I apologize now, if there is already a post - only went back a handful of pages and didn't see a topic like this one.

I know there have been some critiqueing threads, but this is more of a "How the hell did I complete this one so fast?"

If felt like it took weeks to complete ME1 - maybe my excitement wouldn't let me put down the controller, but I'm sure I didn't "rush" through the game.  I gained every squadmate - did loyalty missions and did several "anomally detected" missions (not all mind you - did that later after completing the suicide mission) and I still feel sort of cheated.

Don't get me wrong, ME2 still gets high scores from me but I miss the large exploring areas like the original Citadel....

After waiting all this time for ME2 I guess I'm just a bit bummed.  I figured all that time was being dedicated to making all those deep missions and huge areas of exploration.

And am I the only one who prefers the elevator to the loading screens?  Seems like there was a real hate among people, but honestly I enjoyed looking at my femshep and characters over the loading screens.

Will ME3 be longer/better???  Thoughts????

Yes it is a little short if i wanted to i could beat the game within a day and do mostly everything the first game was longer. hopefully the promised content will be delivered and make the game longer. I can't say much about ME3 because I'm not on the dev team so how knows on that one.

I spent 40 hours on ME2 and I still left some stuff on the table (like some of the N7 missions).

It's not a short game - maybe not epic 60+ hours of gameplay like Dragon Age, but it's still not short.

Still, compared to many other current games it took me longer.

Hello,

My first playtrhough, without taking my time, lasted 30h23. My second playtrhough, doing everything and getting to level 30, lasted 36h24.

With the great diversity in gameplay (each class being very differrent) and the variety of game options (6 different romances, Zaeed choice ect), it adds a great replayability and makes every game unique.

And, let's not forget the game isn't finished yet. The upcomming Hammerhead free DLC will likely add 5 hours + gameplay.

Considering this, I would be happy to have Mass Effect 3 the same length but more content (weapons, dialogue, fish, ship areas & more detailed NPC's like Kelly or Gardener).

I think the lack of the Mako/Drivable vehicles made the game seem shorter. At least, it did for me. I miss the driving levels :-(

Well if you're asking did I feel shortchanged by the length of ME2, no I didn't. While it may have been a little shorter it felt like the characters in ME2 had a much greater depth to them and I probably spent more time talking to my team than I ever did in ME1.

Now thats not saying I want ME3 to be short and sweet, hell no!! I want an epic finish to this story that makes me stay up all night playing just to see what happens next.

I guess shortchanged and time spent isn't quite what I meant.....

I can remember spending hours reading the codex, and just plain exploring.

I immensly enjoyed the storyline and the depth of the new mates, just wanted larger expanses I guess.  Example Illos seemed so small - and I really miss running all over the Citadel.  *sigh*  Maybe its just nostalgia...

-Inserting disc for ME1....  B)

Completed mine last night. Did all the loyalty and majority of the side missions. Took me about 25-26 hours.

I've completed the game three times now. Total time played 59 hours. Did all the quests and explored on one playthrough and left out the rest. My biggest complaint about ME2 is that it is over *sniff*.

Difficulty changes a lot, but I rather have smooth combat with Shepard being the elite soldier that he/she is rather than nerd raging at some enemies, because they were made harder by just adding damage and health.

Riiight just because of your speed run that is the length of the game?

Funny how my first playthrough took 41 hours and I didn't even recruit Tali or Samara and I sent Legion back to Cerberus (so no Legion loyalty mission). I think I have done most if not all of the N7 and other sidequests on that run though. Not entirely sure if that is true though.

If people want to speed run through things fine, but for any of them to then come on here and say it was short...

It's relatively short, (my first playthrough is ~30 hours) but it has replay value.

6 classes with rather different gameplay, 2 alignment paths to follow, 2 genders.

Obviously, very few people will play ALL the possible combinations, but I also doubt that many people will only play the game through once.

It felt like the recruiting missions were a means to an end. But to me, it felt like Mass Effect 2 never reached that "end". Its like, we're all finally here, but 1 mission later the game is over.

Hmm...I'm at forty-five hours or so and I've still got the a few loyalty missions and the IFF mission...

So no, I don't feel it's any shorter than the last game. Actually, I think forty-five hours is about what I did on my first full play of ME, so this may be a little longer. Both games I tried to do absolutely everything I could my first time through...

33 hours I took, all loyalty missions completed and most planets explored before going through Omega 4. That was with my Paragon Infiltrator Shep and Talimance.

Just setting up for a 2nd playthough as an Adept Renegade Shep on a mission to bum Miranda!

I agree. I was very disappointed with the lack of sprawling areas. I had actually expected the places to be *more* expansive than the ME1 ones if anything. What really annoyed me was how you couldn't go to the Presidium, just to Andersen's office. And how Omega, supposedly a huge hub of crime and unsavory characters, had every available mission with a two minute walk from the Normandy. Iilum was pretty bad too. I had really been looking forward to going to a densely populated city in the ME universe. Instead I get stuck with a couple of kiosks and a bar. I presume all of this was done to shorten the time between combat, but it made me feel cheated. I liked it when combat was just supplementary, as opposed to actually being the prominent facet of the game.

-sigh- Hopefully ME3 will get the formula between RPG and shooter right. And give us the Mako back.

The fact that people wish it was longer says a lot about how good it was. We all want more of it. So kudos to Bioware for making another great game as always.

I've totaled nearly 80 hours on my 2 playthroughs. My first run through totaled over 50 hours (around 10-15 of those game time hours were spent idling as I had to eat dinner and deal with other RL issues). My 2nd playthrough was only 26.5 hours after doing every mission and assignment except Legion's quests (I gave Legion's body to Cerberus; thought it'd be a good idea to give something back to The Illusive Man before I decided to blow the Collector base up). I felt that ME2 had enough to keep me going from start to finish in each of my playthroughs. It wasn't too short and it wasn't too long (I remember chugging through Neverwinter Nights 2).

Yea IMO it was pretty short, because if you think about it 75% of the game was just gathering party members an doing loyalty quests(which took up most of that 75%).

The rest of the game was the jump into the relay and that consisted of one mission...albeit a longer one.

All in all it could have used a few more missions, maybe have made the Citadel completed in repairs etc. The game just felt too confined for my tastes.

Befudlement: Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 each only lasts about 7 hours on the hardest difficulty (my time 6h48m32s veteran MW2) so I am a bit at odds when people complain about a game lasting 20 hours if they rush it yet turn face and embrace a 7 or 8 hour game lovingly...

Yes, but the Call of Duty isn't all about singleplayer. It has multiplayer aswell, so that pretty much covers for it.
