I posted this over on the old forums swforums.bioware.com/myviewtopic.html, since this wouldn't let me on - but now I am, I'll put it here too Posted Image

Though I am sure The Old Repubic will be great, I would personally rather play KOTOR 3. However, Ray Muzyka has said something along the lines of "TOR is KOTOR 3, 4, 5 and 6" which doesnt bode well for those of us who want KOTOR 3 - as a single player RPG, not an MMO.
Basically, I'm wondering how many other people want KOTOR3 as much as I do, and how many are happy to accept TOR in its place. So (poll time), please start any post with:

a) I want KOTOR 3, despite TOR

B) I'm happy to take TOR in KOTOR 3's place

c) I don't care!

Playing Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age just makes me think how brilliant KOTOR 3 could be if they combined ME's graphics, animation and conversations with Dragon Age style combat (or KOTOR combat of course).

Oh, I didn't know there was a poll section Posted Image - I've made a proper poll: social.bioware.com/1382154/polls/1889/

Let's be honest, TOR is a disastrous direction for Knights of the Old Republic. I don't see how it can fit comfortably as an MMO rather than a single player RPG and I'm certainly not interested in paying a subscription so I and a million other people can sort out the galaxy all at once.

I don't understand quite how it works - it seems like its simply a multiplayer RPG; I don't get it. Then again, I'm not interested so I'm not reading up about it. I think it'll be one of the better MMOs, but it NOT a replacement for KOTOR.

I don't care about TOR, but I'd really like a KOTOR3

I'd love to have a Kotor 3, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I hope TOR can live up to the expectations of us Kotor fans. I love those games to death--Kotor is my hands-down favorite game of all time, and Bioware is going to have to work very hard to make TOR a good game. If anyone can do it, though, they can.

KotOR 3 hands down. Every time I've tried an MMO I end up giving up in my first week. A few catch my attention enough that I consider trying them out, but none have captured my long term interest. From what little information on ToR is out there, I don't expect that to be converted. Even if it turns out to be an amazing MMO, it is still an MMO, and I can't see how that could possibly measure up to a new single player KotOR without drastically changing the genre's conventions.

I agree; even if it is good - which it probably will be - it's still an MMO. I can't and won't pay a monthly subscription to a genre I don't like and have no interest in. As I said, I'm not saying they shouldn't make TOR, but they shouldn't assume that just because they ARE making it, all their fans want it, and will forget about a proper KOTOR game.

All the anti-social recluses here are against any MMO or multiplayer experience. Instead of voicing your irrelevant opinions here, you guys should just stay home with your excessive eye liner and piercings and /wrists with some razor blades. The world would be better off without you retarded EMOs.

I'd like to see the old republic universe continue to develop as a single-player and MMO experience, but if I have to choose one, I think I'll take TOR. MMOs just have a longer lifespan and get updated far more often.

It has nothing to do with social skills. I play Neverwinter Nights with strangers on a regular basis just fine, thank you. I've *tried* several MMOs. Fact is, I dislike them for one simple reason: they are boring. I do not find MMO quests fulfilling nor grinding for the dubious honor of having a chance to earn high end loot and participate in raids entertaining. In fact, playing with friends is all MMOs have going for them. If I want to play a mindless hack 'n' slash game with friends though, it's better to fire up the likes of Diablo where there is no false pretense of deeper gameplay.

MMOs are about as RPG as action games, and if I want an action game I play an action game. If I want an RPG I play a single player game. When was the last time someone touted an MMO's story and characters as a selling point? Hell, in the case of WoW all I hear of is how they trashed what background was established by WCIII. I see no reason to look forward to ToR if it is more of the same; but with lightsabers. Every MMO has gimmicks to attract subscribers, but once you get down to core gameplay it is always similar, if not the same, and so far it has always been boring. The few that try genuinely new ideas tend to fail spectacularly.

I would rather have a KotOR 3 without the damn dialog wheel or MMO filth thank you very much.

Playing an MMO implies staying home on the computer.;)

Personally, I want a Knights of the old republic 3 instead of The Old republic, while I think the old republic is the only mmo that looks remotely interesting to me, I really just want Bioware to get there act together after Mass effect 3 and the Old republic are released and please the fans and make Kotor 3.

And I would really like Lucasarts to find a developer for Battlefront 3 after Free radical and Pandemic closed.

Wow (see what I did there), someone is in love with MMOs. And there was me thinking we were just voicing opinions - apparently if they don't coincide with this idiot's, they're irrelevant. Two questions: first, do you REALLY think people who don't like MMOs are emos? Because the only people I've ever seen playing MMOs are goths and emos. Second, do you actually think playing a computer game makes you social? If I want to play with other people I play modern warfare, if I want to be social, I GO OUT INTO THE REAL WORLD.

TOR looks to be better than any normal MMO, as it appears to be actually mixing MMO and RPG quite well. But like most people, if I want to play an RPG I'm not going to go and pick up an MMO.

I am all for The Old Republic, let’s remember World of Warcraft came from no where and Blizzard surprised us. Only problem I see for Bioware, is if they force grouping and if they use their point and click model and don’t let us use the directional keys.

Blizzard does some things nicely. They make the controls simple and don’t force the advance tactical control set that bioware is famous for using on their PC Games.

I'm just going to ignore the whole "YOUR AN EMO CUTTER IF YOU DON'T LIKE MMOS! GO KILL YOURSELF!" comment. Besides being completely insensitive and stereotypical, it's a false assumption.

