Hey you know what I was thinking concerning Asari? They may be depiction of a form of Darwinian natural selection that favors survival for those most suited for their environment according to their "assets". Asari selection favored the appropriate desirable physical traits, and through thousands of years of evolution (much much more than humans) it would explain their near universal attractiveness. Not saying that the goal of evolution is to leave the most attractive in the end, but its probably that kind of twisted interpretation that led to the writers making them all so purrdy ;D Cause they've had substantially more years to evolve and advance than any other race.
Thoughts? Comments? Bueller?

To me, the Asari make little sense in the ME universe. They do however make a lot of sense for what I believe is the main reason that they were created with their characterisics by Bioware.7Makaveli wrote...

How Darwinian and impersonal of you york. Your discounting the facts again.yorkj86 wrote...
@7Makaveli,
Those are some dubious claims. You make it seem as if evolution itself knows what "pretty", "attractive", and "sexy" are. Those're aesthetics. Aesthetics are decided by values. That borders on intelligent design and creationism. Don't fall in to those pitfalls!

I have read statements of people claiming that the Asari have a dark side also. Or so they seemed to get that impression on Illium at least. Subtle, yet obvious. That poster also called the Asari "classic narcissists". I suppose this argument can be made outside of " the Asari are the staple hot alien chicks essential to the science-fiction genre".

I am going see if I can find that thread. I was reading through it last night. It wasn't specifically about the Asari. It just came up. The thread actually was a pretty good read.yorkj86 wrote...

"classic narcissists"? Because they advertise beauty-enhancing products? Please. Vanity is not Asari-specific.

call the Asari race Mary Sues.
it's just that we only hear about it in passing. They're spying,
manipulating, biggoted, shallow narcissists. Illium hints at a lot of
this.

I wish you could call bluff on the whole "Asari
Commando" thing. Few people have seen them because Asari are crappy
fighters and would rather be having a facial and ordering their slaves
around.

That is a good point.yorkj86 wrote...
Nothing profound or unique being said there. In fact, everything that's said right there is evidence that the Asari aren't Mary-Sues, and are flawed, and that Bioware did do a good job at making the Asari appear to have just as many problems as every other species in the galaxy.
I am not impressed.
