Clearly Bioware is ambivalent about its gay and lesbian fans. That interview someone linked to where they talk about 3rd person versus 1st person is a cop out and a bunch of crap. The Mass Effect team CLEARLY has issues about gay characters (isn't Mass Effect developed in Texas now?) and they are trying to rationalize their inability to allow for a MM Shepard romance. It's not that it wouldn't fit into the story. The fact is that they don't WANT to fit it into the story. That's the difference. If they really cared they would make an effort.

Why don't they make an effort? Could be lots of reasons. Homophobia, lack of corporate support, or some combination. Yeah, the anti-gay posters who abound in these forums are annoying, but the fact is that Bioware is supporting them by making specious arguments about 3rd person vs 1st person nonsense.

As someone who works in the gaming industry I call bulls**t on Bioware, because that's what that interview is.

First off, let me state that I myself am gay and I believe that everyone should just drop it. Bioware is almost definitely not going to add a M/M romance in this game, it's just how it goes. I highly doubt it's anything against the gays, and if it is then just don't support them anymore, it's as easy as that. I think it would be a waste to add this especially when there is only one more installment left in the series. Yes many of you think it would be a nice thing to add, but really, look at what your complaining about, a video game.

All this because I posted my opinion? Thankfully the more together people from both sides of the argument can see that I am justified to have an opinion. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to say it.

Well. TBH OP did not state anything hateful. He just said he is against option and he is entitled to this opinion, even if mine is different.

He implied that homosexuality was a wrong view held by a small minority and it should be ignored until it went away.

Sure he didn't suggest going out and bashing a ****, but it's still pretty damn insulting.

I don't know I'd go so far as to call Bioware a bunch of pervs.  Just 'cause they've included gay romances in all of their recent releases?  That's a little harsh, man.

Could care less if peeps have a gay Shep, it has no relevance on my game. Much like gays have no relevance on my life if they marry, go rock climbing or eat a pizza. A hundred years ago this topic would have been that women cant be Sheppard, sixty years ago that Sheppard cant be black. It's just ignorance they have been taught since children.

Why is it that Bioware has to do everything to please everyone? They made THEIR game and that is how it is going to be. This is the equivelent of going to an author of a novel and complaining the main character isn't gay so change it or make a gay version of the novel. They are the artists, and they can craft the game to their liking, with or without gay characters.

Having gay-romances in your video game isn't a human right. You don't like the game, don't buy it. You must not realize the huge gay-romance thread which should have been locked down long time ago that still exists.

Freedom of speech goes both ways. You are allowed to spew your general nonsense, and Bioware, as the creator of the game, is allowed to not have any gay romances in their games.

I dont think anyone seriously DEMANDED a gay option.

They made a suggestion (Bioware likes suggestions) they'd like to see in number 3 and it gained a bit of support. The problem is with these anti-gay threads that have come up in response that have brought the trolls out to play. You get those people that think bashing gays is genuinely amusing and makes them more manly, and you get those that find that point of view so hilarious in and of itself they can't help but mock it.

The anti-gay threads seem to be more vocal in their distaste at the moment. How a thread called "Whining gays..." can be considered as not a troll thread is beyond me.
