Activity is super slow today, i've been trying to come up with a topic but we have gone over everything that comes to mind when it comes to Samara.
I know! We've gone over the nuances of Samara's character so much.
Do you think her unfaltering composure, her reserved nature, and her and black-and-white morals actually restrict the richness of her character? If Samara was just an Asari Commando, or a cop, or a Spectre, do you think there would be more or less to talk about?
Lets take it a step further shall we. What if the one which we call Samara............was a male?
Would ya treat her the same, would ya still be runnin the game? ;D
ps. (don't take this topic seriously, unless you really want to or sommit...)
I wondered if there were Asari males, because according to Bioware's ME 2 website there are females so that means there must be males................................... Or Are there!?

retcon = retroactive continuity
essentially changing of the parameters of the fiction after the fact it has been established. its not something contradictory, but not really something that had a basis in the earlier fictional universe as it was

I think the reason Bioware considers the Asari to be all-female is because species that reproduce through parthenogenesis are considered to be "female" by default, unless they use a different, specific set of chromosomes, in which they would be considered to be all "male". We don't know which set of chromosomes they use, because Asari genetics confound you!
hmm
This sheds a bit of light on the subject. I don't recall hearing about parthenogenesis before.

in all seriousness, the original reason I brought up the Samara male thing was to try and get to the root of what we like about Samara. But realized that our admiration for her is fundamentally tied to the essence of the Asari race. I think by seeing the Asari in the first game as they were allowed us to appreciate Samara more in this game. If this were the first game in the series and we got Samara, I might not be as drawn perhaps. I needed to see this type of character in the context of a race that I found most intriguing in the first game. Samara doesn't really represent the pinnacle of the Asari as much as she represents their elegance in an empowering form. That is what she is really about.
