution is to tediously make a screenshot of all the settings and duplicate it by hand.  Is this a bug or a "feature"?

I think it's working as intended. Though it'd be nice if they can improve it and keep the appearance adjustments.

Editing anything sems to reset parts of the appearance.  I changed the name of my dwarf noble and found that the shape of the nose and jaw were altered, as was the head tilt in the portrait.

Hopefully this won't be the case in the released game.  Or at least it will be fixed in a very early (at release?) patch.

very much like the dwarf I designed.

I doubt it's an easy fix. I've seen this sort of thing in a lot of character creators.

Yeah, annoyed me at first, but I know what to expect now. I choose CAREFULLY my class before tweaking the appearance now...

Well, there's no 'easy as pie' fix, but there's certainly one.

First, find My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Pre-release Characters, back up the character you want to "fix" into a new folder.

Open the .xml file in notepad or a better functioning XML editor. You can find a lot of decent ones for free on the net.

PlayerCharacter - Indicates changes here affects player character file.
Name="????" - Indicates the name of the Player Character. Change this here, then change all other fields to help this.
Folder="????" - Indicates which .chr file it should open for appearance. If you make a new character, change it to the name of your new character, it should change appropriately.
Portrait="????_portrait.png" - What portrait your character uses. This can be used for custom portraits too!
Avatar="????.jpg" - How your character looks when uploaded here.
Race="#" - What race your character is. 1 = Dwarf, 2 = Elf, 3 = Human.
class="#" - What class your character is. 1 = Fighter, 2 = Mage, 3 = Rogue.
Gender="#" - What gender your character is. 1 = Male, 2 = Female.
Area="" - Your current area. Leave blank for now.
Origin="#" - Your choice of origin. 1 = Dalish Elf, 2 = Commoner Dwarf, 3 = City Elf, 4 = Mage, 5 = Noble Dwarf/Human.
SoundSet="ss_pc_fRace_temperance" - Indicates the voice-set chosen. Replace "Race" with your chosen race and "temperance" with a given one: sultry, violent, wise, mystic, suave, cocky, exp. Might be more as well, but you get the idea.
Money="0" - Current wealth.
CurrentHealth="#" - Current health. Don't mess with this.
MaxHealth="#" - Max health.
CurrentStamina="#" - Current stamina.
MaxStamina="#" - Max stamina.
Level="#" - Leave this alone.
XP="0" - Leave at 0.
XPNeeded="1" - Leave at 1.
Platform="PC" - Indicates you are using a PC-created character.
Tint="19" - Background color on your portrait.

The rest is pretty much self-explanatory.

Thanks, Mordaedil. I'll try this one when I get home. It was really quite annoying especially if I'm using my previous character as basis.
