I posted something about that a few days ago, before the thread started moving fast, but it got a little swamped under talking about Tali...7Makaveli wrote...
I like that in this scene Shepard looks almost irrelevant, as if in the presence of something he finally can't control. But ofcourse our hero got to choose their fate. I would have thought that letting a renegade Shepard lose Samara would have been a striking narrative of the where certain paths can lead us. But apparently even the most renegade Shepard can choose to keep Samara over Morinth, I guess karma didn't come into play. What do you guys think? Should the playable hedon be able to stand beside the seeker of justice?
The strange thing is, though, that you need to break free of Morinth's
control in order to get the freedom to...choose her? I've never
understood that, you'd think that a mind-whammied Shep (which is what
you are if you can't make that final P/R check) would be more likely to
save Morinth.
Imagine if it were the other way around; if you
can't make that final check, Morinth forces you to save her, killing
Samara. You then have the Paragon/Renegade option of killing Morinth or
recruiting her.
I dig Samara, but I just think it would be such a
cool way to do the quest. The only consequence for not being able to
break out of Morinth's control is not being able to recruit her, which
always struck me as bizarre. The game punishes you with character death
for not having a high enough morality score in other places
(Jack/Miranda and Tali/Legion fights), why not here?
I don't want Samara dead, but I think people would appreciate her more (I've seen plenty of 'lol space paladin snore' remarks) if they had to work to keep her. Morinth is pretty horrible.

That line is exclusive to Liara. I wonder what Samara's catch phrase is...oh right its; Find peace in the embrace of the Goddess..., followed by a grunt. lol
"Find peace in the embrace of the Goddess!"
"Your life is mine!"
There are more, but I've forgotten them. Does anyone know more of her in-combat lines?
My Sentinel Shepard has Reave as his bonus power, but he doesn't get to say anything cool when he uses it. When I coordinate Samara's Reave with my Shepard's Reave, and in so doing get a cool line from her, it always makes me smile.
EDIT:
Killing an enemy: "That one is down!"

And ten minutes after this...
Shepard: *walks into cabin and locks the door* Where the hell is my ryncol!? *cries like a baby*
But yeah, that is the most painful capture I've seen so far, sadface *sniffle* :<
Other lines?
Using pull- "Come to me."
The way she says it of course. *broad smile*

I second your sentiment about Morinth...
My Shepard is mostly paragon, with a streak of Renegade because she won't take crap lightly if someone's gone to lengths in pissing her off. *cough* But she would've done a double-take at Morinth trying to convince her to help her. Like "are you f*cking kidding me!?"

Despite being highly disciplined though its got to be psychologically tough to do what she does. Anyone else wish for a paragon interrupt hug option sometimes? Especially after the loyalty mission when you talk to her she says in that sad tone "I am so proud of her."?

I think that's the answer right there: choosing Morinth makes little sense at all regardless of your P/R leanings. She is a serial killer who chose to embrace her addiction, rather than accepting a life of seclusion. Other beings have little importance to her beyond providing her with her next "fix". I think Bioware just presented us with a choice that had only one really beneficial outcome; and really, most of our daily life choices are relatively easy to make.enormousmoonboots wrote...

As for the game "punishing" us for low P/R scores in choosing between Tali/Legion and Miranda/Jack, I would argue than it may be an easy choice for some players: not everyone's after the "No One Left Behind" achievement.

I tend to agree. If not evil, then at least irrational IMO.Siansonea II wrote...
I've always thought that Shepard choosing to save Morinth over Samara is beyond Renegade, and is pure evil, probably the most evil thing Shepard has ever done. Samara is a noble asari that all lawful asari respect and revere, while Morinth is one of their most shameful secrets, and a serial killer to boot. Choosing to betray an asari like Samara who has sworn herself to Shepard's service, and to save an asari like Morinth whom Shepard has known for a few minutes? Beyond evil! That act alone makes Renegade Shepard pretty irredeemable in my eyes, especially when Shepard says "Morinth will be more useful to me". This is the person we're counting on to save the galaxy?!
