Just forget about it. Don't waste your time trying to get it working, it won't work.

One question: are you running under the administrator account? If not, that's one of the ways you'll get that error message.

Here's a wiki section you might look at to try to solve your problem instead of giving up as others would have you do: http://social.biowar...to_the_database.

There must be a way to get it working... :/

Wiki dragonage thingy wrote:
Is the Toolset correctly pointing to database?Run Configure Toolset to send the toolset in the right direction and test the database connection.Notes:It has been observed that for some builds that the Toolset is not looking at the correct registry keys perhaps due to permission restrictions.First use the ConfigureToolset to set the correct string. If you don't use the default settings you can copy the string from from the ConfigureToolset tool otherwise use one of the following command line queries to get the connection string.

Win32: reg query "HKLM\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Toolset\\\\Environment" /v DefaultDatabaseConnection
Win64: reg query "HKLM\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\Wow6432Node\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Toolset\\\\Environment" /v DefaultDatabaseConnection
Now run the following command line (substituting your connection string for the final value)

reg add "HKCU\\\\Software\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Toolset\\\\Environment" /v DefaultDatabaseConnection /t REG_SZ /d "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\\\\BWDATOOLSET"

Double check your entry, a single incorrect character will cause the same "Unable to Connect" error.↑ Return to top

My games is in this string C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\dragon age origins\\\\tools
how shall i put it in the thingy up there ?

If it works first time, like it does for most people, then you don't need to have any computer skills at all. Other than the ability to double click on an installer then click "next" a few times. :P

If it doesn't work, then nearly all install problems give the "could not connect to database" error. As it could be one of about 20 reasons causing the error, the time it takes to solve it depends on whether it was the first thing you tried that was the problem or the 20th.

Having said that, it is very difficult to help people when they do not post much information when seeking help. At a bare minimum, we need the OS version (and if it's 64 bit or 32 bit), toolset version, game version, database location, whether the game is retail or D2D or steam etc to even attempt to troubleshoot it.

The problem, in my experience at least, is that it should work just fine the first time.  If it doesn't work fine the first time, it's most likely because of something stupid that the user has done to their PC prior to trying to install the toolset.

I have friends call me up to help fix their "broken" computer.  I get over there to find it filled with crap like BearShare, Weatherbug, and pretty much every random thing that may auto-install itself if you just blindly click on everything that pops up.  They do all of this, then wonder why they can't get The Sims XXVIXII to install.

My computer is brand new, and i dont use P2P sharing programs (ect because i dont support pirat stuff) and software like this, and no i dont push popups, so insted of insulting me, you should go to some other topic!.
Not all is as stupid as your friend...

I have the toolset running on windows 7 home 64bit, it wasn't just pressing next. that i can say.

after installation i needed to do following:

1) Add SQL BWDATOOLSET to the admin list on SQL Server Surface configuration. (described in the wiki)

2) restore the database manually through a custom Restore bat file (available on the wiki)

3) run the toolset as admin

but I didn't buy it through steam so it might have more issues.

hey hi fives, sorry guys, im kind of an idiot when it comes to computers. The whole wiki kinda confused me, but at the point where it says: "is the toolset correctly pointing to database?" with the configure toolset and the correct strings, they completely lost me... I know, its surprising, especially since i'm a fourteen year old boy and the stereotype nowadays is that we all know everything there is to technology (right?).

Oh, and im using windows 7 home premium 32bit... whatever that means. PLEASE HELP :s

in your Dragon age toolset folder there is a program called ConfigureToolset run it and make sure the settings is pointing to the database folder.

if you have the game installed at the default location the program is located at C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools

the database should be at C:\\Program Files\\DAODB

Apart from the fact that I'm running 32-bit Windows 7, I'm having the exact same problem. The registry key entry is right, the database files are there, the SQL process is running, but the toolset doesn't want to know.

Seriously, the dependance on such a horribly flaky SQL platform needs to be removed from the toolset ASAP. I don't think it's a coincidence that getting the thing to work properly is as awkward as it is and there are so few decent mods out.
