within the third and final instalment of the Mass Effect Trilogy. The
opinions are my own and I would imagine you all have opinions too that I would love to hear also so feel free to pick apart what I say like vultures and add your own context to it all.
[What Characters Will Remain?]
Grunt
Will
most likely not be returning as a party member, he is a valuable member
of his race and the calling to return home and spread his much needed
genes will have him preoccupied for joining your party for the third
installment. I would imagine we will see him in the third instalment much like how we saw Wrex.
Mordin Solus
I believe
Mordin will stay with the team, after all... Everyone needs a good
research hand. Plus, as a character he rocks. If there is a chance that
he might not return it would be because his character pretty much has
no more mystique about him so could just return as a cameo.
Samara
Her oath is complete with you so I would imagine she will go back to Justicar like things. But expect her in the third instalment as a cameo
Jacob Taylor
Unsure about Jacob, I didn't
really enjoy his character. To me he was a male Ashley Williams kind-of
and his character isn't really fleshed out even when doing his loyalty
quest. However, if the writers at Bioware work on him a bit he could
become an interesting character very quickly as most of his past is
never discussed. I would have to go for a no though about him returning.
Miranda Lawson
Loyal
to Ceberus, perhaps no longer willingly, but more so for the protection
of her sister. Ceberus have that trump card under their sleeve and I would imagine she returns as a cameo, nothing more.
Thane Krios
Alas,
as interesting Thane is, he doesn't have the time left in this universe
to assist us through the third instalment. He pretty much is on death's
door by the end of the game and I very much doubt the hanar will cure his condition within his life time. So I guess his return will be based on the cure or not.
Jack/Subject Zero
Jack, I actually really enjoy her character, I am
50/50 on her return though. Part of me believes she won't and go off to
be the traditional bad girl that she has always been. Perhaps become
the leader of a merc group or something. The other part of me wants her
to retun so you can watch her character change from the violent
dangerous woman she is into a caring emotional stable woman.
Tali'Zorah vas Neema/Normandy
A must return, not only because I love this little Quarion but I feel
her journey with Shep is essential for all that they will uncover. Also
she has the name of your ship which makes her kind of bound to you.
Either way she will have a big part to play.
Garrus Vakarian
That
little scallywag that he is, he deserves to come back. He will no
longer serve on a turion ship, or C-sec. The injustices of the world
and the reaper makes him yearn for greater things. He will come back as
a party member, reader to kick ass as per normal.
Legion
Perhaps
the most interesting part of ME2 and still filled with many mysteries.
A MUST be return for ME3. It would be very silly of Bioware not to
include this loveable synthetic.
Zaeed Massani
A hired hand, his job is done. Off he goes. I actually
didn't like Zaeed at first, but oddly his character is very well
written and voice acted which makes his character likeable. But, being
a bounty hunter his pay cheque is what he cares about so most likely
will appear as a cameo.
So out of the orig cast, I reckon
4 of them will be a MUST return. The good professor, Tali, Garrus and
Legion. Which to me (if Bioaware keep the 10 character deal) leaves room for 6 new party members.
[Story]
I won't knock Bioware's story telling, I consider them the masters for that kind of thing, but heres what I believe will happen in ME3.
TIM is
not very happy with you at all, in fact he is darned right pissed off
and decides that you are a costly piece of property to keep around.
Thus, he sets the destruct sequence on the Normandy forcing you all to
flee into escape pods. Only this time without the dramatic Shep death.
Joker will manage to salvage EDI's personality and take that onboard
with him. So I would imagine one pod will be Shep, Joker with EDI and Tali.
Without
a ship and with the Reapers coming it's down to you and you alone to
try and assemble a force to be reckoned with. Going to the citadel
bears no fruit for you. The Council are still in denial about anything,
comfortable within their high positions not willing to risk galactic
panic. However, with little credits you have been able to scrape
together you manage to buy a very cheap second hand ship of the ship
merchant. Hence why Tali becomes very important in helping the ship run
well.
The journey will consist of building your ship up and
landing on planets to get upgrades and find crew to help you on your
mission. You want to build a ship that will rip the Reapers a new one
and give the galaxy a chance for survival. So in short, you start with
a little ship and through your adventures it grows bigger and bigger
and your crew expands.
Crew recruiting will not just be to do
with your party members, you will be searching for the best minds to
help[ navigate your ship. Weapon specialists, engineers, scientists etc
and each party member you pick up will be in charge of these teams. So
for example Tali will be in charge of the Engineering squad.
Periodically
your party members will give you locations and dossiers of great minded
individuals that will benefit your crew and your exploration will begin
once more.
So this time your ship design, crew, party members will solely be your choice and you get a little more freedom behind it.
But
obviously ship building and recruitment does not conclude your goals,
it is only the beginning for you also will need to band together the
galaxy in a collective effort in kicking the Reapers ass. So you will
be going from place to place completing missions to establish a force
to be reckoned with.
