List squadmate combos that complement each other (i.e., without reference to Shepard ...).

1.  I think the Miranda / Jacob combo is underrated.  Since he's got Barrier and uses a shotgun with incendiary ammo, he's a close-in fighter with biotics that can actually survive a bit... while Miranda can knock out shields with Overload and unleash a lot of pain with Warp and Slam/Reave (I forget which) on Jacob's Pulled targets ... I'm thinking of her power that does extra damage against targets already under a biotic power effect.  Not to mention Miranda's awesome squad buffs in the Cerberus Officer power.

2.  I love Jack and Mordin but they seem to need an up-front type to protect them, maybe Grunt or Jacob.  In my games, they seem to be pretty squishy.

what are your squaddie combos?

Ultimately, it depends on the character you are playing. Why would you need Miranda to Warp/Overload if you're a sentinel? ;)

Well aren't you a buzzkill. I was simply asking folks to consider which squaddies work best together. Yes, there is a specific context (your Shepard) that's different in every game, but I thought it was an interesting subject. *shrug*

I thought Miranda was the most useful squad member for majority of the game (played as soldier on Insanity). Most of the time I used Garrus as second party member but switched to Legion once I got him (them? :P). I hope he makes a return in ME3.

Instead of asking which squadmates are a good combo, I ask myself which squadmates would be the best to pick in the current mission.

Theres no point in bringing Legion with a maxed AI hacking if we're hitting a Collector base for example.

Garrus/Samara or Miranda/Samara strike me as being potentially good combos. Garrus/Miranda can use Overload to blow off the shields of enemies, then Samara hits them with Reave to destroy their armor. Garrus might be a bit better because he can use AP ammo and a sniper rifle to take out the remaining armor, but Miranda can cast Warp to add to Reave's anti-armor effect. Once the armor is gone, Miranda and Samara can use their biotics together to really lay on the pain.

My Vanguard always takes Miranda + anyone.

Does not really matter because I do 90% of the killing anyways.

I find Garrus (all bias aside) to be incredibly useful. AP Ammo (usually Squad Ammo) and Concussive Shot are nice, and if I'm not using Miranda (though usually she's never far behind) means I've got Overload covered. Garrus actually feels a lot like having Miranda around minus the useful class passives.

Tali/Legion makes Legion's loyalty mission a laugh. Two AI Hacks is absurd on that mission. Unfortunately, you get Legion so late that you cant really use this combo elsewhere too much.

Otherwise, I have found Samara to be really great. Assault Rifles + Reave is really nice for damage. And then Pull and Throw give her some good CC. If you, or an ally has Warp, the Pull/Warp combo is awesome as well. Samara is particularly good on missions against Collectors.

Miranda is really good too. Warp and Overload covers all defenses. Slam does some CC if you need it, and she gives squad bonuses.

My most used combo was Miranda and Samara. Both helped me get defenses off super fast with their powers. Together they give me great CC (ie. Husks go down fast). They give me the Pull/Warp combo, and with Miranda's weapon damage bonus and Samara's use of the assault rifle, they do solid weapon damage.

Zaeed and Garrus are good in that they have powers to deal with all 3 defense types and health. Both have Concussive Shot for Barriers. Garrus has AP Ammo for Armor and Health, as well as Overload for shields. Zaeed has Inferno Grenade for Armor and Health, and Disruptor Ammo for Shields. Both also have access to good weapons. Zaeed's personal talent ups his damage A LOT too. So these two are basically good for any situation. Combining the two is good for pretty much any situation.

Sentinal Shepard, Samara, and Tali was my combo.

Assault rifle tank Sentinel with Warp ammo,

Samara - Reave for armor/barrier decimation

Tali - Shield stealer and great at distracting lieutenant mobs with Chittika (especially scions)

Insanity completed with ease.

Miranda/Garrus/Samara combos are in my humble opinion some of the best in the game. As a matter of fact Miranda is probably the best squad member for insanity runs by a thousand miles. You get her almost instantly, she provides health and damage bonuses for the entire squad, she has overload and warp, what's not to like. Later on you can throw Tali into this mix, mainly because the drone is an amazing CC for Insanity. Too bad you get Legion, at a point where the game is almost at an end.

For my Vanguard I used either:

Garrus/Thane: Rounds up all the debuffs, Throw/CS for CC. Massive Damage Dealing party

Miranda/Grunt: Miranda for debuff and squad bonuses, Grunt to tank. In theory Jacob can not only Tank but also CC with Pull... he just dies more often than Grunt for me.

I haven't really ironed anything out for my Sentinel yet but I was thinking:

Grunt/Jacob: Both "generally" harder to kill, high damage dealers and Jacob has Pull.

Anybody really.

Personally favour Miranda on Insanity because of her Passive bonusses and have been using Tali a bit as well since the explosive drones make enemies go after them first instead of me.

Depends on who I'm fighting:

Mercs: Garrus, Miranda

Geth: Tali, Legion

Husks: Tali, Grunt

Collectors: Miranda, Thane

I try to use all the squaddies evenly, but Jacob and Jack just seem to do stupid **** constantly.

I've been warming to Zaeed on higher difficulties actually. He tears through shields and armour, and for some reason his grenades actually kill things when he uses them (yet if I take them as a bonus power they suck, what gives?). Just finished an insanity infiltrator game with him and Miranda through the collector base, fun times.

Cool voice too, for that 2% of the game where your squadmates actually contribute to conversation.

I always bring Miranda even on my Sentinel hardcore playthrough, double overload and warp is just that good. other teammate is usually Grunt or Garrus. Triple overload is very nice to have to take down any shields, mecs and geth quick.

This. Though I prefer to use Mordin and Grunt when fighting husks. I don't think I could've survived Derelict Ship on Insanity without them. Incinerate + Squad Incendiary Ammo + Krogan Charge/Shotgun = Win.

Zaeed for the crazy +50% bonus damage he gets. I play an Engineer, so I have drones, AI hacks, and defense-crushing abilities covered (incinerate, overload). Who the third person in my squad is depends on the enemies I'm facing. I go with Tali a lot, though, since two sets of the same powerset doesn't hurt. Helps tear through the defenses faster, plus two drones on the field helps. Legion usually replaces Zaeed once I get him. The Widow sniper rifle is mean, plus I get a THIRD drone to play with. Three explosive drones on the field can tie up a lot of the big baddies.

My sentinel teams up with Samara and Garrus.

I need Garrus for the squad ammo and Samara because she has reave with an assault rifle.

takes time to build.
