It seems the main new thing ME writers added is the Third Oath which allows for overrule of The Code. Can anyone extrapolate from this where Samara's story could go, or do you think the writers will have to do more fabrication of lore (I would prefer the latter)? I like the use of the knight errant model, because it seems getting to know one is very rewarding, as we have come to find.

The first thing I see is a potential for Samara to stick around with Shepard to help him directly with the Reapers.

One thing on that list that intrigued me is that the Knight Errant can sometimes be the Villain, or He Who Fights Monsters.  I wonder if Samara would ever come to the point where, in order to deal with a significant threat to innocent lives, she would endanger or sacrifice her relationship with Shepard.  By this, I mean she would indicate that she is willing to do something to uphold the Code that a Paragon Shepard would find to be unforgivable in his moral convictions.  We could thus see her struggling with her dedication to the Code in a fair and non-degrading way.

Hmm, I originally saw potential for Samara as a villain type to a Renegade Shep, because of course she would strike down on you if you are to cross paths again. But yea a Paragon could face some difficulties, because a Paragon and a Justcar do not align perfectly as we have noted. It would be interesting if for the next installment, Samara chooses to follow you but says she cannot swear the third oath because you can only swear it once (retcon up the wazoo), or maybe its too abusive of the Code to do so. Then the relationship can be about Samara and Shepard having some friction between each other and learning to co-exists somehow. Very difficult to write for, but screw the excuses, they gotta find some angle dammit!

For those interested, Ch. 17 of my story is up.

http://www.fanfictio..._Saves_the_Hero

Hopefully the last part of it makes sense, if it doesn't that's what I get or trying to write complicated dialogue past my bedtime :)

Edit: I do go into the Code in a few parts.  Hopefully it sounds reasonable, and IC for Samara.

I have been wondering if you have been writing any lately.  I'll have to check it out.

Mass effect fields could be used to turn melee weapons in to weightless, mass-less, frictionless velocity weapons.  But why wield it in one's hands and risk getting up close, when you could just wield the blade with one's mind, instead?  It'd be like an Animated Weapon.  Samara's biotic abilities are probably great enough that she could wield a blade with her mind while using her assault rifle.  The only issue would be shields, which activate when an object traveling at or above a certain speed approaches them, so a biotic wouldn't be able to accelerate the velocity of a melee weapon.

All of this would tip the balance of science-fiction and fantasy in the ME setting in to fantasy territory, though   Animated, dancing weapons is the purview of D&D.

1) Not everyone in the ME universe is a biotic, indeed aside from the Asari, biotics tend to be extremely rare in most other sapient species.

2) Any weapon/ability - be it a knife to biotic powers - is only as effective as the wielder is proficient with it. If a non-biotic were to sneak up on a biotic with a knife/dagger and catch said biotic unaware then no amount of biotic power in the universe would stop the lethal effects of said biotic having his/her throat ripped out by the sharp, thrusting insertion of a pointed blade followed by a tearing motion.

3) Shields could be an issue, yet it is my understanding that based upon written material for the ME universe, that they are overlapping fields and thus prone to weak points and/or even small exposed areas between the energy shields which could be exploited..

I thought Samara was a really interesting character concept to apply to a space opera setting, but I've played too many RPGs with Lawful Stupid paladins to actually trust her to have my back.

Uh, okay?  I think you missed entirely the point(s) I was trying to make, so I'm just going to respond with an amused smiley: :D

She took an oath to follow your orders. By her own code she has no choice but to have your back. Just make sure not to be on the same planet when she releases her oath if  you've been a bad boy

I made it a point to let her die on my Renegade playthrough. If anybody disrupts her code, it's a death sentence for them. Even Paragon-Shep should consider that doing the universe a favor.

We really don't know enough about the code to draw that sort of conclusion.

Really? She pretty much explicitly states that the only redemption is in death if anybody violates her code. She even kills a merc who was clearly surrendering right when you first run into her, what more do you need?

The merc was threatening her with a pistol...and when offered a "last chance" told Samara to "Go to Hell."

Exactly when did she surrender...?

On a seperate note: Kudara! I love you! *sends love and cookies*