I don't play MMOs anymore. After 3-4 months, or hitting the level cap, I get bored and stop playing. There isn't any story to compel me to keep playing and keep me interested. Which is why I'd definitely rather have KOTOR 3 over TOR.

That said, I'm not excited over TOR, but definitely interested. Well, more interested in how the game is going to work, because I don't see how it can. It's story driven, fully voiced(including your character), and yet still MMO. I just don't see how it's going to all work on a MMO scale.

The gameplay videos so far only show one player, or 2 players playing in a group. How are NPC conversation going to play out with dozens of players trying to talk to the same NPC at the same time? Dialogue is done in a cutscene manner with a dialogue wheel, and works fine with just one person, but how about with multiple players? That is just one of the many things that I just can't picture working in a MMO setting.

In my opinion, TOR is going to either be an interesting and new experience, or it's going to fail miserably.

I agree, TOR does look interesting, and I wonder how it will work. As for the multiplayer dialogue, I think one player is the leader and does most of the talking, but at points it switches to let the other player speak (there's a video of that somewhere). I'd quite like to play TOR, but no matter how good it is, its still an MMO; and I would not feel like it is my game, which is partly what an RPG is about.

Also, don't forget about the proper poll here social.bioware.com/1382154/polls/1889/  We have 61 votes for KOTOR 3 so far - it would be brilliant to get enough to show BioWare that their fans DO want KOTOR 3 Posted Image

Personal opinion on
I would prefer KOTOR 3 - For me RPG is like a book, therefore MMORPG (even a good one) is a book written by writers and then screwed by some bunch of morons (no offence to polite mature players who can write in coherent English, but most of modern MMO chats make me weep) who have no ideas about the plot, and care only for their own assumed greatness.
I really think that the genre itself is ill-suited for on-line gaming – If I want to play online – I play RTS.

Personal opinion off

Trust me, there's an entire forum in the Star Wars Knights section of Lucasforums devoted to K3, and another TOR forum on Lucasforums as well. There are hundreds of people who'd love to see a K3 instead of TOR, but this is the way it is. I can't imagine this far into production that Bioware would suddenly change their minds.

Those of you who are naysayers, give the MMO a chance, THEN decide if you like it or not. I used to not be an MMO player--I just wasn't interested. A friend introduced me to Guild Wars, and then another one introduced me to Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO). Both are a lot of fun. The story in LOTRO is better than Guild Wars, but then how can you beat Tolkein at fantasy? Neither are quite as good as Kotor story-wise, but there is so much to do in both games, and it can be done as a single player or in groups. Grouping together with your friends is great fun. If you want to have an MMO experience for free, try out a trial account of LOTRO, or hop on Dungeons and Dragons Online (which is a free MMO with optional microtransactions for gear and such). PM me if you're interested in LOTRO and I'll show you around in game and help you get started.

Imagine Kotor, but instead of your party members, you have your best friends playing with you to take down the baddies and complete quests. Doesn't that sound as fun to you as it does to me?

As like most here apparently, I'd totally take KoTOR 3 over TOR. While I'd prefer kotor 3 though, I'm sure as heck not going to turn down The Old Republic.

My question is why does it have to be one or the other, I say bring on both!

I agree.  They aren't going to change their minds at this point.  I resigned myself to THAT long ago, personally.

I may well give it a chance, but personally it's going to be very hard for me to do so as I am (sadly0 quite bitter that they decided to go in that direction.

And even if I enjoy it as an MMO, it won't be the same as a KotOR 3 and it DEFINITELY won't be the same as a KotOR 3,4,5,6,7+ as has been claimed before.

I think it's fairly safe to say that my answer is "No".  I have played with friends, my husband, and my daughter.  I love them all dearly, and I have had mixed experiences with them all.  I do not, however, tend to enjoy playing with them for long periods of time and they DO NOT stay in character in MMOs or otherwise facilitate me getting immersed in the story.

Thats exactly what I'm saying Posted Image I think, Jae Onassi, you may have misinterpreted my intentions in creating this thread and the poll (which needs lots more votes!!). I, for one - and I think most others would agree - am not saying that they should scrap TOR to make KOTOR 3 instead. BioWare wanted to make an MMO, thats entirely up to them - God knows what kind of crap we'd have if they let their fans dictate what they do. However, I would like them to realise that their fans ARE the ones that keep them in business and saying 'oh they dont want kotor 3' when we very clearly do insn't a very sensible path. While I trust BioWare completely (well, actually my trust has taken a bashing recently) to make good games, that doesn't mean that revisiting their older - and best loved, by all acounts - games wouldn't be good too. I mean, look at the poll I have - its been up, what, 2 days? 3? And already there are 60+ votes for KOTOR 3 and only 5 or 6 that would take TOR as its replacement.

 Anyway, mini-rant over Posted Image

(C.)     I will play S.W.:T.O.R. happily and if they change their minds and make a S.W.:K.O.T.O.R. III too? that would be awesome... but I am pretty sure I heard they are making the game role-playing heavy, and dynamic;  Which is how they plan on it being KOTOR 3-4-5-7-9...  They cartoony graphics are kinda meh to me but if it works? kewl.

I empathize with this but I would encourage you to visualize/manifest what you want.  I am confused why people are so hung up on BioWare 'choosing' one or another, when they clearly have the resources to work on multiple quality projects at once.  So how about we have S.W.:T.O.R. 'AND' S.W.:K.O.T.O.R. III?  What BioWare says today regarding this is kinda irrelevant to what they may say tomorrow.
