And he talks about the possibility asari use mind control that makes them seem attractive to all species. The bachelor party at illium is gaining more credibility every day.

What type of mind-control?    That's absolutely pants-on-head idiotic if he's taking that seriously.   Just think of the logistics.  Anyone can see it makes no sense.

It wasn't very important so I forgot some of the details, but it was just speculation in Grayson's mind. Probably a nod to the bachelor party on illium.

We know they use pheromones to cause sexual arousal.  That would make them attractive.  I guess that could qualify as weak mind-control, but only for people who are slaves to sexual urges.   If he's playing at the fact that the asari are actually all hideous, acid-spewing tentacle-beasts without their mind-control, I'd toss the book in the trash.

I love how I'm getting PM's about the book. I need to get these spoilers of my chest... they are just to mind blowing.

Uh-oh.  Did they kill off a squadmate in the canon?

Might not be very insightful, but a friend recommended it to me once, saying its more Fable than KOTOR though. If anything you'd get bang for the buck for it at this point.

While at it, has anyone played "Limbo" yet? I might just get it :D

In Retribution they went with the "council dies, new council, udina becomes human councilor. At least the turian councilor is replaced with someone who is more of an Anderson :wizard:

That stinks.  How will they explain that in ME3, if players chose to save the Council in ME1?  How will they explain that in ME3, if players chose Anderson to become Councilor in ME1?  Does this mean that, no matter what, Shepard will not have the support of his alien bros in ME3?  Killing off the Council can be justified as pro-human sentiment.  "Default" Shepard has choices that the game would consider to be Renegade.  Does this mean that there is now a "canon" Shepard?  Does this mean that the "canon" Shepard is Renegade?

I'm actually angry now.  The series' critics have always called Bioware on their failure to follow-through on the company's promises that the player's actions will effect the story.  Now, it's the opposite - Bioware is making choices for the player.  Very bad form, Bioware.

Also, now that I think about it, doesn't the canonical death of the original Council constitute a retcon? Doesn't that retcon remove some of the significance of ME2? Doesn't that retcon mean that the company is going back on its attempts to allow the player's choices to effect the story?

Don't forget there was a neutral response that ended in the council death, so that leads me to believe canon shep is neutral. I tried to figure out how it would work if you saved the council and made Anderson councilor while I took a break from reading.

The best I could come up with was: *SPOILERS*
TIM still goes after grayson and grayson still gets the message to kahlee. Kahlee goes to anderson and anderson puts udina in charge for a while, which would be common for him since he said Udina did a lot of the things he didn't want to. The next part is the trickiest. Would the "ah yes, reapers" councilor still help Anderson? Cerberus is a threat to the hierarchy so it is very possible.

I'm not done with the book yet so I will edit it when I come across more canonized parts.

Alien council dies? Human council takes over, alien population is repressed.

Very bad! :<

Not happy out of spite, just recognized a simple pattern that developed with the ME council, and now its been confirmed: The Government

The governing body was simply inept. Its not a totally left field way for the story to go, its very plausible actually. I refuse to look at it through metagaming wise, in terms of what the council should be capable of providing. Fact is, they aren't capable nor interested apparently. Although I will miss Tevos : (

Edit: I also don't think that killing the council signals a "humans are on the pedestal" movement in and of itself, it just puts them on an even playing field where new alliances can be formed.

It sound as if, in trying to remain "neutral", they're telling Paragons to get lost.  Also, they're establishing canon, which restricts the player's abilities to make choices.  It undoes the player's choices.  Is it the same as Bioware saying, "Here, you did it wrong.  Now, here's the right way to do it"?  Sounds like it to me.

I blame Bioware for making the alien council seem inept :(

I'm agreeing with York on this one.

I will miss the turian concilor (the name escapes me at the moment), I wanted to pose his hands in quotation marks and have them as trophies in shep's cabin

It is not out of the realm of possibility that Shepard will also come into conflict with the new human council, in their agenda to push human superiority. Wouldn't it make it a much better story if the Paragon works as the equalizer now? You shatter a base and build a new stronger foundation of leadership, its very possible. I'm not jumping to any conclusions, just speculating like we all are.

EDIT: not really sure if I'm coming off as an "alien hater" or whatever, but I'm far from it. I just don't like inept governments. You take the sacrifices and fix what didn't work before.
