I don't know, I hope they will bring them back. I mean look at the hate and discontent over Liara/Ash/Kadian in ME2. I'm not sure they want to risk the wrath of the fans who want their favorite new ME2 character back to join them. I think there may be a few new choices but honestly I'm hoping for very few and more of the squad members I already know and trust.

Well Liara is alive in the dafault AFAIK.  Either Ash or Kaiden is alive in the default depending on Shep's gender.  The default matters because that is what they go by when they design the game.  Everyone in ME2 is killable, so IMO they are dead like Wrex and Ash or Kaiden, depending on Shep's gender in the default.  The council and rachni are dead in the default.  The game has been linear so far.  If Bioware is going to have continuity, then they would have to do some retconning of squadmates in ME2 for them to return as squadmates in ME3 IMO.

People also don't recruit him at all. And that makes him later go to Tuchanka and get killed for his unwelcome ideas of krogan unity.

But you haven't had a boss fight with any of them. Now I can think of three distinct candidates for this:

Liara -Obsessed. Who knows, maybe she'll end up like mom.
Samara - for obvious reasons.
Jack - cause she's, well, a criminal.

What do mean a Bossfight with them?  Give me a scenario.

So far, you basically choose who lives and dies in both ME1 and ME2. But there hasn't been a teammate who goes against you, one you actually have to fight with to continue the narrative.

I thought of this after first meeting Liara in ME2. She seemed so different, that it would be possible you may have to fight her in ME3 cause she's changed so much and there is a conflict of interest.

Yes, it seems playing the Shadow Broker will become unhealthy around Shepard soon.

Also, Ashley/Kaidan seem to be asking for it.

I would say that Liara fits in that scenario pretty good in ME3.  Still though, we have some more DLC coming before ME3.  No one knows what impact on the series the DLC will have.  I suppose a Boss type fight with anyone that is in your save file import into ME3 is not out of the question.  It would be kinda neat to have also.  That would be alot easier I would think for the devs to do versus making them a squadmate for the whole game.

Being a contrarian, I rather think they'll bring them all back by default. Most players will have at least one playthrough where everyone survives (if only to get the achievement). The ME team has set itself a tight schedule for ME3 release. Using the ME2 squadmates models and skins requires little work

ME1 was the first of its kind. Voice actors were relatively cheap, so you could afford not to offer them a retainer to come back for ME2 id ME1 sales were dissappointing. They managed to get most of the important ones, with the exception of Lance Henriksen, who liked the project but was unavailable.

Given ME1's huge success, BW had to be pretty confident ME2 would be a money maker, so signing up big names for voice acting in BOTH ME2 and ME3 is likely (i.e. they probably already negociated a deal for 2 games with the actors). You killed off most of your squad? No problem: you can count on you old ME1 buddies Ash/Kaidan and Liara. Including Shepard, that's a full squad. You don't like it? You want more variety? Use your "No One Left Behind" import. You're a new guy to the franchise? You start off with the full crew by default. Simple, cheap and more importantly: it's the challenge the ME team set themselves to begin with: a games trilogy with recurring characters.

That sounds too convincing...I'll bet you're on the dev team arent you?  :bandit:

Well that is one way of looking at for sure.  I am going by the history of ME1 and ME2.  The question is:  Bring them back in what capacity?  As squadmates or smaller roles?  Let's say I killed 5 of them in my playthrough, then what happens to me when I import into ME3?  Those will not be there?  Which tells me that they wouldn't have a sigificant role (i.e.quadmate) to begin with.  Or are they going to retcon them?  They can always retcon characters and give them a larger role.:D

I'm no dev, so I'm just speculating... Posted Image BUT Casey Hudson already said that if Shepard dies in a ME2 playthrough, then that playthrough not be importable. You'll have to use a playthrough where Shepard survived. If so, nothing prevents a player from importing whatever playthrough he wants, with whatever characters survived.

Like I said, if your favorite playthrough is the one where only Shep survives (may be impossible, you may need at least one loyal survivor to pull you on board in the final scene), you have at least enough characters for a single squad (i.e. Ash/Kaidan + Liara) for ME3. I'm betting most players will simply choose to use their "No One Left Behind" achievement playthrough and bring everyone back. It's just too easy to do.

Yeah it's all specualtion.  In reality Bioware can do whatever they want to.  Especially if they see a way to do it that will generate more sales.;)
