I still want that outfit!
Actually two of her daughters voluntarily went into a monastary just for them where they are monitored to make sure they don't hurt anyone. Only Morinth ran and went on a killing spree.

I can't help but wonder what happened to her mate; that's part of the story I'd like to hear more about.
That is a great point! It would be really interesting to find out more about her.
I agree, and I can't believe I didn't really think much of that before. Of couse that might also have alot to do with why she says she won't enter into a relationship again even though she's attracted to a pargonshep.

I think Samara chose the path of the Justicar not only to hunt Morinth down but also because following a Code allowed her to insulate herself from the emotional pain associated with the necessity of the hunt.
She obviously feels great sadness for having killed her favorite child. I do not think she could have found the resolve to do it if she hadn't had the Code to act as her moral compass. A Code of 5000 rules may seem complex to us, but to Samara it "simplifies" things... otherwise she'd likely go mad with grief.
I was touched by her admission of potential romantic interest "...your curiosity is most welcome..." and even more by her final scene where she almost gives in to her feelings before turning Shepard down. Letting down her Justicar reserve to allow herself love would have also released the flood of sadness and grief over the unfairness of her daughters fate. In the end, she denies Shepard in spite of her feelings. Nicely done!
Should she return in ME3 and be romanceable, I hope they'll pace it right... I don't see her "giving in" to Shepard's advances without a lot more bonding. She'll need time to mourn Morinth and make peace with herself before she allows herself to love again.
I think this is a wonderful characterization of her, it just feels right given all the pieces of dialog we get.

Thank you! But the credit is all the BW writing team. Many players have one look at her and see the "asari eye candy" and quickly discard her because she isn't spouting outrageously renegade commentary...
My Shepards are strongly paragon-biased, so I tend to seek out the good in characters. Samara's "loyalty missions" is the only one that ends in sorrow (unless you go and pick Morinth).
Jack experiences a catharsis on hers, a freedom from an obsessive rage at her former captors that allows her to try and rebuild trust in someone, which ends up in budding friendship/love with Shepard. Lot's of crying but it's a happy ending...
Samara's not granted that release, or rather, she cannot afford the luxury of it. Her Code is the brace that keeps her from giving in to despair. Her Code is what allowed her to meet Shepard and have friends again. The smile on her face when she thanks Shepard for his/her curiosity is genuine. Her Code has unexpectedly reminded her she is alive. I rather think she was pleasantly surprised by this.
Definitely the most mature/complex "romance" of ME2, IMO.

Actually, I'm kinda hoping Liara's
mysterious "father" will turn out to be Matriarch Aethyta... it just
makes so much sense really: she's as foul-mouthed as her krogan father,
she's looked down upon by the other "wiser" asari Matriarchs... No
wonder Benezia wanted to keep Liara ignorant of her lineage...
And
having latent Krogan personality traits might explain Liara's newfound
ruthlessness. People keep mentioning similarities between Benezia and
Liara in ME2... what if this "renegade" Liara was just letting her
grand-father's heritage loose? And Aethyta DID have a pureblood
daughter as one point...
I also hope so. Liara's rogue traits coming from benezia didn't mesh well with me. Benezia became renegade because of Saren's/Sovereign's mind control. I really want to see Aethyta have a good role in ME3. Hell I want Aethyta as bartender on the normandy.
Flamewielder wrote...
Actually, she
explicitely states that the Code allows romantic involvement,
presumably as long as it doesn't interfere with the Justicar's duty.
Justicars only forswear family (children) and earthly possessions
(required to raise children). To which, in Samara's case, you can add
the fear of giving birth to another Ardat-Yakshi.
Asari
essentially do not require birth control in the conventional sense. No
DNA is exchanged, only mental imprints of both parents that may
influence the child's personality in later life, or not (see Aethyta).
So Samara could develop a life-long romantic bond with a compatible
(paragon) Shepard, she just cannot have a family.
So there's hope yet for both Shepard and Samara... That observation deck may yet see sweet lovin' under the stars! ../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png
I wasn't suggesting romantic involvment violated the code. I was saying that she was intentionally devoted to the code to the exclusion of all else.
I thought Ardat-Yakshi only came from pureblood unions?
Also, If she swore off being a justicar then its possible for love a renagade without having to try to kill shep. Although, a relationship with a renagade would seem highly out of character even if she abandonded the code.