Perhaps your recruitment will be more based on your Paragon/Renegade scores also.
My
initial ideas will be Rachni (unsure if I spelt that right) who will
assist you, the geth will assist you through dealings with the Quarion
people. Perhaps both the geth and quarions band together the Geth to be
recognised as a race looking for peace and the Quarion people being
allowed to return back to their home planet.
You then hae all
the other races to where you have made friends, the Professor will have
contacts with his people itching to save the galaxy and the Korgon will
want a piece of the action also.
Also enlisting help from the
Blue Suns, Eclipse and Blood Pack (perhaps if renegade) will be of
great help considering their military might.
Ceberus will be
trying to defend humanity also, but they will be preoccupied with
gaining as much tech from the collectors as possible. They see a larger
picture for when the Reapers are gone, looking too far in the future
and their efforts to save humanity for the future will cloud saving
humanity at the present day. They will be a constant thorn in your
side.
The Alliance will not trust you, Ceberus has gone to
great lengths to hinder you. TIM way of retribution against you to make
sure that you are forgotten in history and that Ceberus takes it's
rightful place of glory in being saviour to everyone.
Once you
have the ship, the crew, the party and an army you will get choices on
how to deploy your tactics. For example, this race/force will be on
defence, this race/force will be on attack, this will be on this and
this and this etc etc. Your choices made within the three games as well
as your decisions made at the very end will shape how the battle will
go and how you are remembered.
[Romances]
Shall return in full swing although personally I would like them changed to the more Baldur's Gate style of romance. I remember
Jaheria becoming my romance partner and she had her own story, quests
around her and the gameplay changed to that affect i.e. she became
vamperised and you had to save her...or not.... So just a bit more
thought into the romances would be great.
I liked the romances in ME2 they were tastefully done and although I kinda
understand why there was no 'side boob' I still felt it was a bit of a
cop out. The news slammed Bioware for it, although they were more angry
at the same sex relations more than the nudity (which I considered
no worse than Notting Hill with Julia Roberts). It is because computer
games are considered 'a mans thing' so romance in games or nudity
becomes cheap titillation for men to be pervy. Which I find sexist and a spiteful means to gain cheap politician points within the American government system.
I
would say to Bioware, if you want to show side boob, then show it. Your
romances are executed well, but fan-boys like myself like it to be a
bit sultry to show the sexiness behind it. Even my girlfriend had to
laugh as my character ram-shanked Tali with his clothes on and quite
frankly I want reasons for my girlfriend to
get undressed when we make love, rather than keep her clothes on and
simulate a great romance.
[Levels and Upgrades]
Love them, they are like personal mile-stones that chart your progress. I always enjoy leveling up and investing in tech and I hope this is invested in greatly for ME3.
For example, I would like a larger level cap please. I hit level 30 in my first playthrough and although I did playthrough again for the new experience, re-playing always feels better when I have
levels to hit. So a level cap say of 60, with the intention to get to
level 30 by the end game and then level 60 through another playthrough
would be great. Obviously the second playthrough will have the enemies
match your current level or +1 of your level for the challenge.
The
Tech is wonderful and if there is ship building, crew building etc it
will give great opportunities to have more and more tech something I enjoy investing in being a Civilization fan.
[Plot Ideas]
I have quite a few ideas about the plot and about the Reapers and I really look forward to seeing what Bioware come up with and how the conclude the game. But here are a few of mine and I will like to hear a few of yours also, the more the merrier!
- The Reapers are after mankind as the next stepping stone towards their evolution. They have been destroying the Galaxy over and over again for millions of years. Due to our genetic diversity (facial features, height , skin colour, disease etc) and being the only race other than the Protheans to make a dent on them they want us and us alone for study, to help understand themselves and evolve. Evolution being our genetic destiny etc what ever Harbinger always ranted on about. Hence forth the Reaper being built looked like a human, a cross bred Reaper.
- The Reapers indeed use genetic material of a race to reproduce, and thus each Reaper out there signifies the amount of times they have truely conquered the Galaxy and will continue to repeat this process until stopped.
- The Reapers are not so much bad guys, just a method of approach which lacks normal understanding. The Galaxy reaches a certain point and starts collapsing. The Reapers harvest all the genetic material and technology from all over to repair the Universe, after which they are knackered and hibernate.
- TIM is infact a Reaper/or creator of the Reapers and through his lifetime of observation (several billion years) has never seen a species like us, with our genetic diversity. He acts as guardian and observer to our species protecting us for his own secret planned reasons. Which is why people consider TIM to be against other alien species.
The list could go on and on, but I am mor einterested in hearing your thoughts about any of the topics I approached on. I love to see a good discussion!
Thank you for reading,
Tsumoro
