Ashira is too cool. Given the none-too-flattering reputation MW2 players have earned for themselves, it's nice to see one can also appreciate a complicated character like Samara.

EDIT: I wish I could play Alpha Protocol, but I have to do this work :crying:

I wouldn't know about the none-too-flattering Rep, I assume they're generally total pissants? Wouldn't surprise me. :(

But thank you for calling me cool :o And...*hugs York*

Ah Yes, MW2. That game had the amazing ability to enrage me when i am stoned out of my mind (which is a quite difficult accomplishment) So i sold it.Image IPB

Back to MAss Effect, i wish there were more Male Shepard hair options, i can never make a realistic character because my hair is longer than all of the hair styles (Femsheps included).

No fancy hair for Shepard. We don't want the Asari getting any funny ideas with wearing wigs.

I officialy hate barrier. On Insanity it is so quickly stripped that there is no need in having it. I'm sticking with energy drain for my adept.

Try Improved Geth Shield and see how that works.  At least It gives you a 10% weapons damage bonus.

I'm good.  I wanted to try out barrier (hated it).  Energy drain takes care of shields.  I usually curve my powers around objects and don't take cover (it's the true secret to playing and adept).

I did a quick run through of a mission in ME1 the other day to check on something. It had been awhile since I'd played the game with a sniper rifle. I had forgotten how incredibly easy it was to shoot from the hip with that thing, as opposed to trying to line up that perfect headshot. Luckily, all the enemy snipers in ME1 like to use the red laser sights.

Just put that 500% weapons (concusion) force upgrade in it.  You don't have to aim.  Just point it at the ground and fire (it knocks everyone down).  It's perfect for when you are surrounded.  You don't even half to spec with a sniper rifle for it.  It works with the shotty as well.

Totally off topic, but I have to ask this while I am thinking about it.

Does anyone notice that whenever you cross that bridge on Zaeed's loyalty mission, that there is what sounds like a lone gunshot or small explosion in the background?  It just doesn't fit, so it seems to me.

There are a lot of sound bugs like that, probably the most hilarious of which is the sound of a gun being loaded if you reject your love-interest during his/her final romance scene.   I haven't experienced that particular bug, though, no.

That one on the bridge happens every time in my install.

What about Samara's recruitment?  This one happens to me every time as well.  It happens right after killing those mercs and mechs prior entering the door to Samara's initial cutscene.  One of the Asari eclipse sisters continues to speak, even though they have all been killed.

The PC-version of the game has received one patch that fixed practically nothing. Jarrahe Station still crashes my game. The X-Box version still has its audio cut out during the confrontation between Samara and Morinth. They're releasing (paid) DLC, but no patches.

"Without getting into too much detail, asari are considered female because:

1) They produce the equivalent of egg cells - cells that contain genetic material which can develop into a new independant organism. How they use them is a bit weird from the human point of view.

2) They possess the equivalent of a womb - a place where "activated" egg cells develop within them.

3) From the human point of view, they have a host of secondary sexual characteristics associated with femaleness (mammary glands, distribution of fats, higher pitched voice, etc.)

It's open to debate whether or not a species can truly be "female" (or "male") when they are monogendered. For the purposes of classification by multi-gendered species, who are the majority in the galaxy, the asari clearly fill a female niche.

The codex is not written from human or Spectre/galactic point of view (save one or two entries which deal with topics only the player knows about). It's supposed to be an objective encyclopedia, presenting topics in a neutral tone. The hope was that the background material Shepard would know growing up in the world would be presented tot the player in a way that allows you to make your own judgements on whether "X" is good or bad.

Just thought I would post the info in here.  ME2 has been released since this comment, so I don't know what they have changed, or what they have stated since then that would contradict this.

Ha, its a small world? I remember that thread a longgggg while back when I lurked a bit. I'll dig up more stuff if I can I recall it. Everybody back then were interested in Blue Skinned spaces babes. Fun discussions.

I don't think they consider it a priority. ME1 only had two patches released I believe. I am not surprised that they are dragging their feet with ME2 as well.

I would like to see a drawing of a group of Asari Justicars together. All of them with different and distinct outfits on. Perhaps even a couple of them with swords and/or heavy weapons.

EDIT: whoa on a serious note, there is some connection to watchmen (chaotic good protectors) and justicars (neutral good protectors) we can discuss

I didn't like Samara much on my first 2 playthroughs, but on my third when playing Fem-Shep, I started noticing her pain more of having nothing more to live for but the code, after killing her daughter. I didn't want her to waste her life like that. I wished there was a way to truly free her.

This is an interesting point, and one that got passed over.  You did free her, you helped her complete the unbearable task of killing her daughter.  Outliving one's child is nothing a parent should ever experience, neither is seeing one's child die, and neither is having to kill one's child.  Samara seems resolute about her tasks as a Justicar, even after Morinth is dead, though.  Come to think of it, imagine if Shepard approaches Samara about a relationship in ME2, and she turns him down, and in ME3, the romance is not continued.  Samara would have a new pain - the pain of uncertainty, of not knowing if she did the right thing in turning Shepard down, when she was clearly impressed by him.  She even stated that she thinks she could find happiness with him.  That makes me feel worse about approaching her in ME2.

Your point brings up another point:

Do we think that Samara thinks that devoting her life to being a Justicar is some kind of penance for releasing three Ardat-Yakshi on the world?  If so, do we think that her reasoning for this only became stronger when she knew that Morinth was out there, killing to satisfy her urge?

If you use area reave on the low crates on Horizon where you fight the two scions or on Illium when you fight the gunship then you can run at them (because they won't break when you use reave on them) at just the right angle and go into cover, melee the crate or go into cover and immediately melee then you will be thrown into ragdoll.  If you hit it just right it will throw you off the map.  I spent the evening touring Illium that way (but Horizon you just fall for 15 seconds and then die).

Well, I was going to say that I've thought this all along. Main reasons being her reaction when you question why she became a Justicar and the fact that her main objective is to kill Morinth. Others may argue that she became a Justicar because it fits her personality but I tend to think that Asari are loosely connected consciousness that change over time due to many experiences. When her dreams of raising a family were crushed she was forced to take action. The only response she saw fit to a massive horror was aligning herself to the most noblest individuals in her civilization.

there was more I had to say, and it wsa much better worded, but that is the gist of it....
