looked around and didn't see anything mentioning this in the faq.

Hopefully I'm not having a a fit of blindness, but does anyone know anything about this?

did spend all of yesterday studying for a test and most of today on a sugar buzz and in a daze of relief that I got a good grade, so that could be part of it.

This will be an important consideration for if I can convince my SO to get this for the PC, so I hope it does have multiplayer. :wizard:

No Multiplayer functions, however there will be player made mods and adventures that will be available to download and play.

Yeah, I suppose that's where this site comes in. A place where we can share our game experience.

I actually wrote a blog post on that very thought - this site is designed to allow single-player gamers to share their experiences, much as a MMORPG does (but without the annoyances Image IPB)

Yeah, but *shockgaspawe* he actually doesn't like player mods. I, on the other hand, am addicted to hoarding so many that my game barely resembles what the company put out the door.

Great posts, and I've been thinking about this a lot, too. My thoughts:

- The game isn't shipping with multiplayer, but no one at Bioware has conclusively stated that it will not ever have multiplayer
- I've seen groups started by Bioware employees that hint at the potential future multiplayer, or that at least it's under consideration; notably, the MMORPG gamers groups. (I'll look for the link and post it here in an edit).
- Clearly this site is meant to be an auxiliary to some sort of online community, which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for a single-player-only game like Jade Empire, say.

My own opinion based on the above observations is that Bioware for some unknown reason didn't want to or couldn't include multiplayer in the initial release.

Perhaps they're still trying to figure out what model to use (free like NW1? pay-to-play like WoW?). Perhaps they ran out of time or funding. Perhaps they want to include it in an expansion- hey, there's no shame in a company trying make money, after all, and the multiplayer aspect of DA would be a product that people would be willing to purchase.

But until I hear Chris Priestly- not just fans- say, "Sorry, folks, it's definitely NOT going to happen", I've got to assume that it's still very much under consideration in those hallowed Albertan halls.

Might just be a foreground to a project in the works to make the game adept to a multiplayer format. I might be wrong here but I could of sworn I read somewhere BioWare had an MMO in the works. havnt had any luck finding it again as of recent

Yes, Georg Zoeller, the Senior Technical guy said that it would be impossible to add multiplayer to DA. A sequel, possibly, but not Dragon Age: Origins.

By 'unknown reasons' I assume you mean 'reasons BioWare has explained numerous times.’

The game was created to be a single player experience.

Mutiplayer goes against what this game is about.

It would spoil the unique "feel" each character have, and how you interact them.

It is made for you alone change the world and interact with it.

Thats just my humble opinion though.

Couldn't agree more.

Todays MMORPG are infact not RPG in my opinion. In Age of Conan for instance - the story is about you being a bit special like everyone else. However, I wouldn't mind if there was a LAN function or something similar like Baldur's Gate where you could play alone if you wanted to and have a blast with friends at harder difficulties.

Edit: Not saying that DAO is a MMORPG.

I doubt if a full MMO type version of DAO would work out. As said it's an RPG, and its just not possible to do an MMO where any single character can be "the hero".

However, one of the things I loved about NWN, NWN2 was the limited multiplayer/PW capability. Where a person, or small group could create their own world and share it with others in a multiplayer version of the game. This allowed the RPG community to role-play with others, something neither single player, nor full MMO's really permit.

Good opinion, maybe & hopefully they will make a multiplayer sequel, n Sacred 2 & Borderlands u can play a SP

gme & a MP gme the only thng it affects is yo lvl, now if the MP sequel could b like sacred & if they could

expand the lvls u earn it would b awesome thn u could play n yo friends gme see wht decisions he does r

doesn't make, thn join your SP gme & make different decisions, tht way if u hve a elf mage but u don't wanna

create a human noble just 2 see the ending u could just view the ending n yo friends gme r see wht skills yo

friend has & decide if u wanna mke a human noble r not, r move on to another class r game. But i think their

going fo replay value, if u wanna know mo about the 3rd alternate ending thn u hve 2 play through as a noble.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect are supposed to be single player franchises. The MMO that Bioware are involved with is SWTOR which is on Lucas Arts because they have the exclusive rights of the Star Wars franchise.

There should be NOTHING , NO reason, no concerns that should stop this game acquiring MP functionality. The damn thing practically begs for it.

Yes and what it needs is a DM toolkit for MP play. For people that don't know what that is - look it up.. it was the best part of Neverwinter Nights and most of that dev team worked on this (and why hopefully it is inevitable). Basically you build an adventure, the players log in and ROLEPLAY their characters, and the DM (dungeonmaster) roleplays the other characters, reacts to their behaviour etc. Basically he makes the world come alive and your companions arnt scrpted, they are real people.

How is that for a RPG? I played games like that in NWN for 450+ hours including running my own campaign over a year. Trust me when I say that I experienced some of the most amazing rp experiences - one of my fave was when we played death row inmates trying to escape a jail while the wardens kept an eye. There is simply nothing like it.

Imagine walking around Thedas with a party of real people, all roleplaying their characters. Imagine wanting walking to an npc and talking to it, and it talks (non scripted) back to you because a DM has possessed it to react back. Imagine thinking outside the box (i.e. you try and poison an npc and spike his drink - the DM will make the relevant skill rolls and tell you/act out the outcome).

Welcome to DA coming alive. You sure you don't want THAT?

Wouldn't mind a single player up to ostogar then co-op multiplayer from there would be awesome.
