I just had the conversation with her, in which she talks about some of her adventures as a Justicar and as a mercenary. In the beginning, when she tells you how she thought she had experienced all there is to experience in the universe... She throws a couple of very warm smiles at Shepard during those few sentences. Really nice to see. Maybe even more so because she transforms so smoothly back to her serious self afterwards.AKFTF wrote...
I've read the pages I missed and would like to comment on a conversation you guys were having earler-about Samara smiling. I can't help but smile myself when she smiles. It felt good to see her be happy for once. Here is a woman who stays calm and collected at all times; to finally get a reaction from her is quite fulfilling.
I've done every romance in each game and none have felt so natural and special, as the "half-romance" with her.

And regarding her setting, I think it was definitely the best of all the characters; the starry background really resonated well with her meaning, cold, vast and mysterious. She was also the only character, in my eyes, doing something interesting instead of just sitting there without anything to say.

I was just a little surprised. Usually whenever Shep uses a paragon line, he/she doesn't get that type of exchange and reaction. Samara is strong and proud and only wants his/her understanding, not sympathy. The exchange seems to offer a very discernible contrast to Tali's character.AKFTF wrote...

I can't give it verbatim, but I think it is when you first talk to her about Morinth and her loyalty quest. If you pick the top right in the dialog wheel, Shep will say "Oh I'm so sorry" and Samara will say "No I don't want your pity".AKFTF wrote...

There are so many things we could talk about with Samara. She is really an invaluable team mate for advice. I always feel like ME2 didn't provide enough dialogue with her.
Exactly, i hated how first of all you don't get her until half way through the game, then even though her dialouge was the best in the game i personally felt it wasn't enough, i mean if i recall correctly your last conversation with her is the "almost kiss".
A bit too much of a cliffhanger for me to end on that conversation.

Just a small observation I've made: when she sits on the floor she keeps her back straight. Not an easy thing to do...I've tried.Whatcote Park wrote...

Edit: @BlackMetal
I thought it was cool how she left the room in the cutscene, and then she isn't in her room when it's over. A small detail, but nice nonetheless. Question: How do you get her to tell you that she is willing to help you after the suicide mission? I try to talk to her, but she says I did the right thing by destroying the base and that's it.

That reaction surprised me, but it's one of the charms of the dialogue system I think. Some answers may be paragon, but that doesn't mean everybody will instantly like you for it. And in the end I think it was logical for her to behave that way, don't wanting any pity. After 400 years of dealing with it alone, it was already a huge step for her to ask for your help, to confide in Shepard about the nature of the person she hunted and eventually Samara's relationship with Morinth. So that "I don't want your pity"... hey, maybe she really meant it, but I think it was primarily a way of keeping Shepard at the distance she needed at that moment.JohnnyDollar wrote...

You make a good point. She has been dealing with the problem herself for hundreds of years and confides in Shepard that he/she is the only person Samara could imagine asking for help. In the end she still needs some time alone to fully get over the situation.Rikketik wrote...

That's the reason i think the planned a Samara romance all along, they just didn't put it in ME 2 because the whole thing would just not seem right if you romanced her right away because of her needing time.
I don't think you'll be able to romance her until the very end of ME 3.

You can proposition her for casual sex during the "almost romance", which is... really ballsy and weird. Not done it myself, it seems too out of place for me, but I have seen a video of someone doing that dialogue option and she quite rightly turns Shepard down.

Seriously though, I am sure we could get her in a romance scene, but probably not her voice. So nevermind....AshiraShepard wrote...

The ending of her "almost romance" is interesting in that she leaves the room. Its almost like she knew if she stayed longer she would have given in to her feelings. Even with how strong she is she still needs to remove herself from the situation to maintain control of herself. I honestly thought that it wasn't over at that point, so when I found her in the crew's quarters I was a little disappointed you couldn't continue the conversation. I wonder if there was something in place for that particular scene that they cut out.

I didn't know that she could be found in the crew's quarters after that. Huh. Well, there is no bed in the Observation Deck, unless Samara sleeps on the couches in there. She probably has a bunk in the crew's quarters (though there don't seem to be nearly enough beds for the whole crew). She tells us that Justicars have little else other than their armor and their weapons. It sounds like she went there to distance herself from Shepard, not because she's creeped out, but because she needs to regain composure. She was so close to betraying everything that gives her the ability to continue on as she does. In fact, your Shepard probably made things even worse for her by following her, from a roleplaying perspective
If Bioware goes the DA:O route by showing the fate of the different characters by giving them each their own summary screen at the end of the game, it would be nice if there was one for Samara and Shepard, if Shepard had no ME1 love-interest, and expressed his interest for Samara in ME2. Some small trigger in ME3 would trigger the summary screen, stating that Samara and Shepard continued their duties at each other's side, and continue to do so long after the events of ME3. There would be no mention of children, or settling down, just a mutual, distant and endearing attraction to one another.
(I hope Shepard would at least be able to steal a kiss from her every so often, though. Imagine being able to look in to these beauties while kissing.)

yea all she says in the crew's quarters while staring out the window is "please...". Then she returns to the observation deck after an elevator ride. It was somewhat sad to see her that way, probably the one act she does that showed a little weakness, some realism in her character. She was quite moved, rather then disturbed I believe.

I'm not quite sure. There's a very, very very thin line to walk between romancing her without making her give up everything she holds dear, and romancing her with the unintended side-effect of making her doubt her own fortitude and determination. That's why I'm hesitant to encourage and pursue any romance with Samara. I have no clue where the line is, myself, and I'd be afraid to walk it.
