I think the predominant asari religion is the pantheistic siari religion. The goddess is from a separate religion, probably one that was once dominant to the asari, but fell by the wayside when they discovered the universe is full of so much more life. "Embrace the goddess" is probably a holdover from such times. Probably like how people say "bless you" after a sneeze, but no one is really trying to actually bless you.

The idea of promiscuity concerning the Asari, is probably to increase game sales.:)

they should put Asari dancers on the cover of ME3 :D

I would seriously boycott tho. The fact that you can even stare at Asari dancers, and then in ME2 "lean over" lol, is kind of creepy. If you're gonna simulate something like that, don't worry about interactivity, worry about making it look good atleast lol.

EDIT: not saying the dancers don't look good, the whole scene doesn't

Asari are presented as Panentheistic, but I always thought them being Esoteric would make more sense.

Thoughts?

EDIT: aside from it relating to mysticism

Actually I think people say "bless you" when one sneezes, in hopes that the sneezer will not blow his brains through his nose.

NICK needs to show up.  He has a BA in religion.  I suppose any alien religion can be interpreted as Esoteric to humans, but I don't know.

I think the asari might come across as esoteric, but I think they're more grounded in scientific reality than one would think. Pantheistic because they believe in an unexplainable force, though.

Err.. Despite what Liara says, I think most maidens are interested in sowing some wild oats when their young. Certainly Samara gives you that idea when she says she killed, mated or simply danced the night away when she was a maiden. And I distinctly remember that one young asari talking about joining the Eclipse who was 60? mentioned the fact that they never lacked bed partners.

I think Liara just waited because she saw it as something intimate and special, which probably is the other side of the norm for Asari much like humans.

You have the wild ones who party hearty through their maidenhood and then you have the more studious serious ones who don't.

yea, I was thinking of the way they meld, in relation to their appreciation of everyone's life force, and how each Asari can potentially have the experiences and knowledge of many other people. And now I can't remember where I was going with that.

So you think Liara is the exception rather than the norm when it comes to Asari promiscuity? Yes, it certainly comes across as that, even if she does try to quell the rumors of maidenhood sexual behavior. I mean its implied at 106 or whatever she was, that she hadn't thought to do the deed. Something which she is apprehensive about. I suppose there's two sides to it too. Even though we get more of the wild Asari in the game, that is just based on context. I mean if you go to space bars you will see dancers, and Asari just have the perfect body type to be dancers (coincidence? I think not :P). I would like to go to more places where you could see disciplined Asari, and I don't just mean Merc bases and psuedo-business like settings. I mean political offices and some of the higher echelon institutions they would have. Basically, I guess if you want to look at the "role-model" Asari, we should go by Councillor Tevos :D

It's no different from humans.  There are those who like to party and be social and sometimes promiscuous, and there are those who'd rather get their education and training behind them so they can set up the rest of their lives.

I'm not entirely convinced that the Asari who choose to strip and do all of that actually join minds during the act.  It's not revealed either way whether or not the...birth canal is similar to the human female birth canal, but if it has the same nerves, then they can be stimulated the same way.  What a sentence.  Anyway, I think this could be the case because we at least have evidence from Liara that the Asari place great value and emotional significance on the mind-joining.

I'm using the one in the 360 forum.  I think what happened is that I had too many squadmates.  Oh well... she is pure alliance at heart (anyone who joins Cerberus gets what they get).

That would be interesting.  The game needs to grow up a little, all the way around.

Post over there and keep plugging away at it.  You'll figure out how to rectify it.  Since I am on pc, I can't help you much myself.

Well, gee, now I wonder which squadmate would accept Shepard's offer of story time. Samara and Zaeed on opposite sides of the room. "Okay, people who want paragon story time on this side of the room. Those looking for renegade story time over there!"
I have this image of Grunt sitting on the floor crosslegged with his hands in his lap, looking up excitedly at Samara as she describes some of her first kills as a mercenary.

Good idea, though I doubt that Samara would let Zaeed be in the same room as her.
Young Grunt would be enthralled by Samaras stories and seek advice for where to go in life from them.
Mordin and Thane would find her stories interesting from a cultural analisys point of wiev and it would remind them about their own younger days.
Garrus and Tali follows Shepard basicaly everywhere. Then again few things can beat beat calibrating and cleaning engines. If it's story time combined with Shepard cuddle, yes definitely.
Gossip junkies Kelly, Joker and Kasumi would not miss such an opportunity to gain knowledge about Samara.
Jack would have trouble to sit stll for longer than a minute.
Somehow I suspect that Samaras cleavage would be enough for Jacob. Okay probably not, sorry Jacob.
Miranda doesn't have time for such trivial things as stories.
Legion and EDI would collect information about confusing organic behaviour.
Doctor Chackwas would use it as a exuse to drink.

I sooo much wan't a Samara story time DLC!

I made all my squadmates useful in fights.  Samara got a Katana.  Grunt got a Revenant LMG and a Claymore.  Miranda, Jacob and Jack got Vindicators.  Thane got a Widow Sniper Rifle.  Tali got a SMG (because she isn't cool enough to hang with team Awesome).  Legion didn't get anything other than normal (he looks best with a Widow and GPR).

Crap... the suicide mission is ready for launch.  I need to restart the game.  That will have to be the fastest I've played through ME.  1 and a half hours.

Yeh, I mean there's only so many cool space bars you can go to...but I don't doubt there gonna come up with a new flashy bar in ME3, it seems to be a staple of the games now. Atleast this one housed a hedonistic Asari dictator :D

@York: yeh, the dancers are more exhibitionists than anything. maybe in the back of their minds they are thinking how silly these people must be to be attracted only physically to me, when mentally I am so much more. Certainly pride comes into it too. But you can't give them a "Stripper with a Heart of Gold" label either lol, cause some of them probably don't know any better.

Samara: Today, I would like to tell you about the time I fought Nihlus Kryik.

Grunt: I bet you bashed his brains out you did

Samara: ehh, not exactly

Thane: Gave him a sneak attack did you?

Samara: Not quite

Jack: Hijacked his ship and ran him over?

Samara: Sorry, no

Kasumi: Did you sleep with him :D?

Samara: Excuse me?

Garrus: You must have savored the last shot

Samara: I didn't get there

Jacob: Well, I'm sure whatever you did with him it was worth the risk

Samara: Something like that

Miranda: Go on Samara, tell us how you beat him

Samara: Well....I didn't

*everyone leaves disappointed except Legion*

Legion: Samara-Justicar, we have a new found respect for your humility

Samara: ^_^

Exactly, by going into bars you're sorta selecting for well... the same type you find in bars on Earth probably.  If you want to find the other type of young asari their probably in the bar occasionally hanging out with their friends after work, but their certainly not there every night.

PS Mind you I have nothing at all against bars.   Twentyish years ago I fell into both groups, I was studious and then I got out of college and had many different and interesting life experiences.  So I can definately understand where Samara is comming from when she talks about it and I can understand Liara's pov as well.  ;)
