The Asari seem to have two dominant
religions: the pantheistic siari and the monotheistic Goddess. I get the
feeling that most references to the Goddess are more a figure of
speech, though.

The Turians have something like a spirit worship.
Each entity in whatever form has a particular spirit or aura to it.

Mordin
mentions Salarians have a belief similar to the Hindu belief of cycle
of life.

Then there's the Drell polytheistic beliefs, though
Thane implies that its a dying religion among his people.

Obviously,
the Hanar think the Protheans are where it's at.

I can see why
siari seems to be a dominant religion across all Citadel species. Most
religions confine themselves the the making of a single world. Siari
encompasses the entire universe.

Sounds like the writers just applied variances of various Earth religions to ME aliens.  I doubt the aliens would regard the human religions as extreme or very strange.

I get the feeling from the various non-human religions in the ME universe that they are not as anthropocentric as human religions can/tend to be.  By that I mean, their religious perspective tends to not focus on themselves.  They don't deify themselves, or aspects of themselves.  Most of the non-human religions that were about the deification of a species are on the way out, as with Athame-worship and the Asari.

I  want to know more about what non-humans, specifically Samara, think of human religions.  The one Asari on Illium tells us that non-humans think that humans can't even get their own religions straight.  Non-humans seem surprised that humans have so many religions.  Most human religions fell apart with the discovery of the cache on Mars.  Ashley is religious, of some sort.

Apparently a lot of Turians became Zen Buddhists (according to the ME1 codex).

 I can't really picture turians doing that

Why's that?

Turians never struck me as the peaceful meditating type.

That isn't Zen.  Zen teaches that to be enlightened one must be in the moment.

Well if they are not as anthropocentric as humans, then that would assumably be a deliberate move by the writers.  Perhaps sending a message?

That's it's nice to not alienate people, and that it's nice to play...nice?

Is that an I'm-being-sarcastic "That's nice", or a I'm-convinced "That's nice"?

Question... do you think Samara should have gotten Singularity rather than lift? It seems more like an Asari power to me.

Sorry I don't really know zen very much. I thought it was meditating and stuff like that from the few times it was mentioned in school. I really need to learn to know what I'm saying before I say it

Yeah, the asari bartender can use singularity so I guess Samara could too. Lift is a basic biotic power so I don't think they should replace it with singularity, but adding singularity would be nice.

It just seems like Samara should have singularity and throw.  Jack should have shockwave and warp.  Miranda should have throw.  Jacob should have lift.

Special powers should have been Jack getting slam and Miranda getting warp ammo.  The bonus powers for Samara and Jacob seem to be in the right place.

hope I'm not late to the discussion, but I was disappointed that alien spirituality was basically depicted as a variation of...human spirituality. I'm not asking the writers to think of something completely fundamentally different from the concept of religions, but I would think that species as advanced as the Asari would embrace harmony between the sciences and the spiritual realms. A collaborative belief that explains the origins and their place in the world. I am NOT talking about scientology btw lol, that is almost too human.

That is interesting.  I am somewhat hesistant to discuss religion into any detail in this open forum.  I was actually a little surprised that york brought it up.  I find it interesting also, but with my outspoken and often times blunt nature, I am intentionaly skirting around this topic.

Yeah, I would like to delve into some of these topics that are being discussed further.  We can't do that without outsiders coming in and disrupting the thread though.

A little side group.  If we start an interesting topic with potential provocativeness that we would really like to delve into, we go to the private group with it.

we don't really have issues with outsiders though, I would say that this thread is one of the more exclusive of the character threads. If we do get a troll then I think frequenters here are mature enough to ignore 'em.

But yea, I am for a private group either way. As long as this thread doesn't suffer for it :)
