Yeah I think a lot of players have similar feeling when they kill Samara. It just seems like such a betrayel.ReconTeam wrote...

Its such a jerk move too. Shepard really has no reason to betray Samara, she has already sworn her oath to him and will help him on his mission. And all he knows about Morinth is that she is a predator that overpowers and destroys people with her melding. No dossier on her abilities and only her word that her biotics match Samara's. To me, it makes the option of killing Samara just seem... random.

Samara from the Wiki: http://masseffect.wi...com/wiki/Samara
Trivia from the wiki:
In Hebrew and Arabic, samara translates as 'guardian' or
'protected by god', making it an appropriate name for a justicar.
Samara's armor and jewelry were created with feminine lines
and
ornate detailing meant to capture her archetypal description of
"mystic
warrior".- Through conversations, Shepard has the option to
show a
romantic interest in Samara. She dismisses the advance, but
notes that
she appreciates the interest nonetheless. This rejection
is not due to
the Code, which does not forbid such things, but by
her own choice. - Interestingly, the holo-projector on level
28 of Zakera
Ward that mentions a potential love interest by name if
they are
present is capable of saying "Justicar Samara", despite
her not actually
being a full-fledged romance option. -
If Shepard is mostly Renegade,
Samara comments that if she wasn't
bound to Shepard by the oath,
their meeting would have ended in
violence. Otherwise she simply
says that if Shepard makes her do
something that goes against her
Code, she will kill the Commander after
their mission is over.

My cousin had her killed his first playthrough because his Shep is renegade. I just don't see how people have the stomach to be a renegade throughout the whole game but I'm trying. Samara will stay alive though.

Each one of the Council species earned their seat on the Council because of a particular strength:
Turians: strenght of arms + society that prizes duty above personal gain
Salarians: ingenuity driven by short life span and accelerated metabolism
Asari: bountiful blue bosoms?I think not... but Aria makes no bones about it: asari come with certain "advantages" they have learned to put to good use... and those include being VERY convincing. So yes, I agree that asari are "manipulative" insofar as they know how to convince others to agree to their views. It makes them consummate diplomats, politicians, bards... ah I meant spies(commandos)...
...
I won't try and ascribe any particular motivation to the asari, but I know they value willpower and personality first over other qualities a person may have. A smart willfull person knows he can get a lot more done by convincing others to help out, rather than doing the job alone.
"bountiful blue bosoms?"
However, I do tend to expect the worst, hope for better. I won't bother posting my thoughts on their motivations; as this really isn't the place for it, and those have changed after playing the second game repeatedly. Also, I really don't like fighting in forums. Don't see the point. Disscussion sure, fights no.Thats one of the reasons I like this thread its fairly peaceful. Keep flying that peace flag dude.

I realize you felt like I was argumentative in my reply; sorry if it came across that way. The "bountiful blue bosoms" was obviously meant to be humorous and not a jibe. I rather enjoy our exchange on this topic, as many people tend to quickly dismiss the asari as "eye candy" with little depth...volly0071 wrote...

And you're right: the asari ARE manipulative as a whole. Some achieve good things with it, some not so good... but the asari species probably enjoys its Council seat because of this talent.

Yeah, Samara grows on you... It takes people time to appreciate the subtleties of her character. Samara attracts somewhat different players than your average fanboy/girl.
As the OP, would you mind collecting the various links and bits of trivia ant posting these on the original post on page 1?

Keep flying that peace flag dude. The devs may not have intended all of the implications drawn from the concept of the asari race: a mono-gendered (but attractively female-looking) species that can mate with any other species with a mind compatible with theirs. It's a pretty far-out concept, when you sit and start thinking on it (like we do)....
Actually, I didn't think that all.
I'm wondering where the dev's will go with the race beyond me3. They have nodded at the intention of continuing the franchise beyond this story; so I am curious to see how the asari backstory/ history unfolds. It's not easy building a world to game in let alone a universe. So much ground to cover, and only so much time before a fan base beings to shrink.

From other segments of the ME fanbase I often hear request to see non-RPG things such as space combat, MMO's (more on my feelings on why I don't think MMO"RPG" is not RPG in a minute), RTS, etc...
Halo, a FPS with an unusually rich background, generated a somewhat successful RealTimeStrategy game entitled Halo Wars. As a RTS was outside of Bungie's core business, they spun it off to Ensemble Studios through a licensing agreement. I've never played Halo Wars, so I really can't speak on the merits of the game, but it's an example of what Bioware could end-up doing to take advantage of the IP to the fullest.
A MassEffect-themed space combat game may have some potential, either as a strategy game (moving fleets around) or a tactical one (controlling "your" ship). Again, this is outside of Bioware's field of expertise (i.e. RPG) so they could spin this off to another EA afiliated studio.
A MassEffect MMO may be a money-maker, but MMO's are populated with people who really don't care much about the background or playing a role. It's munchkinism on a WorldWideWeb scale... full of people more interested in being able to brag about having the biggest ship, the most powerful biotic amp, etc... Diablo 2 gone global... No one actually plays a role for very long. Those that do, quickly abandon ship and fullfil their role-playing aspirations alone or with like-minded friends aver an old-school pen-and-paper RPG (assuming family life leaves you the time for it).
I'm curious to see how much success the P&P Dragon Age RPG will have. If it sells, we may see something similar being put out for ME.
Which leaves us with: what other grand story is left to tell, if the Reapers are destroyed? Everything else will kinda feel "mundane" after that... unless BW decides that the Reapers are too good a villain to destroy and they'll simply be delayed for the next generation of heroes? Time will tell...

Samara pretty much summarizes my view of renegade/paragon definitions:
renegade: fast, simple, expedient, whatever it takes to get the job done quickest
paragon: slow, complex, larger perspective, concensus, greater good, "the high road"

I'm not a fan of the MMO realm either, for the reasons you just stated. Had my fill years ago with D2. Good times, but long past.
I'm curious to see how much success the P&P Dragon Age RPG will have. If it sells, we may see something similar being put out for ME.

I wasn't even aware that they produced, or intended to produce a PnP version of the game. I think its a good idea. It allows for more development of thier world. The same writers won't be crushed with the overwhelming task trying to come up with details that RPGers demand. That leaves time for the CG corner to work on in game development.
They could wait a few years then make a new game to give people time to forget a little. Its certainly been done before.
It could be a good thing to try with the ME as well(PnPrpg), as you mentioned. But, yes it would be difficult if the Reapers are removed entirely. Starting, with such a powerful foe does hamstring them a bit. However, I'm sure someone could come with an interesting advesary in another story.( or take the univserse in a different direction). Perhaps, not quite as epic, but interesting. Then again a reason the Reapers have to be as epic as they are is how vague the whole of the galaxy is. It gives one something massive to stare at instead of the void.(little to no backround) Ah, the wonders of storytelling. Hell, its not like anyone can expect a new story at this point in recorded history...
So, I'm happy when I get an interesting one. Which I think ME is.
I just hope that B/A quits blurring the line between RPG/ cosplay sometime soon. Not holding my breath though. I haven't PnPed for several years now for reasons you mentioned earlier in MMO. Most of the people I was encountering didn't even know how to RP so I gave up. I had hoped CGing would be offering us more at this point. But, there is only so much one can demand of it when the consumer end doesn't push for more. Until consumers stand up a demand more; manufacturers have no reason to make more.
Then again, perhaps I am simply being impateint. Oh well, possibly by the time I'm 50 I'll start seeing the kind of games I have been hoping for for the last 10 years. Not that I'm truly disappointed with the way it has developed. I was just hoping for a little more maturity from both ends of the market at this point(consumer/ producer.)