So, over on the Jack thread, we're discussing this advertisement on the Citadel that somehow knows who you're romancing and mentions them in the copy. It's for a biotic amp called Sophist, and at one point the ad reader says something about your LI to the effect of "...the next time you're out on the town with *INSERT THEIR NAME HERE*"
Well, we were all amused when you romance Jack and it says, "...the next time you're out on the town with CITIZEN ID FILE NOT FOUND..." and somebody said they heard the same thing with Miranda. Well, I had heard "Miss Lawson" used on that ad in one of my games, and I was bored, so I went to the trouble of extracting the advertisement audio to see what I could find.
Here are the potential options:
"...the next time you're out on the town with Ser Krios..."
"...the next time you're out on the town with CITIZEN ID FILE NOT FOUND..."
"...the next time you're out on the town with Miss Zorah..."
"...the next time you're out on the town with Officer Vakarian..."
"...the next time you're out on the town with Mister Taylor..."
"...the next time you're out on the town with Miss Lawson..."
"...the next time you're out on the town with Justicar Samara..."
Makes me wonder if there wasn't something more planned for Samara at some point. Or if this is just something that plays if you try to romance Samara and don't go after anybody else. Either way, it took me by surprise.
EDIT: Okay, mystery somewhat solved. Somebody on the Jack thread cleared me up on that ad: it doesn't psychically figure out who you're romancing, it just picks one of the eligible members of the opposite sex that you're walking around with and assumes the two of you are knocking boots. Still, somewhat interesting that the game sees Samara as "eligible."

Still notable, since there's no line for Mordin, Zaeed, or any of the other characters you don't get a whiff of romance with. Interesting find! I wonder if it still says Justicar Samara if you took Morinth?BobbyTheI wrote...

Also, that means Justicar Samara is an equivalent form of address to Mr. Taylor or Miss Lawson, meaning Samara has no last name (or no first name, if you want to get into 'well, technically' territory). Think she dropped it when she joined the justicars?

However, it should only come after a long and meaningful plotline with huge build-up, and a lovemaking scene (NOT a sex scene, there's a big difference between having sex and making love) would only occur once, as a culmination of that relationship been built up, and maybe it could be like a "parting gift" of sorts, like knowing they will never see each other again, or something.
I think the only way to do justice to the particular character through a lovemaking scene would be to make Samara the protagonist and Shepard the squad-mate, in a way - And no moaning and feeling her up, at the most they touch each others faces and hands. It should be more like a religious experience for Shepard in a way, more "platonic" than obviously carnal.
Maybe instead of her eyes changing, she in her entirety would glow and her eyes remain normal - And Shepard could cry in the scene. For once, Shepard is weak...

Interesting in that it could be a hint for some kind of reaction/continuation in ME3 if you try to romance her in ME2. Since the 'official' LI's will/should continue into ME3, and she's listed among them there.
Ah, one can hope can't they?

-That depends. Was Liara your love interest and you tried to cheat on her with Samara? If so I don’t think Shepard would have a prayer. Geth, just target practice. Collectors, just pest control. Reapers, no problem. Against two Asari scorned, no chance in hell.DirtyVagrant wrote...

just like any meeting between an Asari and a Justicar... Liara would be instantly both respectful and wary (she is being rather unethical as an information broker after all).
I also imagine that if Shep romanced Liara, she'd also be jealous that Shep had moved on to another Asari lover... (though we know even if he/she wanted to, it wouldn't happen)... one significantly more powerful than Liara herself, and possessed of much more in common with Shep (especially a ParagonShep).

Using my Shepard's logic from who Liara was in ME1 - "She died, replaced by someone I don't know nor do I want to." But by then she was already head-over-heels for our favourite space-paladin *cough* Justicar.

She's very interesting as a character, I like her eyes, her smile and her voice. Furthermore, her past story is original and really good. Hope she "looks for me" in ME3, as she said to me. And hope she's still a crew member to stop the collectors.

Just to stay on the safe side, maybe its best Liara and Samara didn't meet.
Curious wondering, after going through a few polls on the subject and noting various topics. If Samara was made an LI for ME3, and if whatever romance your Shepard was in at the very end had a conclusion; my thoughts don't go to the image of settling down. More like, Shepard fighting alongside Samara, but following her actions instead.
Shepard can just wear a recon hood to remain faceless if need be. "Black Angel" by Samara's side.
*cough*I-use-the-word-'angel'-because-I-always-play-a-female-shepard*cough* "Black" because of black armour of course.
Anyone elses thoughts? I'm curious to know.
