I wonder if Samara would have a hard time being taken seriously as a Matriarch, having given birth to three Ardat-Yakshi. That means she defied the social stigma against mating with another Asari (and good for her).
Ardat-Yakshi come from an Asari Pureblood mothers but that doesn't mean they are purebloods.
Ok, I'm often confused by this so lemme just get this clear.
PB=PUREBLOOD
PB-NORMAL --------- PB-NORMAL
I
I
I
PB-NORMAL (AY GENE CARRIER) ------------------------------- NORMAL
I
I
I
ARDAT-YAKSHI
is this how it works?

I think that the AY gene itself is expressed regardless of pureblood parents or not and just by chance. Its the mating of that person with another pureblood that produces AY's
can we leave it at that?
EDIT: some major ones

Make a caption with Shepard and Samara in it that says.... I don't need a heavy weapon. I have Samara.
I picture Shepard balancing Samara on his shoulder like he would a shoulder-mounted rocket-launcher. She is holding her body streamlined and rigid, and she has one of her arms outstretched as she uses Reave.
hahaha I want this to happen!! =D
Shepard: Wow there's alot of mercs here *looks over* you know the drill Samara
Samara: Shepard, you know I consider this highly innapropriate
Shepard: I know, but still *holds up Third Oath contract*

Only an Asari that is a pureblood can have an AY child. If the Asari has the gene to make the child than the any child the Asari has will be an AY regardless if they are from a Asari/Asari mating or an Asari/Alien mating.

"Samara, a pureblood herself, states that the condition is as old as the asari species, and that it appears much more frequently in the daughters of purebloods." (http://masseffect.wi...ki/Ardat-Yakshi)
Notice "much more frequently". It is still possible for the product of an Asari-Non-Asari mating to produce an AY+ child.

Actually she states the AY gene only appears in Asari purebloods.

It seems that way...this then wouldn't give much credence to the pure-blood phobia.

Can you quote the exact line, please?

Can't find Samara's normandy dialogue on youtube but when I get to that point in the game next time I will try to remember. Also... there are asari on Illium who say that purebloods are a waist of genetic potential and that is how they get throwbacks like the Ardat-Yakshi.

It certainly limits us when discussing the Asari. We have about a paragraph's worth of real useful information and the rest is speculation.yorkj86 wrote...
Asari genetics don't make sense, and Bioware tried to create something canonical out of nonsense. It didn't turn out well.jlb524 wrote...

I never thought of the "Purblood Stigma" angle, but your right. There is quite a few inconsistencies in the game. The Quarians and their immunity issues don't match up either from what I recall from an earlier thread.yorkj86 wrote...

The Asari are also an extremely advanced, spacefaring species with FTLT who somehow haven't figured out how their own genetics work. ("****ing Asari genetics, how do they work?")
What exists about Asari genetics that is canon doesn't make sense, and makes the Asari look like idiots for having a stigma against Purebloods.
