Trivia from the Wiki:  http://masseffect.wi...com/wiki/Samara

  • In Hebrew and Arabic, samara translates as 'guardian' or

'protected by god', making it an appropriate name for a justicar.

  • Samara's armor and jewelry were created with feminine lines
    and
ornate detailing meant to capture her archetypal description of
    "mystic
    warrior".
  • Through conversations, Shepard has the option to
    show a
romantic interest in Samara. She dismisses the advance, but
    notes that
she appreciates the interest nonetheless. This rejection
    is not due to
the Code, which does not forbid such things, but by
    her own choice.
  • Interestingly, the holo-projector on level
    28 of Zakera
Ward that mentions a potential love interest by name if
    they are
present is capable of saying "Justicar Samara", despite
    her not actually
    being a full-fledged romance option.

  • If Shepard is mostly Renegade,
Samara comments that if she wasn't
bound to Shepard by the oath,
their meeting would have ended in
    violence. Otherwise she simply
says that if Shepard makes her do
    something that goes against her
Code, she will kill the Commander after
    their mission is over.

But obviously in terms of gameplay, it wouldn't be feasible to have a squadmate who couldn't fire a gun.

I would like to see it, especially with Samara. The first time I played with her in my squad I remember being surprised she was holding an SMG, for some reason I didn't expect it. Imagine her being an exclusive biotic, throwing people around and firing energy blasts. Would be too strong though...

It would make her out to be an interesting squadmate in terms of gameplay. But with the universe cooldown on powers, she would be standing around or in cover before she could attack again. As opposed to during said wait, she could do some damage to enemies with gunfire.

Samara with no weapon.
Samarah:  *uses reave power* "Embrace Eternity"
Shepard:  "Samara we could use your help".
Samara:  *crouched behind cover*  "Hold on Shepard I am regenerating"
Shepard:  *Falls dead*

That would be a good idea. That way everything would be easy to find. Maybe we should try to contact the OP and ask him or her to do it?

Yes, that would kinda suck (especially for Shepard, as I don't think Cerberus has another 4B creds to bring him back a second time...Image IPB

I think the picture of Samara and guns clashes because they are from different eras. Before the advent of biotic implants, asari already had comparatively strong biotics (at least when compared to humans, who had virtually none). The Justicar Order is ancient, possibly going back to the asari equivalent of Earth's Middle-Ages. Back then, Justicars would have fought with melee weapons (i.e. swords and such) in addition to their natural (i.e. non implant-assisted) biotic abilities. In modern times, no Justicar would be fool enough to bring a knife to a gun fight: it may look cool, but it's inefficient (no wonder Tali never uses hers... I'm beginning to wonder if it's not actually a screwdriver! Image IPB).

The Samurai/Paladin analogy may be more than an illustration, it might actually be historic fact for the asari. The mention of asari children dreaming of becoming a Justicar when they grow up may be rooted in their history more than myth/folklore.

No human samurai or medieval knight ever enjoyed the "magical" powers of a natural biotic (outside of folklore). We enjoy stories of mythical heroes like Sir Gawain, Achilles, Leminkainen... The asari versions may have actually lived for real. Image IPB

Who knows? Should Samara and another Justicar happen to disagree on an interpretation of the Code (a rare occurence, as the Code appears to cover pretty much all situations according to Samara), would they resolve the question in a formal sword duel? A paragon Shepard could be offered the honor of attending as a second or witness... Lot's of great story-telling potential right there...Image IPB

Interesting point, the Samurai/Paladin analogy that is, it would certainly explain Samara's comment that asari children enjoy watching vids of their exploits.  And I suspect your right their order probably goes back tens of thousands of years.

Oooo, yeah.

Could work.

I could see some Shepards going fetal at the thought of choosing.

That was my understanding given Samara's description of Justicars. We can assume the exploits of the vids are somewhat exaggerated for the benefits of the audience... and they would have to be, as unenhanced biotic powers might seem rather bland compared to what modern asari "teens" are used to see in real life. Image IPB

Dan Abnett's character Prudence Kyss, from his Ravenor novels, gives us insight into what "tricks" a Justicar might use in melee combat: biotically "thrown" blades, combattants biotically "pulling" themselves up to a balcony or "pushing" an opponent's shield (the medieval kind) up into his/her face, etc...

It's not something I want to see in ME (I get plenty of good melee combat in DA:O, thank you) but it's great ideas for fan fiction and IP spin-offs like novels or short stories, or an in-game cut-scene.

Flamewalker, I paraphrased your post and submitted it to the Liara thread. Maybe your post was too long. Maybe you just posted at a bad time. Everyone was impassioned at being angry at Joker. We might get some discussion this time.

It's either sleep-time or work-time for people in the U.S., and going-home time for people in western/northern Europe.

According to Wiki; A knight-errant is a figure of medieval chivalric romance literature.

;)

I wonder about different Justicar personalities. Are some Justicars more cruel and swift in their interpretation of the Code, could others be more liberal? Is there a corrupt Justicar who only became one to get stronger and become above the law. I know it probably contradicts the whole idea of a Justicar but there is always exceptions to the rule.
