I've successfully played through two characters (both infiltrators) on Normal and Veteran. My goal is to have two playthroughs for paragon and renegade (leaving me with options for the future ME3). I was planning on making my hardcore run a Sentinel but so far, I'm not really enjoying the class. Of course, things may change as I progress. I was looking into Engineer but I don't know much about the class. What's essentially the most fun build / teammates? Why do you guys enjoy the class? How does the playstyle suit you?

I am currently running an Engineer through Hardcore and am finding the drone fairly effective with the explosion upon death. Also Incendiary Bomb and Overload are extremely helpful. I have found little use for AI hacking in Hardcore. You will likely want Reave as your additional power as well because All Collectors are decked in Barriers, and Reave will bore through a barrier rather quickly.
Something to consider: just about every enemy has added protection in Hardcore
+Armor = Husks/Aboms, Mechs
+Shield = Mercenaries, Geth
+Barrier = Collectors
So if you remember the missions, you should be able to bring a suitable counter squad to those enemies.
Enjoy, it is a pretty fun class to play. Having a counter for everything is quite useful, now if only the team will get back behind cover, I may make it all the way through.

Haha, amen to that. I can't remember how many times Miranda or Garrus would stand out in the open and walk right in front of a Scion or Harbinger while I'm spamming the location next to me. I'm just struggling between Engineer or Sentinel really. I don't like Soldier and I already played an Infiltrator twice. Adept (to me) lost its appeal in ME2 and I have no real opinion on Vanguard yet.

Im currently playing sentinel class and I love it. I think it is one of the more durable classes because of the tech armor ability. So broken. It knocks enemies down when it goes down and the cool down on it is pretty fast so you can pretty much just keep casting it as fast as it goes down in harder difficulties. I also used reave as my bonus talent. I think its the best bonus talent for sentinel. I maxed tech armor, overload, and reave. I just love this class. I usually take Miranda and tali or garrus with me on missions.

I enjoyed my Engineer run a lot, albeit it was my 1st and on Normal.
Cryo Blast is very fun to use, especially the AoE Cryo Blast where you can freeze 3 or 4 targets, and one headshot to each of them and they shatter. You should be use to AI hacking and Incinerate. Engineer also has overload which is a very good power. Finally, go with Attack Drone, and it will be useful.
Disclaimer, if you are trying Hardcore, I can't say you will have a similar experience to mine. I have yet to try Hardcore, but on my 3rd playtrhough(currently on 2nd), I am going to try it with an Infiltrator.
