How often do you control your squadmates?

I will set them up in cover when I enter a new area, but for the most part I let them do their own thing while in cover. I am a Sentinel with WAmmo so I really do not need to depend on the squad for the normal skirmish. I would imagine if I was another class though where I depend on my squad to strip defenses then I would probably have to manage them a lot more.

The only time I micromanage skills is when YMIRs pop up, Geth Primes, or any sub boss type that can do some real hurt'n.

I controlled them all the time in ME1 and now in ME2. Especially after a few times where Miranda's idea of "cover" was standing out in the open ON the crates instead of behind. I think my favorite time I messed up on issuing cover command was with Mordin on Jack's recruitment. He kept going into cover on the side that was being shot into swiss cheese. It took me a minute to notice he wasn't going exactly where I wanted him. hehehe

I like my team for suppressive fire and extra powers.

One way to keep your squad alive is to shoot the targets that go after your team. Works great when you separate yourself from your team and in a decent flanking position. Once you see an enemy turn his guns on your team, shoot that one yourself.

I just had one of the best missions on this game by playing tactical and using my squad. From cover to cover, myself, Garrus and Zaeed were unstopable on Tali's recruitment mission. It definitely became my favourite mission of the game on this playthrough.

I wonder if Haestrom is just laid out better than other missions. I took Kasumi and Garrus and they did surprisingly well at watching my back with little instruction from me. They even mowed down all the geth I cloaked past to get to the Colossus faster.

Now on Mordin's recruitment mission, it doesn't seem to matter who I take or where I tell them to go, they just stand in front of the vorcha and die.

I do think Haestrom is a lot better with the Ai Pacifien, since it is more harder to move around in the area than most planets.
The AI sucks in both game, I hardly tell them what to do in the game.  I tend to let them do their own thing for me they last longer that way.  It more funner for me when I don't worry about sqaud mates, and stuff like that.

Only to pick their weapons or send them to cover when pathing screws up.

This is the best part of playing insanity mode...the feeling that you have a team to help you.

LOL,   I'll agree with that. ( Team Scar ) Shep, Garrus, and Zaeed always worked great for me too.  I guess I'm just not all that great with the tactical, so i'll just blame it on the glitches. ( Squad won't get into cover kind of stuff )

Depends on what difficulty I'm playing on. If it is Insanity then I always micromanage them. On Veteran and below they can take care of themselves pretty well... and sometimes will surprisingly assist you by flanking enemies and setting up choke points (particularly on the Collossus fight).

Yeah, those are always the greatest moments, when you feel like you really pulled off the tactics so well that the bad guys didn't even know what hit them. I had a few in ME1 where I would take out a whole room full of bad guys in five seconds. I'm generally a fan of the universal cooldown, but it's kind of a shame that that's not possible anymore.

I enjoyed that mission so much on Insanity! It was the first where I felt that my Engineer was coming into her own as a powerhouse. I went on about it to my friends who also play ME2 and now they make fun of me :crying:

Fools haven't played the game on Insanity, that's why!
