Nice read Guardian, I liked how you portrayed the interaction between Garrus, Samara and his sister. As well as the interaction with the Geth. Certainly those passengers had an exciting tour of the galaxy :)

Indeed. I was thinking about going back and adding more Garrus/Samara/Solana fighting pirates but eh.

No captions? Makaveli and Ashira usually like to caption Samara pictures.   Has everyone gone?  :(

I also have the Bioware Forums version so that those of you who don't have a fanfiction.net account (myself included, I'm using my sister's) can comment.

Samara rules. I love her character and she really is Garrus' foil.

How so?  Do you think that diminishes her character?

I don't think she's intentionally written to be Garrus' foil.  It's already possible to push Garrus toward particular alignments.

I may have the literary definition of foil wrong but as I understand it, a foil character is one that accentuates another, not necessarily contrasting it. They can be similar but aspects are different enough to compliment parts of each other's characters.

Garrus' hatred of injustice and Samara being a justicar, a warrior monk whose sole purpose in life is to root out injustice and kill it with fire, is the comparison I'm talking about.

Hey, Makaveli's around.  How's it going?  I like the captions :D

GuardianAngel, a "foil" is usually a character whose traits somehow complement or enhance the traits of the protagonist.  I guess you could say that Samara is Garrus' foil, but Garrus is also Samara's foil.  Can two characters be foils of one another?

I'm playing through "Fallout: New Vegas" right now.  I won't spoil anything, because some people may not be as far as I am, and some people may not have gotten around to playing at all.  Without saying too much, Samara would be appalled by what Caesar's Legion does.  After I walked in to a certain town, and saw what they did, I thought to myself, "Samara would kill every last one of these bastards."

She would likely be appalled by what I plan to do when I finally get around to playing Fallout 3. I tried several months ago to play it and I didn't like any of the characters so I'll probably just kill them all.

By the way, you should read my story York, it features Samara fairly prominently and kind of expresses how she is Garrus' foil for me. There's some good Samara-Garrus interaction. It's largely the biggest part of it.

The two links in my sig go to it. One links to each chapter here on the Bioware website and the other is on Fanfiction.net. If you don't have a fanfiction.net account I'd appreciate it if you commented on the one here.

That's assuming you read it, but you don't have to.

No pressure.

They sound like my kind of raiders. And I wish I could see more of Samara's code in ME2, or in a DLC perhaps.

Do we think Samara is religious?    In another thread, someone thought that the Justicar Order is a religious one because Samara says "Find peace in the embrace of the goddess", which is an invalid leap in logic.  Samara herself could be religious, or it could just be an expression.

She did equate Justicars with Warrior Monks...most Monks follow a certain religion no? So I can see where they would get that interpretation.

Some parallels with Buddhism, for sure.

I'd like to know when the asari began to practice pantheism over mono(?)theism.  Was it when they met the salarians, a species with binary sexes?    If it was before that, what caused them to switch?  Was it a religious schism, or something else?

I could have sworn that I read on the Cerberus Daily News that some quarians practice Judaism, because the story of the exodus of the Jews resonates closely with their expulsion from Rannoch.   I  can't find that article, though.

That's really cool, HG. I wonder how many people who usually post in this thread contributed to the fundraiser.

Okay, so, a person is maintaining that the Code and the Justicar Order are religious, and/or have religious purpose.  Do we agree, or disagree?

I think that they are secular.  I see little to suggest religiousness, but lots to suggest that they serve a simply secular law enforcement role.

If Samara has anything even remotely approaching a religion (she does mention "the Goddess" to them what she kills, but that could be more for their benefit than hers), it would, IMO, simply be her Code.

I doubt even asari can maintain a high level of fanaticism for 800 - or so years.  It's more likely that she's lived with it for so long that it permeates everything in her character and gives her all of her reasons for living.

By that point, Samara may actually be a living embodiment of the Code - so, in essence, she is her "religion", such as it is.
