I spent 31 hours on ME2 to beat it and I haven't even done barely any of the Side Missions. ME1 felt like it was over in 15 hours, so I disagree with you.

Dragon Age took about 50 hours...but that makes sense given it is technically inferior and was likely less resource consuming to make.

My first ME1 playthrough was 26 hrs, my first ME2 playthrough was 46 hrs...

so I can't really agree with you. I do think it FELT short, simply because by the time I got my crew the game was over, but I guess that IS the story, getting your crew. I would have loved for the actual story to only start after you get everyone, but I guess that's what the next game is for...

I actually think ME1 is shorter. It had fewer missions. They were longer then most in ME2, but ME2 had over 22.

You could "Speed" run thru ME1 in about 8-9 hours and thats only with difficulty on casual, and skipping every conversation. Actually I am running ME1 again because my only male play through on me1 was a renegade and I want all the decisions I make to be paragon with one male Shep.

With ME2 I imagine doing the bare minimum you can beat it in 7-9 hours, again difficulty on casual. and you will most likely die at the end of the game, which I still plan on doing.

the game is far from short my first playthrough i clocked 32 hours on normal with all squad mates, loyalty missions and most the assignments completed.on my second playthrough on hardcore i clocked it in 34 hours with all the game completely finshed 100% now i dont rush i take my time when playing single player games to get the most enjoyment i can. the first mass effect was too short it is one of the shortest games ive ever played. i dont want all the fans to start bashing me but im a big fan of mass effect and the first one was way shorter my first go on the first one i did it in 20 hours with most the side missions completed as well. mass effect 2 compared to other recent games is the longest one just compare the length to uncharted 2 for example. with mass effect 1 alot of my fellow LIVE buddies who arnt exactly big fans of the two games have all said the first one was too short the main game was short and the side missions wernt worth doing as do most people who played the first one. from a fans perspective though i do and dont agree with them.

Any single player game where you get more then 25 hours from on first playthrough is not a short game. i suggest anyone who wants to see what a short game is that you dont have to rush(speedrun) through go play uncharted 2 or resident evil 5 from last year.

Took me 30h, but under a week... It was long enough imo, but it was just too good to stop until it was over so it felt short.

It took me about 30 hours to beat, so yeah I though it was short.

Then again when I really love a game I always think its short...

The game IS shorter... or shall we say more "strealined" but its more to do with the condensed exploration and the way missions end, in that they fade to black now and you don’t have to make your own way back to airlocks etc. Main locations like the citadel and Illium seem smaller too and less happening in them there is less of locations like Noveria and Feros, the quests are all streamlined into the plot and its characters too so there’s less quests available as a sideline from the story, this makes the world feel smaller AND constantly bumping into people from the first game all the time makes the universe feel even smaller!
Yes the Mako is gone, it was slightly annoying however I MUCH preferred it to the hours and hours of laborious scanning of planets, this for me is a the real let down of the game, I completed it in 3 sittings initially doing EVERYTHING, however my subsequent playthroughs have been boring as there is almost too much time spent scanning planets and not much too do aside from the admittedly explosive main quest.

The fact that people wish it was longer says a lot about how good it was. We all want more of it. So kudos to Bioware for making another great game as always.

True....guess I'm just impatient.  :)

i think mass effect 2 is just the right length. except for one small part.

the final mission is waaaaaay too short. and easy,

you spend 20 - 30 somewhat hours gathering all your team members, then gaining their loyalty and then comes the big finaly. and.... its over in 30-45 minutes. the buildup is great but the end is a bit anti climactic in scope. and if you managed to level your character to 30 and have one of the advanced weapons. its just too easy. my last playthrough (first one on insanity) had me die not once during the final mission.

botom line final mission to short and easy. overall length of the game AWESOME :)

Hi I think to it was very short I mean I was waiting for this game for a long time I didn't know what to play during xmas. and when I finally got my hand on this I played through 3 days and actually I was missing side quests but I played al the character's missions and still it was too short and i think it was too straight I mean the storyline.

This is where I compare it to ME1...the last mission there wasn't long, or difficult. Saren wasn't a tough boss. I still loved it. I would have liked a "platoon" of enemies landing on the Normandy while Joker's evading them...killing a bunch of thugs on the way to the Occulus instead of BOOM, there's the miniboss. But the last mission was fun, racing through to hit all the heat switches, shooting stuff through the barrier, the flying platforms.

Still took me 64 hours, and 79 hours to beat DAO, so I'm a time-waster and/or completionist, but Bioware makes the best games for replay value...I don't have many games with that value. Everyones playthroughs get shorter and shorter, but it's still gunna take up 200+ hours over my lifetime, so I'm happy.

Truth be told, we shouldn't have gotten into the hype. We all know it would have been more epic finding out that "Jack" was a girl, and Archangel was Garrus. I curse myself for spoiling the surprises.

It took a lot longer than Mass Effect. I actually prefer to have multiple (Illium, Tsuchanka, Omega) areas to explore versus just one area like the Citadel, but I do wish they were larger and had more meaningful sidequests. (the citadel quests are a joke...they take 2 minutes to complete)

-Also, one of the things that kills it for me is that you cant go back to explorable worlds or mission environments.

I don't think long games would benefit this series. If each game was like 90 hours, there's no way so many would go through time and time again trying different classes and stuff like that. It would just take way too long. The way it's shaping up, we'll probably be able to play through the trilogy in 100 or so hours.

I think it only came across as short because the game was so engrossing, then once it was over the realization set in that we're going to have to wait 2 years until ME3 comes out ..............dammit, I wish they were developing them side-by-side .....or at least were about half way through with ME3's completion so they could release it next year around the same time.

I have more hours invested in my first save of Mass Effect 2 than any of my Mass Effect saves... but it did feel much shorter, if that makes sense.

I think it feels so short because the main storyline, meaning not the recruitment, seems to be barely there. Most of your time is spent finding people and gaining their loyalty.

That said, it's still longer than a lot of games out there right now.

the game isn't short the main story line is short, it's like eating an unsatisfying meal, you might be full but you still kind of feel the need to eat something more hearty

It felt short but it was 5 hours longer than my first playthrough of Mass Effect. Though it was 4 hours shorter than my 2nd playthrough of Mass Effect.

It's not short. It's longer than ME1 in how long it takes to complete. I think a lot of you are just being nostalgic for ME1 and/or you were so excited for ME2 you were hoping for a game longer than ME2 ends up being.

Luckily I didn't know about Archangel. So when he takes off the helmet, I was like, "Yes! Garrus!"

One of my favorite parts of the game.

It's about the same as ME1, actually. The recruitment missions may be shorter than the ME1 missions, but there are more of them, and I count loyalty missions as main story quests anyway, so it all equals out.

The Mako made the first game seem longer. Without it, it would probably be shorter than this game.
