Hey you know what I was thinking concerning Asari? They may be depiction of a form of Darwinian natural selection that favors survival for those most suited for their environment according to their "assets". Asari selection favored the appropriate desirable physical traits, and through thousands of years of evolution (much much more than humans) it would explain their near universal attractiveness. Not saying that the goal of evolution is to leave the most attractive in the end, but its probably that kind of twisted interpretation that led to the writers making them all so purrdy ;D Cause they've had substantially more years to evolve and advance than any other race.

Thoughts? Comments? Bueller?

True, a species that requires a diffrent species to evolve as some asari put it would have to develop some sort of universal attractivness.

To me, the Asari make little sense in the ME universe.  They do however make a lot of sense for what I believe is the main reason that they were created with their characterisics by Bioware.

I'll touch on the former one and disregard the latter.
Beats the hell out of me!  Ha ha ha.  lol

@7Makaveli,

Those are some dubious claims. You make it seem as if evolution itself knows what "pretty", "attractive", and "sexy" are. Those're aesthetics. Aesthetics are decided by values. That borders on intelligent design and creationism. Don't fall in to those pitfalls!

I've believe I've already considered that...

"Not saying that the goal of evolution is to leave the most attractive in the end, but its probably that kind of twisted interpretation that led to the writers"

Basically I was just hypothesizing what may have led the writers to do what they did...albeit in a half-hearted way but I still stand by it.

How Darwinian and impersonal of you york.  Your discounting the facts again.

Eh.  I'm still going to go with the "the Asari are the staple hot alien chicks essential to the science-fiction genre" route.

At the least, Mordin tells us that the Asari have pheromones that allow them to trigger sexual desire in someone.  That doesn't amount to the highly-idiotic theory of Asari mind-control, but it does allow them to be universally attractive/desirable.

Hanar don't seem to have nostrils, though, but they do have nervous systems, so unless Bioware retcons incapability between Asari and Hanar in to ME3, or Hanar can absorb the pheromones through their skin, Bioware's got some 'splainin' to do.

(That's not entirely fair.  I'm with the other Liarasexuals - We think the Asari go for the beauty of the person's mind first, and their body only second.)

I have read statements of people claiming that the Asari have a dark side also. Or so they seemed to get that impression on Illium at least. Subtle, yet obvious. That poster also called the Asari "classic narcissists". I suppose this argument can be made outside of " the Asari are the staple hot alien chicks essential to the science-fiction genre".

"classic narcissists"?  Because they advertise beauty-enhancing products?  Please.  Vanity is not Asari-specific.

I am going see if I can find that thread.  I was reading through it last night.  It wasn't specifically about the Asari.  It just came up.  The thread actually was a pretty good read.

The Asari have a darkside,
it's just that we only hear about it in passing. They're spying,
manipulating, biggoted, shallow narcissists. Illium hints at a lot of
this.

If that were true, they
wouldn't be using slavery. Asari are classic narcissists, relying on sex
and charm.

I wish you could call bluff on the whole "Asari
Commando" thing. Few people have seen them because Asari are crappy
fighters and would rather be having a facial and ordering their slaves
around.

Nothing profound or unique being said there.  In fact, everything that's said right there is evidence that the Asari aren't Mary-Sues, and are flawed, and that Bioware did do a good job at making the Asari appear to have just as many problems as every other species in the galaxy.

I am not impressed.

That is a good point.

Well, I brought it up as something to discuss.  I also created a thread on it in the private group, but you may not have noticed it, or just disregarded.  So I brought it here.:P

As requisite hot alien babes go, the asari are really the best example out there. Star Trek has the Orion, who are little more than an afterthought, Star Wars has the Twi'Leks, none of whom are really important characters in the movies, and I can't think of any other sci-fi races that exist to celebrate the female form in alien guise. The asari at least have some thought behind them, and their reproductive method seems to very advantageous. Imagine being able to have a child with literally anyone, regardless of species, and every member of your own species is a potential mate that can assume the role of either parent. Gender politics would be unknown among the asari, so all the effort other species waste on such things would be used for other things among asari. Like becoming the dominant species in their half of the galaxy.
